June did not know she was trafficked by her mom until she watched a documentary about human trafficking. She talks about this moment of realization, her story, and why being trauma-informed is not a skill but a way of life. Now, chairman of the OUR Rescue Survivor Advisory Board, she speaks about its purpose. Listen now!

Thank you for sharing these podcasts. I was wondering, what is the flashing warning sign and writting that comes up for half a second in your videos?

Why are you, do they blame it all on the men paying for it. Yes that is aweful . Absolutely. But. The mother selling her daughter had no mention. To me. What is worse. Unbelievable... How could a mother do that????

On both accounts the men paying for sex with these kids and the parents selling their own children. See the economic concept of "The Law of Supply and Demand". Yeah it's absolutely horrific and sickening as well as heartbreaking and a whole host of other descriptive words. It's worse when you look at the massive amount of trafficking going on in the world these days and the extremely low amounts of investigator's, law enforcement, advocacy groups and legal services as well as medical and psychological services tasked to help save them and for the recovery of people being trafficked. Plus, don't forget there's even less psychological services available to treat the adults who are the consumers of this horrificness who have many times been the victims of sexual and other forms of abuse when they were children. How do you put out a firestorm when there's no resources available to fight it and there's not much being done to write new well thought out laws making the necessary resources available either?

I hear you. I was not sexually abused as a child but was verbally (I hate you, you are a mistake, you should never have been born, worthless) and physically abused with wire hangers, appliance cords, cast iron pans, buckle end of belts etc. by my mother who also let my sister beat me. Yes, she was mentally sick and/or demon possessed. So I get it. Sexual abuse is not the same, I understand that. But the feelings. The demoralization. I am now 76. And still wake up with nightmares. But my God has healed me.

This is such a a needed resource for such a time as this. I come across survivors in the homeless people all the time and learning how to just be there for them by listening and getting ideas from people like June who have been there and done that. I know people who still don't know how to process and cope with their trauma and it's a vicious cycle for them just to be able to function and move forward. Many are stuck still or worse become predators themselves. 😢

I mean, I agree, it's horrible. But if there was no one to buy, there'd be no reason to sell, ever.

Welp, it's been about a month since they've done an episode, and I stand by what I said: this was the best episode in this podcast series. I know that Matt Osborne said on episode 11 that Voices for Freedom isn't a fundraiser, but I'd have to disagree. I was stressing myself trying to watch all of these episodes because I had the Fear Of Missing Out ( FOMO ). I want to educate myself on anti-human trafficking because I want to do this for a living. I thought that listening to Voices for Freedom was going to settle me into these conversations and that I was going to learn a lot. Honestly, I didn't. Each episode, except for this episode ( episode 9 ), felt like a chore to get through, very cookie cutter, very planned, very, "Hey, why should people give OUR Rescue money?" At first, I thought this episode with June was going to feel that way, but it didn't. This episode was powerful. June's story was powerful. Her words caused me to reevaluate a lot of the ways that I've tried to help people and where I went wrong, but it also validated me -- that I was on the right path all along. None of the other episodes have done this. So, OUR Rescue, I appreciate this series, but you need more episodes like this one. This episode? Episode 9? It lit a fire in me. Imagine if the other 10 episodes were like that? I look forward to working with you guys in the future. Remember my name.
