@VegasD702 Their financial status doesn't have anything to do with anything. Its about a dad's love for his family. Theres tons of wealthy husbands and dads that dont spend much time with their families, let alone take the time to record these awesome memories to be able to go back and watch years after.

Wow! The memory of this gm that started the whole fad and trend of xmen N SF.. I was a little bit younger than you and didn't have a Saturn but had a ps1 in 1998 so the game I first was able to own was xmen vs sf exactly in the same my dad bought it for me and I RMB exactly how I felt. The high of emotions the warmth and giggly happiness I had for owning this gm I instantly became a celeb at school for having it and everyone couldn't stop talking and smiling about this gm ... your dad is SUPER SPECIAL TYLER it is utterly amazingly wonderful how he captured these moments through his video tape recorded I cried a lot of joy watching this clip because it just shows how Amazing your mom and dad are to do all they did to get this game so that you can be so happy

UPDATE 5/28/24: RU-vid has re-enabled comments! In April of 1996, Mom and Dad completely SHOCKED me with X-Men: Children of the Atom on Sega Saturn - A final surprise gift on my 10th birthday. Hope you enjoy this one guys!
@PhucDNguyen827
@PhucDNguyen827 4 месяца назад
Hi MyRetroLife during that time 1996, I was a fan of X-men as well. I always went to the arcade and play the Children of the Atom. I was shocked when i saw it at the Arcades during that time. now it has been 28 years now which it is a very very very very long time which gives memories as a child now that I'am 41 years old and didn't have any recorded memories on VHS tapes like your dad did. But after 1996, I was also strucked and hit hard my entire life when X-men vs Streetfighter came out in the arcade the next following year. There was Hundreds of people playing that at the arcade non stop. Now i have it on my sega saturn from japan sadely the sega saturn died and Xmen vs Street fighter never made it to north America which is a very disappointment for the Sega Saturn. The US didnot give Sega Saturn the chance to survive because it had so much japan coming out right when Xmen vs Streetfighter was around the corner. Now I have several copies of X-men vs Street fighter "only" from Japan a stand alone copy with the spine card and registration card in mint condition and Box version from japan with the 4 meg version and more copies Im just a fan of how much nice incredible Animation and sprites it has almost identicle to the arcade. Im so happy that im still playing it right now. I also own X-men children of the Atom both American Version and the Japan Version. it such a nice game because of the art work and animation looks so nice in the game. Than after this, several years later Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the Dreamcast also struck me again but man these games were fantastic in the late 90s but i stop from here. Thanks for sharing your videos, it bring back memories exept that i don't memories recorded on VHS by my parents at the time :((((((( sadly

You only got 007 the Golden Eye, the very first person shooter game? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My brothers and I, we've got KI GOLD and MK Trilogy. The hottest fighting game in N64 in '96 at the time, infinite combo from Noob Siabot, Rain, and Sub-Zero. KI was one of my favorite fighting games of the mid-90s in the SNES console. My newest friends at the time had bought the Mario 64 system console later that year in '97. Mario 64 is truly the best 1-person 3D adventure game I ever came across, better than all the Super Mario I've played in NES and SNES. I didn't play 007 Golden Eye and Doom 64 until the late 2000s when the PS2 console took over the gaming market, which I wasn't interested in Sony. The loading lag of those games in PS2 was terrible by the gaming developer company. 😪😴 Even til to this modern day, PS games are still lagging due to the rollback netcode, desync controllers...etc. Never count Nintendo out.🤣

I live through these times. Back then the arcade was the place to see the biggest breakthrough in video games especially in the graphics and sound department. The only console that was powerful enough to bring the whole arcade experience home was the NEO GEO and Sharp X68000 which cost an arm and a leg. I remember seeing X-Men COTA for the first time at an airport arcade. I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing. It's like I was controlling the saturday morning cartoon. Skip to about a year later my friend told me he bought X-Men COTA for the Saturn. After the game booted my mind was blown 🤯 . It's 100% like the arcade (yeah I know it's not) to a non trained eye. I remember thinking how lucky my friend was that he has an "arcade machine" in his bedroom that he can play everyday and doesn't have to spend quarters. Thank you this video for bringing up great memories ❤

It’s a shame that the Saturn had what SHOULD have been the best home port of Mortal Kombat II. Visually it was arcade-PERFECT, but it suffered big time from constant load times, in-game load lag, missing / glitchy sound samples, and a few other issues. Ultimate MK3 on Saturn turned out being MUCH better, and even closer to the arcade version than MK2 was.

My idiot friend ruined my TV the previous year late in 95’ that November so I wasn’t gonna be gaming at all in 96’. Got immersed in death and black metal in 96’ and so when I got my PS1 in late 96’ I had a lesser interest in gaming. It would take many years to rediscover my love of gaming.

I miss that feeling of excitement when you would just happen to discover something new in person like that, like you tripping upon the Xmen game after a movie. Just to be like "WHAT? This exists!?" I had a similar thing with the original Super Smash Bros. I had no idea that game was even a thing. And some random weekend my parents went out shopping and came home with it, and also randomly brought over two of my friends that they saw outside in the neighborhood to come play this new game with me. We played Smash Bros until our eyes bled that night.

RU-vid is so dumb. They need ro fix their child protection software! That being said, I used to love this game. I wish I never got rid of my Saturn. It's way too expensive to collect for now.

Never got the arcade version either on the Saturn or especially the PS1 version the only way to play the arcade version was either buy the arcade machine or keep on going to the arcade Saturn was the closest

This reminded me a lot of the excitement I always felt when a new big fighting game would come out. There definitely was not a shortage of good fighting games back then.

You always do such a great job by editing these videos. BUT, I must say that for me, the best part of this video is how you appreciated and were grateful for gifts as a kid. This can make You and Your parents proud. Great video and great memories.

When i sày 1996 was a amazing year for Capcom for its games. And only a few months later you get the start of one of the greatest VS crossovers in history. I was 6 in 1996 as well (bday in March), my uncle had rented this from blockbuster. We would watch Xmen on Fox Kids and after would be hype to play the game. I miss my childhood so much 🙏.....

Great trip back memory lane! I think at the height of the popularity of the game, there would be several machines playing the same game at the video arcade. The sensory overload was awesome with all the sound coming from all the machines as they were being played 😊

I'm glad I ran across your channel with this video first. The excitement and enthusiasm your dad captured is priceless. You guys had a LOT of cool stuff, but it sure feels like your folks understood it only mattered if it was a part of the love you guys had for each other. Super RAD. Yep, I said rad. 🙂

This video rules! Capcom was cooking with every following release too. I was absolutely floored when I first saw a Tips & Tricks magazine that my dad brought home and saw X-Men vs Street Fighter and that iconic image of Cyclops and Ryu shaking hands. It's weird becoming the old guys but there are very few moments now with actual new IPs that just have that same impact these days. I'd imagine Smash Bros Ultimate definitely would have been mind melting and borderline incomprehensible if it showed up in the 90s lol.
