I don't know what side you are coming from (prisoner or prison officer), but I doubt you have witnessed ever single gaol, and every single prison officer conduct themselves. "Can't do the time; don't do the crime" that doesn't mean that inmates should be treated inhumanely. British prisons can be very tough. Many inmates are locked up for 23 hours of the day. Britain’s prison record is currently, like its public health record, among the worst of any country in Europe.

Its insane. They are so so manipulative. I worked in a kitchen and there was so much competition to see who could make me fold first. Sex, drugs, phones, outside contact. Luckily another inmate let me know they had a bet, plus multiple family members have been in for 20 plus years, (aaand my type of guy is more of an acoustic guitar player so i don't really have an attraction to any of them) That didn't surprise me but what surprised me was how well they knew me despite the fact that I tried to be the same with all of them. If i had a bad day, they knew no matter how bad I tried to act like i was okay, they that i was upset. THAT creeped me out.

@@Noise_floorxx It’s exactly that. They know when you are on your lows and you need help/attention/affection and they will most likely use that for their own gains. They will make you feel important, exceptional. Hopefully you managed to not fall in their traps. Can’t say the same for a lot of people unfortunately.

Imagine the only thing working is your mind and you have thirty years of that ahead of you with no way out. Trapped in your guilty mind rewinding day after day. He's a good guy who started out just trying to help people, and seems to want to help people. I don't know about in the UK, but it makes you wonder about the types who actually do stick with the job over time. I know here in the US I haven't heard the greatest reports. I imagine a total thug might be able do deal with it over time, but not necessarily the type of person that would help anyone else on the inside.

Ask him how he feels that New York city and state corrections officers with four years on the job and work fifty hours end up making roughly 110k before tax ... Versus HMP corrections officers going up to 26-27k roughly after a year or couple yrs? UK prisons aren't 5x less dangerous or stressful but get five times less compensation ? Genuinely curious ... Keeping aside higher cost of living etc in NY, and currency exchange etc ...

Why would they need to protect a bent screw? He was their mate, smuggling in all kinds of illegal things for them. His time inside will have been very safe and comfortable with the other inmates.

Should have more support for prisoners too , imagine how many of them feel stuck with crime as an only option due to no work and being shunned from society even if they wish to change, people feel for this officer even tho he did criminal acts and was conscious of it , if a guy on the street did it you only get to hear the fact he did it , you dont get to hear his humanity or how hes in that situation, like you got to hear this prison officers story and see how he's just a guy who made a bad choice and regrets it feels guilty for it , yes a lot of prisoners maybe even most prisoners dont want help like that , some of them do and wanna change but feel stuck , as this prison officer did

@@connorhehehe1094 No worries 👍 For clarity, I meant everyone. The only differentiation I make is based on attitude. To me, it's all about whether someone wants to go straight or not. If they don't, then there's little that we can do to help them, but where I think we let people down as a society is by not giving them a chance to go straight and judging them solely on one mistake, rather than the immense effort it takes to try and straighten your life out. I spoke about Lee as he was the example in the video (so was an example everyone had seen), but I have good friends who went off the rails when they were younger for all kinds of reasons. They don't deserve to be judged by that alone. One couple I know had a series of theft, car-ringing, and fraud charges. They also grew up poor, became teenage parents, and only had one living parent between them by the time they were 21 - & that parent was an addict. It's not at all surprising that they were easily led down the wrong path - they were young, desperate, and had no guidance. Now, they're on their feet, have been totally legit for years, trained up to get good jobs and are showing their own kids a better path. Without support, intervention, and *real* rehabilitation, the cycle would have continued. Instead, their kids are amazing and their daughter is about to become the first person in either family to go to university. Rehabilitation saves lives and betters society as a whole. My friends got it because a group of us stepped up and helped them, but not everyone has that, which is why it's so important that the justice system offers better support. Makes me angry that so many people are denied it - because helping people not to reoffend doesn't just help that individual, it helps all of us live in a safer world. Apologies for the essay - I get on my soapbox on this topic! 🤦‍♀️😂
