Hey Jude, Anyone I've ever spoken with who said it was easy either didn't have much weight to lose or went about it in a completely unsustainable way (i.e., barely eating). Undoing a decades long bad relationship with food is hard. Learning a whole new way to be... is hard. I'm so glad you didn't give up on yourself! You've got this, my friend! 🥰❤️

I’m also confined to bedrest because I’ve had so many spine surgeries, and so much pain. So it’s kind of like a double whammy.the fact that I’ve lost 33 pounds so far is miraculous. Congratulations Mindy! That is awesome. I have yet to see it myself but I would have smiled and said "OMG I know her"! I love Oprah, I have gone to some of her events and I believe she is a good hearted person. I got to meet her in DC and she gives out only light and good feelings when you are in her presence. I lost 80 pds and did the skin surgery and have been maintaining since November. MJ has changed my life. As a nurse I did the research also and I am one of those that the weight just fell off. I think it is the type two I have had all my life. It corrects my bodies problem. So happy they reached out to you. You were part of my success also. You encouraged me and I Thank you for that. :) And a reminder, what you have experienced on this journey does not mean it happens or others and that is how it is. Everyone is different on this journey, it is not black and white cause it happened to you. We are all different on how it affects us.

Supply issues are a problem. I take Monjaro for diabetes and for the second time I’m out here trying to find my medicine myself as my pharmacy doesn’t know when they will get more. It’s so frustrating!!
I absolutely hate to hear things like that. It makes me so upset that they continue to launch in new markets... they shouldn't be adding anything new until they can provide consistent supply to existing patients. 😒
me to I have literally called 30+ pharmacies here in Ky trying to find 12.5 or 15 and no luck. I was supposed to pick up script on Tue. fortunately I have 3 pens left. so frustrating.
I agree with all of your sentiments about the Oprah special. One additional thing that stood out to me was that glp1 medications have been around for a decade being used for weight loss, and even OPRAH had never heard of them. "Where was my announcement!?" I had the same question. Why has it been such a secret for so long?
It's actually been almost 19 years since the first GLP1 was approved by the FDA. It wasn't until 2014 that they finally got the FDA to approve them for the treatment of obesity. It's crazy how long they've been around. It makes me giggle when people start talking about how we don't know the long-term ramifications of taking these meds... I think after almost 20 years, we would have seen the third legs and eyeballs. 🤣❤️

This is fantastic. I did not watch it **yet** but plan on doing so! I was on vacation in Cancun with my daughter (who paid for the trip) and I had to ask myself “Who AM I?” On the beach in a swimsuit, snorkeling in the Caribbean Sea, sitting out in the sun…this was not me a year and a half ago. ❤
Mindy, I love your channel and appreciate you sharing your journey and honest opinions about everything, including your thoughts of the Oprah special and her after the show episode. I also watched both and was worried that they glossed over the shortages and having this otherwise great special on BEFORE the shortage issues are taken care of because this encourages more people to want them and will make the shortages worse. I am on my 11th week on Mounjaro and have type 2 diabetes. I have already seen both my a1c and cholesterol go down significantly in this short time! I am following a healthy lifestyle of 1200 to 1700 calories a day, getting some exercise, drinking 100 onces of water and trying to get from 60 to 100 grams of protein and at least 25 grams or more of fiber every day while eating a balanced diet. I am down 16 pounds so far and feeling good! I like to go live on my Anchor Moments RU-vid channel on Mondays when I take my shots. I am going to give you and your channel a big shout out this Monday! I hope some of my viewers will also watch your videos! You are awesome! I haven't watched the special, happy that you were apart of it, I'd rather watch you and because to be honest- we can't get our meds #T2D and they can say Oprah wants it and poof she has it so deliberate in my opinion the nonchalant attitude towards those that can't get their meds I've been without 1month 10 mg of MJ I've requested to be changed to another one, my PMD is not hearing it right now if she doesn't I will move on! Hi. I saw you!! Wow! The one thing I wasn’t happy with from that special was the pharmaceutical reps never did address why other countries pay so much less than the US for Ozempic and other brand names??? I looked up the pricing chart and the country below us is Japan paying less than $200 per month for the same meds. If they can produce and supply it for that much then why are they price gouging us? Makes you wonder. ❤❤
That's been an issue for decades for more than just these meds. That would have been a good question to ask, but it would have been way too inflammatory... they needed their cooperation for the special. I wouldn't be surprised if she turns it into some kind of series... but who knows.

I watched the Oprah special and wished they had not included the part where the teenager was using it. They didn't have enough time to cover the important topics and having a child use it is not a necessary discussion. I wish they had used that time to discuss how they are resolving the supply issue. I never could get my hands on Wegovy and so started zepbound as soon as it was released. Now it is nearly impossible to get zepbound and I am definitely not able to take the dose that my doctor agrees I should take. The dose I use should be a decision between myself and my doctor, not due to supply issues.
Hey Janet, I actually appreciated that they addressed having a minor on the meds, especially since it was a medicine other than Wegovy or Zepbound. The other really important part about her story was the failed weight loss surgery. There's no way they were going to address the supply issues because it's such a sore subject. I'm so sorry you can't get the proper dose. 😔
I am on Mounjaro and have had issues getting higher doses of the medicine. I feel like this special is just going to make it even harder to get these medications for those of us who have been on it for quite sometime. I of course want everyone to be healthy, but it’s been frustrating seeing myself and friends struggle to get the doses we need.
The strange part is that they claim the higher doses aren't in a shortage. (At least as of late last week) The most annoying part about the whole thing is them launching to new markets... stop making it available to whole new countries if you can't even get it to the patients who are already reliant on it!!

