In the 1990s, The Gold Club in Atlanta was the place to be. A mix of Vegas meets Studio 54, The Gold Club provided its guests with bottle service and a plethora of beautiful, fully nude women to look at. In this episode of I Was There, Jacklyn “Diva” Cook recounts her wild and crazy time working at The Gold Club during its heyday in the 90s, making upwards of $5k an hour, until it all came to a screeching halt when the club was raided by the FBI.

It’s not like this anymore! Now you have to be a prostitute to make money in the industry , clubs are adding hot tubs, or limos that take you off the property to prostitute . The whole industry took a nose dive in 2020. Since Covid it’s never recovered. Clubs have stepped away from theatrical performing, and implemented prostitution. Drug use is rampant more than ever.. and this is coming from a feature, a 15 year veteran of clubs , I’ve been everywhere. California to Florida. They are all trash nowadays 💯 Unless you wanna sell Ass 💁🏼‍♀️ I would advise against that😂

You could get away with tons more than you ever think about today. I was a lead singer in different metal bands around the North Texas/ Dallas area. My first band I played bass in I was 15. 1985. We were balls to the wall then and every band since then, when every practice turned into a party with lots of beer, chicks, and great music, whatever else, lots of drama. Lots of us didn't survive cleaning up, becoming parents and maturing. Seemed like after Sept. 11th 2001. Party was over. Officially.

Loved the Gold Club! Went a few times whenever I went down to Alabama or Georgia. My father took me there after I graduated from basic training, as he had gone there when he was in Atlanta on business. Went one time with my buddy and they gave us FREE dances! Of course we ended up buying more! Just a great and fun place with beautiful women and classy.

absolutely solid of kaplan-ain’t many folks that would stand strong and cover the tab for 17 people against the feds. and then, to make sure nobody was convicted in the plea other than him. damn. also have to say that she dropped a jewel at the end, two actually, when she speaks on how she adjusted to such a drastic change of circumstances (change the way you live) and how she viewed her past (lucky to have lived it and grateful for the experience). i moved to atlanta in ‘96, turned 21 in ‘97 (pretty sure it went highlander, cheetah, tattletails, backstreet)-and by virtue of my job-was a gold club regular in the VIP semi-private mezzanine seats across from all the gold rooms. i went every night for about a year (except sundays when everyone went to the pony cuz all the other bars were closed). i was on someone else’s tab and the youngster of the group so i just drank free drinks and hit on the cocktail waitress (hey chasity) whom i later got a bartending job for, and had a good time.

When she said the industry was so popular at the time like second to coca cola, I get what she means. I remember as a kid in the 90s , it was on TV like almost every day. Get home from school, turn on the TV and it's on Jerry Springer, Jenny Jones, a lot of the talk shows except for Oprah featured strippers. And they'd be in sparkly bikinis and perform. We were little kids watching it on regular network tv channels and our parents would've never guessed that nbc or any big network was showing that. You can find so many of those clips from those shows here on RU-vid.

Wow, hearing this makes it seem so glamorous, so exciting and fun, and the fact that she was stated as the number one girl by the club owner, made 6 figures a year, upwards of 400k a year is a very high paying job. I don't care what anyone says, that's a damn good income where you can build any type of life you want especially in the 90s that kind of money was unheard of. Lucky lucky girl. She worked hard for it and it's commendable. Good for her. Wow, this is an insane story, the fact Steve paid for all 17 of their lawyer fees, that man had a lot of money and used it to protect his people. Even if they had money of their own he paid for them because they worked for him. He paid 5 million, did 13 months in prison so that they could walk is truly commendable. Why did she lose her 1.2 million net worth? Is that what they took because of her charges? I don't get why she couldn't keep her own money. I want a 2 hour documentary on this whole thing. I'm so interested.

With that many indictments, I would like to hear the behind the scenes story of what was happening at the Gold Club. Especially with that much prison time, there had to have been something actually going on. Sure I can see the government trumping up charges to clear space for infrastructure, but there’s gotta be more to it.

growing up in ATL, especially during this era, is like always being the best dressed person in the airport. you don’t lose the touch you get in ATL & you never lost the touch that this time & the strip industry imprinted on you. my mom refuses to allow me on only fans, she insist i do playboy. i work a corporate job. but that’s just the impact and influence. so many of my friends moms childhood and beyond were these women & i wouldn’t change it for the world ❣️
