I went for a teaching job interview last week at a school I am currently teaching my PGCE at. Unfortunately, I didn't get the job and now I am pretty gutted. In this video I talk about my experience of the interview and not making it through to the final panel interview after teaching me lesson.

You definitely are not alone ! Even as adults we find ourselves changing careers or studying again for a new career while holding down jobs etc but you you young people call that a midlife crisis that we’re having 😂 you are young you still have time x

I feel that too... times a hundred! I am not 24, I am about to turn 35, so probably too old to be starting a new career. I just got probably my 50th rejection in the last few years for all of my teaching, teaching assistant and teaching aide applications. I am starting to feel really broken, useless and ashamed of myself. I started out very positive and hopeful applying, and now I feel to bitter and hopeless to even try anymore.

I don't believe you are ever 'too old' to start a career 😊 I'm so sorry you feel broken from rejections. I'm not sure if it will make you feel better, but so many of my teaching cohort haven't gotten jobs. I think the current job climate across the world is pretty awful 😕 It really is affecting everyone 😪 Please don't loose hope 🤗 You will find the best job for you, I truly believe that 🥰

Rejection is redirection! Are you still planning to go into teaching? There are lots of spiteful teachers out there. Remember this - the biggest threat to any teacher who has stayed in the job for years, is a teacher who comes in and is growing. Very true. I have learned that there is a deep rooted culture in teaching that it must be hard and you must be working ALL the time otherwise you aren't doing it right. So new teachers are given a hard time, because those who trained before us got a bollocking from their school. Forget them, they don't deserve you!

I love that! Rejection is redirection 😍 I'm not sure about going into teaching anymore. The culture about all work and no play feels like a full-on lifestyle which leaves me with no life! I'm not sure how it is possible to keep on top of absolutely everything including interventions for all of your 30 pupil classes. I think there is some cracks in the education system unfortunately. It isn't working efficiently enough for teachers or pupils... I would love a role that helped children and young adults and somewhere I could really make a big impact. I'm not sure if traditional classroom teaching is 'that' 😔

Indeed, I am in the same position as you, in the fact that I've finished my teaching degree. Lots of issues with student teaching - bullying, demands for really detailed lesson plans that have to be provided DAYS in advance (even though full time teachers don't do this??).... Not to mention teachers who don't share resources or provide constructive advice. This really needs to change, especially since student teachers don't get paid. Student teaching needs reformed - there are lots of problems! And these problems stay with student teachers when they get to QTS. We are not respected. We should be treated as guests in the school - instead, we are treated as inferiors, not as members of the faculty or team. Lots of student teachers are exploited for taking lots of periods off staff doing full time contracts. Most of them sit at the back of the room and just sit and watch, rather than team teaching or being a 'guide on the side'. Lots of them LOVE putting you down and feel power when you are unsure about something and they can take over and 'show you how it's done'. We are also exploited for our resources and materials. This needs to change. I'm about to get a teaching job. But it's going to be hard. It's not easy. But at the end of the day, I think you will be respected more
