Thanks again for coming and checking out our builds David, it was a pleasure to have you! We're glad that we made a positive impact on you and these "unusual" mod cars that we love so much. We've always got more cars for you to come check out in the future. Also thanks to VinWiki for touching on the Ecotec platform, they're severely underrated engines and can be a ton of fun.
Super cool to see you guys get the recognition you deserve on these larger RU-vid channels! I remember when Dave's videos came out and it was strange seeing him fly down the same roads I regularly do my spirited driving on, not very often do you get to see RU-vidrs in the Grand Rapids area. And as a side note, tell Edin and Bo I said hi!
ZZP sells nothing but Chinese crap and the owner is a convicted scammer. Just google the court cases Uzoma Iwuagwu has lost. Sorry this channel chooses to associate with scum.
I’ve owned a lot of cars. Driven a lot of em too, and the cobalt is the quirkiest car that’s ever made me smile. Next to the ford Taurus, it ranks as one of my favorite economic US cars. Honestly it’s chevy’s version of the dodge Omni GLH. It just handles so weird, yet reliably.
I think I ran into these guys racing a Sonic going for a record of sort up at US131 Dragstrip for a Street Car Takeover a couple of years back. Definitely some cool builds for sure. Also the Ecotec held the record for the quickest and fastest 4 cylinder for quite awhile.
I have the 11, thats got a german vin. Its the Regal R. 2.0L turbo fwd car, but AT. I'm old enough to not want to clutch in traffic, but its also got power when necessary AND comfortable enough for a nap on long drives haha
I have a red 06 cobalt ss with all the things on it, in my driveway tight now. Smaller pulley, 2.5 long tube header, dp and catback. Sparco wheels and indy 500 tires, NRG pizza seats, injen intake, stage 3 supercharger kit. Powerstop dr/sl rotors and calipers.
I have a 2014 chevy cruise and have been using ZZP Performance products for the past 2 years I have been tuning it up. solid products and a solid company
These dudes sound like an awesome bunch of dudes. Building really cool odd ball cars that no one else builds making some really cool sleepers that no one else builds.
Hell ya zzp. Bought everything and everything for my sonic is from them and love it. My father had an 05 zz cobalt and it's way better than the turbo version. They make a ton of cool stuff for 3.8s too.
The first car I ever bought was a Cobalt. I get it. Nobody understood why I was so in love with it. I worked for a rental car company. I had driven so many different cars but I loved the Cobalt and strange enough, the Chevy Aveo. That's how I learned it's way more fun to drive a slow car fast
I've been on several tail of the dragon runs with the boys from zzp, even visited them up in Michigan once and met everyone there, zoomer is a cool dude and I miss going to totd with them every year
Taurus? Regal? What about a Dodge Spirit RT that made 225hp in 91 and could make 300 with a $15 boost controller? Or an Omni GLHS in 87 that made 175hp stock and easily over 200 with boost turned up?
Canadian Carl Brunet, operator of Napierville Dragway in Quebec, became the driver of the first four-cylinder machine of any kind to clock under six seconds and, later, over 230 mph back in 2020 during the annual World Doorslammer Nationals at Orlando (FL) SpeedWorld in 2020. The engine: GM Ecotec in a "GXP"! Go check it out.
The ecotec was actually the dominant turbo 4 cylinder motor in the early days of import drags, beating out the DSMs and hondas a lot of times. They were probably the most competitive motor over all in the late 90s and early 2000s import pros. Its still relevant. It was the first 4cyl into the 5s when Carl Burnett did it in a GXP.
Day 83 on waiting for a video on a crazy unique car collection this woman has in NJ of all Saturn -s-series and some other ones I totally of like 20 cars she has in her collection …. Look up Saving Saturn Would love to see a video on it..I’m sure you would do great on it too !!
I own a 2008 HHR SS manual that I have owned for years and for about 8 years now it has made a reliable 400+ WHP. All ZZP parts. Motor never been opened, just bolt-ons. One of the most sleeper cars I ever owned. It pisses off my friends who have a 2015 Mustang GT, 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT and 2018 BMW M3. Best part is the reactions I get from it, and on road trips if I am driving normal it still gets 35 MPG.
