I’ve had a similar experience at the grocery store and the same exact reaction. I was wearing a long skirt and a turtle neck. I was slightly bent over getting produce. A man pretended to bump into me and put his fingers forcefully into my lady parts from behind. It was painful because of the fabric. I froze, he apologized and literally ran away. I was so shocked by what happened and left my cart right were it was and left. Since then I’ve been super paranoid going out in public. Doesn’t matter what we wear it doesn’t stop vile men from assaulting us

I have literally just experienced this in Taiwan. Someone touched my breast and although I am from South Africa I have never been violated until I came to Taiwan and shared my story thinking it will help me heal but I am still having trauma from the experience but I am glad you shared your story. It makes me feel that there’s nothing wrong with the way I felt and still feel to this day. I also learned a very important lesson from this… no matter where you are you can be violated. There are perverts everywhere in the world so don’t let your guard down.

You did nothing to deserve that experience, and don't be hard on thyself for what transpired and the lack of reaction you'd have liked to express in that moment. Well, I understand you girl I am also a girl from South African. My story is: I was living in Scotland in 2013 and one day I was traveling to Glasgow from Perth on a train. Then I noticed a guy sitting across just staring at me, I felt so uncomfortable then, after some minutes we reached final strain station in Glasgow. Well, I was like oh thank God I am out of the train, now lot of people were coming out to cross the road, since the traffic light were red then we waited with like lot of people coming out of the train. Me standing there not knowing this strange guy was behind me. When the light went green,he then grabbed me and just pulled me, hugging forcefully. I screened and cried loud and guess what people didn't even care only a young lady from Jamaica, shouted let her go! ( Will never forget that beautiful lady)Then he let me go,I was shaking and shocked. Well, people who know Scotland is cold,so I was dressed fully long coat with boats like covered for a snowy day. I’m sorry to hear your story. Thanks for sharing. It reminded me of an incident I once had in a subway station in Seoul in 2017, on a week day around 11am and I just pretended it didn’t happen and moved on. I was standing on an escalator, just one person in front of me and one behind me. The guy behind me grabbed my shoulders from behind and shoved me down with great force, I was so close to falling on an old women in front of me but I grabbed a hold of the hand rail and held on tightly to steady myself. She never turned around to see what was going on one step behind her. I just stared back at him as soon as I got off the escalator, he smiled and walked on as if he didn’t just attack me. I just sat down on a bench in shock at what just happened. Then I moved on because when I tell someone they remind me that I am a SAcan and ‘have it worse back home, so I have nothing to complain about’. How about stop excusing mens abusive behaviour . I still live in Korea, it’s important to inform each other to beware because yes reporting this sort of thing usually doesn’t do anything especially as a foreigner.

I bent down to grab a box of granola bars and as I get up hes quickly got up from under my skirt. He took a video of under my skirt. i went straight to a manager and they called the store police on the intercom. Once he heard that he ran. The city police came and was able to verify that he took a video of me when they checked cameras. He used the covid situation to hide himself. He had on a mask and sunglasses. The next day I got on the train and a guy sitting behind me touched my thighs. I was so angry man. This is one of the reasons I was kind of happy I put on 60 pounds. Like just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I owe you a smile or my attention. I owe you politeness and that's all. Like if someone holds a door I will thank him, but telling me to smile? The worst part is I was in a grocery store (S.A) standing in a queue and I felt a weird sensation in my bum, I turned around and a guy behind me was... I don't know, but his penis was intentionally in bum, no sign of shock when I looked at him, nothing. I did n't know whether to scream or.. I was beyond shocked and "frozen" like you said. I ended up politely asking what he was doing. He just left me there. I stood there shocked trying to deny what happend. That "assault" word just seals it. I should have just screamed. It's more than 10 years now, I still hate how I reacted. Had I known before that these things happen in public places I would have reacted appropriately.

These things happen all over the world, but I hear it mostly from Korea and Japan that these things happen. But, something similar has happened to me in my home country, Austria, as well. And if you ask women, nearly all of them have been harassed at least once, most of them more than once. It's sickening how men nowadays think about women and think that they can do everything. Problem here, they can do everything, nothing happens. My ex for example, he was/is abusive, police came (but this is a story based in Finland now), they asked him if something has happened, he said no, and they left again. Also, I am living in Finland and have children from this person, he can still decide over my and the childrens life, by law. I can't move anywhere, without his permission, in- or outside Finland. I can, if I do not take my kids with me, but then they would be basically on the street. So men still have a lot of power over women and it is really time to change this and stand up, as many women are already doing. I just don't know what else can or needs to be done to hear us women. Edit: To the last part of this video, it resonance a lot with what you saying. Finland is ranked 2nd in domestic violence, and unfortunately I see and hear it so many times. And same, people tell me, yes it is normal here. No, abuse is not normal, that's also why I say: This needs to stop, we have to stand up, what we already do, as female community I mean. But what more can there be done I wonder?

I read that so often that women just freeze when harrassed sexually in public. Too good manners? You can slap such a guy. Instantly. I also had such a harrassing in the subway. I just pushed him away and I could hold myself but he didn't stop it. I asked people to help me, but nobody helped. They just looked at me as if I just came from Mars. And it didn't end until I bate him off the waggon, when there was a station and the door opened. Then I turned towards the other passengers telling them: "I wish that you are the one to experience this next time. And then with knive-stabbing." I was more angry at them than at the guy actually. Of course nobody reacted, but I had it said and felt relieved. And I also know those excusations, people try to drag by to give you some of the blame, be it the very open t-shirt, your behavior or whatever, while you know, that this didn't matter at all.

The way in they treat foreigners so differently in different countries. As you said, it is super normal in Korea for women to wear short skirts and shorts, especially during the summer. You were dressing as everyone else was, you were doing nothing wrong by feeling hurt and extremely uncomfortable with what happened. I also hear about the problem of men taking pictures of and assaulting women in Korea, it must've been so scary, I can't imagine going through that. I can't believe anyone would tell you that because you are in a different country that is generally safer than your home country, you should accept violence there too just because it isn't as frequent or common. You shouldn't accept any kind of violence anywhere. I shouldn't be okay with getting shot in another country just because in the U.S. gun violence is worse than in some other countries. That doesn't make sense. I'm so sorry that happened to you. Your video is very well made, I hope others who have been through this can find validation in this video and comment section, especially South African women or women who are being told to somehow be grateful in that situation.

Your video randomly came across my suggested videos. I am so sorry to hear about that. And I hate that people tried to invalidate you. They still are in the comment section with "well this happens everywhere." Korea has a lot of social issues because of their rapid development after becoming free from Japanese Imperial rule. Not only that they are a patriarchal country that under reports sexual assault. So it makes it seem like Korea is a "safe country" when it's not safe. Especially for women and women foreigners. They need to face this issue and fix it. We don't need to be talking about other countries in the comment section, those people saying that do not care about you, women, and most likely just want to protect Korea's good goody imagine. I was rapped by my Korean boyfriend (I'm half Korean/Black). The authorities only offered me an apology because my BF loved to rape me while I was black out drunk. I speak Korean so it's not an issue of not understanding the language and I also have dual Korean citizenship. This is an issue for all women in Korea. Be safe my friends and Bless you Nolu. You don't even know yourself what's happening or why it's happening. Let alone that you can explain to others what was going on. Yes, South Africa might be unsafe but the Koreans denying your right to feel unsafe just because you're from SA is the most toxic thing I've ever seen. I love the good of Korean. The food, music, aesthetics. The goods are really good, but truth is, when things are bad, they're really BAD bad.