I agree 100%. I haven't seen the special but the "Oprah effect" is a real thing. The special is only making the shortage worse so I personally feel now was not the time for it. Why advertise glp1s right now, or hell, why have OPRAH do this special when the shortage is a real and profound thing right now and her reach is tremendous. Timing was soooo bad. Thanks to Oprah it's only going to get worse now so I don't support this special, or at least, I don't support doing it now.
Wow, haven't watched the Oprah special yet but I certainly will now. Next time you're challenged emotionally just remember how many overweight people you gave hope to. We don't always know when we are influencing another person. In fact, I think most of the time we don't bc the interaction is not immediate. It takes some time for the heart to process. Thanks for pointing out the "negative marketing stratagies" in the show. Hey, did you hear the FDA approved Wegovy for heart disease? Seems the pt will need to have a heart cath and prove their low ejection fraction (loss of contractility). I deal with my sweet cravings by planning for them. Every week, I have some sort of lower calorie higher protein dessert worked into my meal plan. I know that if I try to just avoid it I will eventually binge on them. ❤️
I live in Australia and I’m obese (86.6kg, 163cm) and I can’t access wegovy or ozempic they put a ban on doctors giving it out as weight loss treatment it’s only for diabetes. But they had on the news the other day that there is 70 other companies making similar stuff and pill forms so hopefully that doesn’t take to long or isn’t expensive. Like you and many others I’ve tried assorts of diets and just can’t seem to find something that works and that I can stick to. Your costume looks great, looks like a lot of fun.
Hey Kayla, Wegovy is FDA approved specifically for the treatment of obesity (and recently heart disease). Ozempic is for the treatment of Diabetes. I'm confused as to why they would ban an obesity drug for the treatment of obesity. That blows my mind. I'm so sorry to hear that.
I don’t think we have wegovy available in Aus. Yeah it’s weird here even Duromine (phentermine) the main weight loss pill they tell you to take is not on the pbs so you have to pay full price for it, you think they would so more people could afford it.
Wow! Congratulations 🎉 I am just starting 5mg this week after 5 weeks on 2.5. I keep trying to eat as little as possible and freak out if I go over 1200. That results in me restricting to under 500 the next day. Is it possible to eat to few calories or how do you decide how many calories to eat?
I definitely wouldn't restrict that low. Your body still has caloric needs that are MUCH higher than that, especially as an obese person (I'm assuming obesity only because it's the reason most people are taking these meds). Take a look at my Meal Planning video, where I talk about how I approach meal planning. If that's too overwhelming for you, at least use a TDEE calculator to get a baseline calorie count for your body and energy expenditures. Unless you are completely sedentary and less than 150 lbs 1200 calories a day is likely not enough for you. Metabolic adaptation is a thing, and not consuming enough will shoot you in the foot long term. ❤️🥰

Hey Alexis, I talked about that in a recent video. Last year was very challenging. Mounjaro did not work very well for me, and my weight went up and down quite a bit over the course of the year last year. The big win was maintaining my 100lb weight loss for a year. Since getting back on Wegovy, my weight loss has been much more steady. I've also added strength training, which means I've increased my muscle mass, so even though I haven't lost as much weight, I've gone down 2 sizes in the last several months. The number on the scale isn't everything.

Hey Mindy, congratulations!! I was wondering how you afford your Wegovy. Does your insurance cover it? Mine (united Healthcare) does not cover it and i have to go through an appeals process. 😒
@mindypweightloss you did an appeal process? I'm just nervous the insurance will still turn me down because other than a high BMI my weight isn't necessarily affecting my health. I have good labs last time I had a blood draw and my blood pressure is just fine. I guess I can go over all the other failed weight loss routes I've been on. IDK I did hear from another youtuber that I can see if my Dr will send my prescription to Canada because it's only like $300 there and they ship it on dry ice. 🤷♀️
@lisamahan2097 PA= Prior Authorization... I'm not sure if that's what you mean by appeal. Mine was approved the first time around so I didn't need to appeal the decision.
@mindypweightloss I called my insurance and they said they do not cover any weight loss medication. I don't know how a PA would help (don't really understand any of this) but they said my Dr would have to write up an appeal stating why I need the medication
@lisamahan2097 if your insurance flat out doesn't cover weight loss meds then I'm not sure how that process works. My plan covers them but only with a Prior Authorization... meaning not everyone will be approved for them... there has to be a medical need.
How is Oprah making money off of this? I have respect for you and appreciate your candor, but I question her motives. She is in television to make money.
Of course, she's making money off the special, but that doesn't mean it also isn't something she feels passionately about. I'm not the biggest Oprah fan, but I definitely empathize with her weight struggles.
I suppose the argument could be made for that... I'm just glad the conversation is being had about not placing blame and shaming people for being obese when they haven't had the right tools to address the core issue. Ultimately, it's up to the drug companies to address the shortage issue... I don't think the answer is to keep people who need help in the dark. 🤷♀️
She did, but she also added a ton of pressure to the situation which will hopefully propel efforts at increasing supply, coverage, and new varieties of the meds getting to market.
