I've seen a few cases of D.I.D. patients on Anthony Padilla's channel. One of them was a very harsh case, but a very sweet young lady. Now, I'm not sure, how much of that video was fake, but if it wasn't, I gotta admit, that was pretty sad. But you gotta give it a watch, she changed personalities multiple times on camera....
Yes their performances are incredible in this film, if you haven’t seen it I highly recommend the movie The VVitch starring Anya. It was her first role and it’s such an amazing horror period piece
@@awkwardfreakinperson7936 I have! Gotta say, i liked it in the beginning but DAMN as it went on it just went downhill. The way they did my guy Bruce Willis :( A FUCKING PUDDLE
@@queensaharaice7376 Idk. I think it fits the story. That's how superheros have to die. I liked it equally as much as Split... Well, maybe ALMOST equally...
DID is real. Used to be referred to as multiple personality disorder. It develops out of trauma. It's real but not the way they show it in this where the diabetic personality has different sugar levels than the others for example. James McAvoy KILLED it in this. The fact you can tell by his posture that he's someone else. Or one personality playing another. It's great
Actually, it has been known for other personalities to have diabetes or even asthma when the rest don’t. The movies depiction of did def isnt too accurate but that part is actually true.
@@TheMetalRiot My theory has always been that Kevin doesn't have D.I.D., and The Horde is part of his 'power'. The immoral ones simply used D.I.D. as a shield to hide behind until The Beast manifested to protect them.
What I love about this movie is that the combination of not knowing exactly what’s going on along with James’ performance leave you in this never ending state of extreme discomfort, and it does so much more than a simple jump scare. He murks this performance. Also his physical transformation is really impressive too.
My mother actually worked with a woman who was held captive and tortured for several months along with two other women by a guy named Gary M. Heidnick in Philidelphia. Her name was Jackie Askins, and because of the horrific trauma she experienced she developed D.I.D. This woman was an absolute angel, especially considering what was done to her, she even gave me advice on how to deal with my own far less severe mental illnesses. However she has an alter who's name is "Donna". As she explained in a TV interview, as well as personally to my mom, Donna is her protector. She's as she put it to my mom "a warrior", and whenever she feels unsafe or threatened, Donna takes over and she will violently lash out at those around her because in that state she cannot recognize anyone, even her own children. In the interview one of her sons described an occassion when they were in the kitchen, and suddenly a blank expression came over his mother's face before it switched to a very aggressive expression. She looked at her own son and said "I'm gonna kill you Gary Heidnick" and proceeded to attempt to stab him, luckily however she was only holding a spoon at the time. She genuinely believed in that moment her own son was the man who committed these crimes, even though he had been dead for more than a decade. She warned my mother that if she ever seemed off around her to get away from her as quickly as possible as she wouldn't be able to control herself, because she wasn't herself, she would be Donna. One heartbreaking thing my mother told me was that one of the tortures Heidnick inflicted on his victims was he would jam screwdrivers and ice picks and other long metal objects into the women's ears and burst their eardrums so they wouldn't be able to hear when someone was in the house, and therefore wouldn't know when to call for help. As a result she has permanent hearing loss, and one day one of Jackie and my mother's managers told her to do something, she didn't hear her, and the manager was very rude and said something about Jackie always making her repeat herself, and so she said to her manager "Well how would you like it if someone jammed a screwdriver into your eardrum over and over again? How well would you be able to hear?!" Absolutely lovely wonderful and inspiring woman, one of the kindest people I've ever met.
I watched this at the theater and remember hearing the music from unbreakable pop up and I was in a holy shit moment. After at the time it was maybe 17 years between movies. Glass I was a little disappointed how the story telling went. But was a decent movie
Fun fact: Split was set and filmed in Philadelphia, and she was set to be held captive at the Philadelphia zoo. M. Night Shyamalan’s films are usually set in the Philadelphia/Pennsylvania area (The Sixth Sense, The Visit, Glass, Unbreakable, Signs) because he grew up in the area.
