Something to mention is that Speak Now Taylor's Version is "missing" one song when compared to the original versions of it. "If This Was a Movie" was included in the deluxe version of the album back then, but since it was the only non-exclusively self-written song, Taylor decided to leave it out and then release it in an EP from Fearless Taylor's Version. So it would be nice if you could listen to "If This Was a Movie Taylor's Version" too in the next part of the video, it is my favorite song from this album 💜
Some notes about the album: Back to December is about Taylor Lautner. Dear John is about John Mayer, when they dated she was 19 and he was 32. Innocent is about the Kanye incident at the VMAs, which happened in September (also mentioned in back to December)
Dear John, Superman, Story of Us, and Ours are also about John Mayer (he was 32, she was 19, its very icky and she will revisit this relationship much later in her discography so keep an eye out for the age 19) Back to December is about Taylor Lautner (she and him are on good terms now & he even starred in a music video for a Speak Now vault track, and his wife is also named Taylor which is just funny) Last Kiss is another Joe Jonas song. So is Better than Revenge (well Joe and his new girlfriend, Camila Belle). BTR has a whole controversy attached to it, it's basically Taylor's Misery Business complete with a slut shaming lyric so for the re-record she changed the lyric from "she's better known for the things that she does on the mattress" to "he was a moth to flame, she was holding the matches". Enchanted is about Adam from Owl City (they met like once at a NYC party) Mine was based on a daydream she had Speak Now was loosely inspired by Hayley Williams & Taylor going to Hayley's ex's wedding Long Live is about her band (and is now also about the fans) Sparks Fly was originally written around 2007 about country singer, Jake Owen, who Taylor performed with once and had a crush on. She performed a version of Sparks Fly at a few shows in 2007 and fan demand for it saw her polish it up for this album. This is the first instance of her listening to fan feedback for her music (she'll do it again for All Too Well 10 and Cruel Summer becoming a single) Innocent is about her forgiving Kanye for VMAs incident (this doesn't last in the long run) Never Grow Up is Taylor singing to a younger version of herself which she already did on Fifteen and will do again on a song on Midnights) Mean was inspired by her getting a very harsh review of a live performance she did with Stevie Nicks at the Grammys (the critic said her career deserved to be in the trash bin). So of course she performed Mean at the Grammys and won two Grammys for the song I have no idea who Haunted's muse is and I've never seen anyone talk about it DO NOT FORGET IF THIS WAS A MOVIE, it's TV can be found here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9wZEx9A8p9k.html i think that's all the notes I have (when you get to Red Vault make sure to include Eyes Open and Safe & Sound, both have been re-recorded and Taylor added them to a Red album playlist basically saying "these are Red era and should be listened to here". The two songs were written for the Hunger Games soundtrack like how Today Was a Fairytale was written for the Valentine's Day movie (where Taylor met Taylor Lautner coincidentally)
I like to think that haunted was written for the new moon soundtrack back when she was dating Taylor lautner and it just didn’t work out. The lyrics fit so well with Bella’s feelings in that movie 😂
Im glad you mentioned you are looking at the lyrics, because to us you're talking over the lyrics, and Taylor writes purposefully. especially the deeper you get into the discography, the lyrics are super important to a story shes telling or a feeling shes specifically putting you in for that song. Shes a master of writing and I dont want you to miss things she's saying.
Don't worry I am reading along for every single song!!! I'm not missing any of the lyrics, might miss some of the meanings and messages some of the times but that's just cause I'm a bit slow 🙃 definitely reading along the whole time though!! And I listen to all the songs like 2-3 more times while editing ☺
Loved the reaction. Thinking about "Innocent" as a song to herself is a lot more lovely than it being a song for Kanye, who later backstabbed her in a horrible way... Are you going to watch her documentary, Miss Americana?
