I knew god of war wasn't gonna win because it won everything else. That's how they do. Remember in 2018 when it was God of war vs red dead 2 and red dead 2 got almost every award and then God of war got game of the year. Once god of war got 3 award I was like yup. They softening the blow. It's not gonna win. Just like they did for red dead. Are the awards even legitimate at this point
@@QuyetStorrm nah brah. Elden ring was something new and exciting. It destroyed horizon forbidden West. And it was in the news for months after it released. Let's be fr. After Ragnarok came out after a couple days no one was talking about it. Twitter was not on god of war. It was on abk and Microsoft. And it's a continuation of 2018. It didn't break the mold or do anything new. Just improved. That's why 2018 won it was new. Ragnarok has a lot of pacing issue lot of puzzles I mean your picking fruit. His son telling u how to do the puzzle before u start. All the stuff no one mentioned. It was a good sequel that's it. eldenring had non souls people playing that game. And outsold cod. That's a feat. It deserves game of the year. And I hate souls games lol. And PS5 got outsold by Xbox when god of war came out and all Xbox had was pentiment lol. And God of war was bundled off top. Sad to see.
In a span of 1 year, this sucka jinxed: -Dying Light 2 (Hyped up) -Horizon Forbidden West (Hyped up) -Elden Ring (Said it was nothing special) -God of War Ragnarok (Said it would win GOTY) -Multiversus (Hyped up) -Callisto Protocol (Hyped up) ... These stats looking crazy chief.
boi shut yo crusty behind up. I was wrong about *TWO* games I hyped up this year and now all of a sudden I'm a black witch that curses games. *BEAT IT* *WASH YA ASS*
@@SulphurBorne Its more than an open world dark souls, they took all the good things from souls, sekiro and bloodborne and mashed em into this game, they even expanded on the weapon system and how you scale and customize your character and streamlined it. It might be open world dark souls for people not familiar with Fromsoft but to old time fans its much more.
Y'all do realize, Geoff gave everyone a hint of who will win game of the year at the very beginning of the show, when he first gave a shout-out to the head developer sitting in the very front row
@@eddieb1995 the writing in Ragnarok is straight up marvel movie tier, they trying so hard to add cheesy humor in the game. at least the first game actually tried to be serious.
@@mrimbord He's not wrong tbh. It's not as bad as Marvel yet, but they were inching way too close. The dialouge feel quippy at times (RDJ single handedly caused this by being so good) and the focus is on spectacle. I'm hoping they reel it back in with their next project, because this kind of writing can get obnoxius very fast.
Elden ring won: GOTY Best Game direction Best Art direction Best Role playing game GoW won: Best performance Audio design Best narrative Best action adventure Accessibility (spoiling puzzles) Elden Ring won more important awards in the context of gaming GoW won more important awards in the context of telling a story and mainstream appeal (more of a movie than a game and made it easy enough for everyone to enjoy) Both were deserving of GOTY imo but it comes down to people's individual preferences I think. Very different games, doing very different things, makes it hard to compare.
6 awards but lost art direction, game direction, and goty the copium is real 😭 all jokes aside both games are incredible I'm glad we got two games in the same year that will likely be regarded as among the best of the decade 🙏
Elden Ring hit over 100k viewers on twitch daily for the first 2 months it was out. God of war has already died out. There was never a question that Elden Ring was gonna win GOTY.
@@fawkkyutuu8851 the copium is real with this one. even now alot of people are still waiting for elden ring dlc, and the recent free multiplayer update has bring many people to play the game. what about Ragnarok? most people just gonna play the game a couple of times and then forget about it, because they can only enjoy the story once and then thats it, nothing to keep the player playing like multiplayer or anything.
