The Government has issued an apology to Julia Hartley-Brewer after a unit monitoring social media during the Covid-19 pandemic falsely labelled her as a known 'vaccine sceptic'.
The report, which was shared with a US counter-terrorism unit, was made by the civil liberties campaign Group Big Brother Watch, who were investigating the government's counter disinformation activities during the pandemic.
This incident raises concerns about the lack of accountability, oversight, and legal powers held by these monitoring units.
Julia Hartley-Brewer told TalkTV viewers that she felt like she was being treated as an enemy of the state, saying that "MPs, scientists and others are basically being smeared."
Julia was joined by Silkie Carlo, director of Big Brother Watch, who said: "What we have today is an acknowledgement from the government that what they did in your case was unlawful. And their words were, that it was inaccurate and not impartial."