Can't go to zzp and not talk about the 400+ hp turbo 3800s. Ecotechs are whatever. You haven't experienced torque steer until you've let a turbo 3800 eat from a dig. Mine was 400hp and was a monster, and sounds so good.
@davidfournier999 fantastic, the 3800 is still better. Horsepower is only half the battle, let's talk torque numbers. Anything can make good power these days, that's not impressive. Put the whole package together, grand prix, Bonneville, regal are way better looking, sounding, and in a mild built stage can be way more reliable while still making 400+ ft lbs. Not to mention the god awful noise them 4 cylinders make. 3800 is king of the obtainable v6s.
My buddy and I make a business out of modding sleepers. ZZP has even sponsored one of our Chevy Cruzes that makes over 483fwhp. We're about to rebuild the engine again but with stronger internals.
Back in the mid 2000's, there was a guy that would show up at Mosport raceway with a 4 door cobalt SS turbo. Had some bolt on's, tune etc along with some suspension work. It was an absolute weapon. Surprised the heck out of a lot of Carerra owners!
October in Grand Rapid is beautiful but snow can definitely happen. They get nailed with lake effect snow that we don't in the Detroit Metro area. It is nice to hear stories that take place in my backyard.
@@tehbone8604 I love your side of the state. If I could find a job out there, I'd probably pack up shop and move in a heartbeat. Fall snows and all. Glad to see there's a few Michiganers on here.
Really shocked Thatdudeinblue completely went braindead on why the 90s buick regal came with a supercharged V6. It's not a mystery at all why Buick did that. It was a nod to the GNX, which was an forced induction v6 regal, but turbo. They took a grandma type car and made another sleeper, only in the 90s it didn't take off like the GNX did.
I owned a sixth gen Camaro SS for six years, and I get so tired of people whining about the visibility. The visibility is fine. I was used to it in just a couple days.
They go back to the last years of the Cavalier Z24 just N/A. My brother had a 01 and bone stock it chirped the tires in 3rd gear. No other 4 cylinder cars were doing that unless maby something with a 6 speed lol. My buddy had one a year older but automatic and it would shift going into 2nd gear at 75mph. They raced back then and it was really close.
Back in like thr mid 00s I remember talking to a chevy performance rep and he was trying to sell us on their ecotech program at the time. (We had a 1000whp e36 328 that we were drag racing/experimenting with) Remember thinking how cool it was that you could buy a 1600+hp 4 cylinder straight from chevy.
a friend did up a Cobalt SS back in '07 or '08 -dont remember the MY of the car, but it was originally a turbo one so.....anyway....that car was a little rocket ship.....it WAS a Cobalt and suffered all the 'cheap chevy' issues that they all DO.....but it was a LOT of fun to drive and he had it done up in 'stealth mode' and the only hint of its true potential was the wheels and drag radials on it, which it at like candy lol
I'd have to disagree about the sleeper comment. Would honestly hand it to pontiac. With the Bonneville ssei. A supercharged grandma's car. Or the 94 grand prix with the 3.1 turbo. Now those were sleepers to the max
Grew up sitting on the brick retaining walls that line woodward on every friday and Saturday night watching cars. Then my years of 16-21 racing my mustang up and down M1...with trips to the moat of 696 or down to French...talking shit on the forums..great times
It would have been so great to have more aftermarket part for the 1.8NA sonic is a great car chevy could have pushed the limit way more further with that car 😢
ZZP needs to reach out to cleetus and do up his Spark. Then they need to reach out to goonzquad and do up their df goblin. Both of those builds would be sick.
One of the early years of the chevy sonic EV had like 400+ foot pounds of torque and was crazy quick to like 30 mph. Id never buy one but it was fun to drive once
they say its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow, but driving a slow car that wasnt supposed to be built fast that's now fast is a whole other experience
The Cruze is junk that’s why. The cobalt too, he’s talking SPECIFICALLY ABOUT the LSJ / LNF ecotec versions. Not the 2.2l junk, it’s almost an entirely different car (drivetrain wise) the Cruze didn’t have a gm performance version they’re all junk.
