Hey fellow freeze dryer 😍 longer freeze drying won’t do much more for those candies that didn’t. Some candies have higher oil contents making them not freeze dry. As for gummie bears it’s all about what brand you buy. Try different brands and yes chocolate won’t freeze dry but chocolate ice cream will 😍

So sorry about Gizmo. I had a bird dog that had severe seizures that we finally had to let pass. It's hard. They're our children and a big part of our families. I'm convinced that they are all running free and happy as could be, and very healthy.

Freeze dried ice cream sandwiches are a favorite in my family. You have to make sure the temp in the freeze dryer is below freezing when you put the trays in. Also Charleston Chews are wonderful freeze dried!

Becky, just a tip on freeze-drying: high sugar content items can explode or not freeze-dry well, if you do high-sugar foods, it may take longer, but for things like ketchup, people suggest diluting it with water, this way the sugar will be spread out and it will freeze dry better. Freeze drying process only removes water through sublimation, which is the process of getting water from solid state (ice) directly to vapor state, bypassing the liquid state. That can be done by getting the water below triple point, via low temperatures and low pressure. Fats can not be freeze dried. Therefore, chocolate will never freeze dry due to high fat content (cacao butter). If you want to store freeze-dried food long-term, you have to modify the recipes to eliminate any fats, oils, butter. It is just the matter of getting creative. Otherwise, the food will go rancid because the fats in it will go rancid. I love Skittles, mini marshmallows, both white and colored. Yogurt drops are nice too. You can freeze the chocolate silicone forms that are filled with low fat yogurt of your choice, fruit containing ones are better, then carefully pop them onto the tray and FD. But the best one is FD vanilla icecream. I buy mine from a local creamery that makes their icecream from real milk. Put the dollups of icecream on the parchment paper since they will be very delicate when done, they are THE BEST! My family loves them, including my dog! Remember to put your trays in the freeze dryer while it is pre-cooling for frozen foods, then take out the trays and fill them with your frozen goodies to avoid melting, pop them back into the machine and start the cycle. Use gloves to handle frozen trays. Don't mix pre-frozen and non-frozen food. Good luck! And I am truly sorry about Gizmo!

Becky, I made a double batch of your 1 hour buttery rolls for Thanksgiving and they were a huge hit. I am going to make another batch for my brother's family, because they may have fought over the last couple.

I did skittles. They came out good. I did gummy bears but I didn't leave any space between them. They stopped expanding about 1/4 inch shy of the tray above them. One solid tray of a beautiful mess. I loved them after I spent a couple hours trying to separate them

If you’re going to freeze dry candy try putting either the mats that come with it on the trays before hand or you could use parchment paper a lot easier to get off the tray clean up is better

Milk duds are my favorite freeze dried candy. Second would be marshmallows. And my 3rd would have to be peppermints 4th would be the starburst and then my number one all time favorite candy ever reg and freeze dried is nerd clusters. Gummy warms are also funny and yummy. A few months back before I had my son I ended up ordering a lot of freeze dried candy from a website 😂 I would honestly love to do it my self.

Condolences on Gizmo, we lost our 15 year old cockerspaniel last week, such a sad time. Well done trying something different with the freeze drier. I'd love one but they cost a small fortune here in Australia.

So, so sorry for your loss! My littles love when the dogs interrupt, they especially liked Gizmo. We lost our Chihuahuas 2 years ago last September, my old man Lucas passed first and then his wife Latte died a few days later from a broken heart. I forgot to tell you on a previous video that you were doing on garlic, living traditions Homestead has a garlic peeler on their Amazon affiliate page. I think it’s only around six dollars and they swear by it for peeling garlic easily and quickly. If I remember right, they are the ones that look like black and blue tubes. From what they had demonstrated, you just put a clove of garlic into it, rub/roll it back and forth A few times and a naked piece of garlic will fall out. That should make your garlic peeling go a lot faster for you. 💙💙💙

Love this idea! Wonder what a sucker would do, you know the ones with a tootsie roll in the center? The outside, I imagine, would blow up like the jolly ranchers do but the inside would be interesting... Have you freeze dried marshmallow? Like a peep or any type of candy with marshmallow in them? Could be fun!

I think the sugar content has a lot to do with whether or not candy will freeze dry. Caramel is so dense; it may work if it is cut into thin slices.

Freeze dried marshmallows are amazing especially ones with a thin layer on chocolate on it too xx

I'm so sorry Becky, I've lost four of my boys to cancer in the past two years . I'm thankful God blessed me with them for fourteen years and they were all rescue . I miss them very much .I'm so sorry for your loss xx

When I freeze dry liquids, I place the liquids into 1 quart zip top bags (don't over fill, just about 2 1/2 cups per bag) lay them flat and freeze. Then when they are completely frozen cut away the bags and lay the frozen "bricks" onto the trays and place in the freeze dryer. No drips or spillage. Easy peasey.
