Lawn care in Australia is not without challenges. I'm not used to being accosted on the job by angry parents, but it happened on this day! She was pretty cute though, so I didn't let it get to me too much :)

Hi friends, thanks for the continued support! People often ask how they can help me with my work, but can't commit to a Patreon subscription. Watching and sharing my videos is more than enough of a contribution, however if you are someone who would like to help fund one of my 'free' clean up jobs without signing up to anything, I now have a 'Buy Me a Coffee' page. You can donate $5 or more if this is something which interests you :) www.buymeacoffee.com/bladematelL Kind regards Sean

I do the same with the rabbits and turkeys. I work around them. My yard is like a sanctuary for the animals. We have moose, fox, rabbits, turkeys, bears, coyotes, deer and wolfs that come into the yard. We have water and trees on the land to give them. protection for the elements.

We had a cat once who got too close to a bluebird nest, and the parents dive bombed him every time he set a paw outside after that. We called them Goodness and Mercy, because they followed him all the days of his life. 😀 I sure hope the clients warned you in advance about those birds. That’s a bit of an unpleasant surprise if you weren’t aware … seriously, those wings! Great job handling them.

We have the same kind of birds here in Argentina and we called them “tero” for the sound they make. And they have the spurs and they make their nests in the ground like yours do. And some people like them in their yards because they are better than a guardian dog when someone walks in the yard (like you experienced) hehe

This was great to show! You can even tell when you are out of their “personal space”. Plovers actually stop making that threat noise once they feel you are a safe distance away from their babies. They give plenty of warning to back it up before actually attacking it any way. This was a fantastic example that we can easily co-exist with them if we are listening.

Here in the States we call them Killdeer.(Kildere) The problem is them nest on the ground. They puff up their chest like they are going to take on JD every year...I have flowers they can put their nest around/in whatever they have to do. i have had lapwings nesting on my 5 acre property for the 20 years i've been near Maryborough Vic. sadly i've only seen them hatch 3 times, they nest near the house which affords protection from the foxes, but at about a month old they move the chick toward the back of the property and they are simply gone one morning, i presume foxes get them. my dogs have always been protective of the birds, but i don'/t leave them outside all night. i just adopted a 6 year old border collie x maremma, so maybe he will protect the chicks this year.

Having been bombarded by both bluejays and robins while mowing my yard, i guessed it. However neither of these breeds of bird had half as impressive of beak as yours and those claws on their wings would have had me building a fence shielding their nest to pacify the parents. Thank you for including this video. It is my favorite critter video of yours with the waterway clean up you and your wife did. Your birds are so different from those in the USA. It is a joy to see you respecting yet showing them. Thank you for sharing!!