@@baum_1386 two S tier games alongside many A and B tier games felt like the glory days again. Next two years are gonna be absolutely STACKED as well. Also got huge games like gta6 and elder scrolls 6 on the horizon. The near future of gaming looks bright once again :')
I'm amazed how fast this brotha edited this and put it out just a mere few hours after the show, really a goated youtuber and streamer! Ya Love to see it
Bruh that man's security all should be fired 😂, the whole time I thought the kid was part of their entourage low and behold it was a random who snuck on 😂
Ragnarok didn't deserve GOTY,it's just a cheap clone of The Last of Us when you think about it with Kratos trying and failing to be a Joel like character
Elden Ring and God of War are both amazing games in their own right, but in my opinion Elden Ring deserved Goty; it changed the scope of the souls formula and it worked.
was highkey hoping GOW didnt sweep the awards. Cause that's how it was looking for a second. All jokes aside I'm glad elden ring got some shine towards the end
I've been playing games since 1979. Elden Ring is one of the greatest games I've ever played. It doesn't hold my hand or put me on rails. Truly amazing. And I don't usually play RPGs all that much.
@@CloseYourBrownEyes handholding, the game treats him like an actual inteligent person capable of solving puzzles, winning combat situations etc You may not know this but many modern games made during and after the PS3 era have hidden mechanics that help the player, enemies intentionally miss their shots in shooting game etc
Elden Rings Game of the Year was well deserved. It broke the mold of traditional game design. GOWR is an astounding game, the race was close. Congrats GOW fans on your rewards! Congrats Elden Ring fans!
Elden Ring made a UNIQUE open world game. Proving most of us don't want to be hand held (ASSASINS CREED). GOW was a sequel that was better than it's successor. but it wasn't unique like Elden Ring.
We all knew since elden ring released it would have been a battle between elden ring and God of war for game of the year so either one winning is a blessing
Elden Ring hit over 100k viewers on twitch daily for the first 2 months it was out. God of war has already died out. There was never a question that Elden Ring was gonna win GOTY.
The ending got me rolling 🤣🤣 6>4. I wanted GoW to win but we knew that the Elden Ring hype was different. That being said... Sifu got robbed and Horizon should've at least won that sound design category.
@A B "Have you not played God of War" I clearly said that I wanted God of War to win GOTY, so obviously I did. Platinumed it actually. You clearly haven't played Forbidden West though, that much is clear. Way more sound variety in it than in Ragnarok.
HYUUUCK ELDEEEEEN RAAAAANG 😂😂 man I swear your videos age like fine wine. This was hilarious, I’m lowkey glad Elden Ring won so that you have this reaction
Red dead won more awards than God of war in 2018 but God of war won In 2018 instead elden ring won because its probably the best game to come out in years over all since probably skyrim
Been saying it from the jump. Elden Ring changed the game. God of War is great but its more the same. Elden Ring got people who would never touch a 60 hour AAA game diving in. Aint nobodies random uncle, wife, coworker playing God Of War who isn't already a fan of that kind of game. I have seen people of all types get excited about Elden Ring. People were talking about Elden Ring for months after it dropped. Casuals, hardcore, sports gamers, everybody was playing that game. God of War does not have that pull, different level.
Knew it would win. Ragnarok is good, but Elden Ring is just more fun game, better controls, replay value, expansive new take on open world game design, and that's not even including the fun of multi-player. COPE LOL
gowr is a good game if u wanna sit back and turn ur brain off and experience the story the game is trying to deliver elden ring tho is just on another level it completely changes the open world game style that has become so popular in the west
I was not surprised at all. What helped GOW win in 2018 is the same that helped Elden Ring in 2022. A game that changed the formula of its predecessors. I felt that Red Dead Redemption 2 was slightly better than GOW 2018 but it did not innovate as much on the first game compared to GOW so it lost to the risk taker.
I thought there was a chance Elden Ring wouldn't win because it had haters in the game industry but despite that I'm glad that it won. But I'm very happy that Kirby and Bayonetta won awards. Disappointed that TMNT or Sifu didn't win and role playing game of the year should of went to Xenoblade 3.
I loved Gow Ragnarok but it does have recycled puzzles and annoying ones, more of the same. Unlike Elden Ring where everything you do you want more of it. In Elden Ring you can feel an constant flux of surprise and joy.