James signed on late to the movie, and only had a short time to sort out all of the different persona's, and originally they recorded him doing like 23 different "characters". In the next movie, Glass, you see a few more of the identities
DID is very real and i’ve found it very interesting to look up. a person can have only 1 or as many as 100+ alters in their system. what i find interesting is that most of the time an alter is assigned a role. for example if someone with DID is feeling particularly anxious or scared then a protector will front, or if they happen to pass a toy they like then their child sometimes will, there is even a term called the gatekeeper who will push other alters out of control of the body and sometimes also control who is able to remember certain things. not all of them will have a role that’s clear or some may have multiple roles, it’s very complex and is usually caused by past trauma and (to my knowledge) all are often created to help protect the host to some extent. (please correct me if i’m wrong on anything, i do not have DID so any correction or input is appreciated!)
The fact that a WHOLE ENTIRE STRANGER GOT INSIDE THEIR CAR AND THAT THEY IGNORED THAT SUSPICIOUS THUD…. man I would’ve gotten out of that car so quick it’s crazy to me how easy he kidnapped them 😂
anyone else notice that Mike likes the movies WAY more when he does them solo and isn't cracking jokes n talking the whole time?? loll solo you get immersed more for movies it's always the play
I think they’re just two styles of reactions but I like them both. Don’t you ever just watch to just hang out with your friends and watch movies and crack jokes? not every movie watching experience needs to be serious. I love their dynamic when they’re just ripping a movie apart. Reminds me of me and my friends watching movies. If I wanted an immersive experience I’d watch the movie by myself. I appreciate the laid back, laughing with friends vibes. That’s not going to be for everyone though.
“Oh so he’s just like a nutbag” “Oh man dude so he’s like crazy crazy” lmfao you be so serious but I be laughing so hard at the simple lines you say 😂😭😭😂
One of my top favorites. If you didn't catch the reference at the end, this movie ties in with another m night shyamalan movie called "Unbreakable" . And then there's also a 3rd movie called "Glass". If you like this movie you need to check out the others.
I gotta admit, M. Night is still one of my absolute favorite directors working out there today and I don't care what anyone else says. I love the guy....
I really appreciate how this movie highlights how different you can react to a traumatic situation if you already have a history of some kind of abuse. My dad has paranoid schizophrenia, and I spent much of my time living with him analyzing him and my surroundings as an outside observer. I needed to know what he was thinking and constantly considered how my presence affected the "study". All the way down to whether if losing weight--and therefore making less noise-- would keep him from coming upstairs.
Wow this is a good movie! A friend of mine has this disorder he has at least 12 personalities it's so sad, this is a real condition he developed it because he used to get beaten by his dad when he was a kid (it was later discovered that he was also molested multiple times by someone close to his family when he was about 4) :( he's 24 now
I remember hearing that there was a big twist in this movie before seeing it at the cinema (it is Shyamalan after all). And as the movie was wrapping up I was like, "OK, is the twist the whole Beast thing? Because that was built up throughout the movie so not really a twist. The news report is saying the Beast might be a mix of the animals at the zoo, is that the twist?" And then as soon as I heard the name Mr. Glass get said, and saw Bruce Willis, I said out loud "Oh SHIT!"
I have experienced crazy stuff, miraculous stuff. I have a paralytic uncle who can't walk, but one time while I still lived in Mexico, we were celebrating something, and my brother fired a firework which made a big blast that scared my uncle shitless to the point in which he got up his chair, and ran away!!!! We were all in awe. His fear was so much that he forgot that he was paralyzed, and once we reminded him of the fact, his body dropped... and he hasn't been able to walk... But still, we cannot explain how he got up from that chair and ran away! I think the mind does have total control of the body. Life is a placebo, folks.
I love this movie, really! It's a shame how "glass" backfired SO BAD. But the Anya Taylor-Joy and James Mcvoy ARE AMAZING in this movie. Brilliant performances
Unbreakable is a slow burn but sooo so good. Glass was a bit of a disappointment imo but still worth a watch. I went to theaters for that one bc I was so hyped
Fun Fact: Lauren LaVera (the girl who plays final girl Sienna in Terrifer 2 & 3) is Anya Taylor Joy's (girl in front seat) stunt double for this movie 🎉❤
If you watch Moonknight you can get a bit more detailed story of how DID develops with a smaller amount of personalities, it's sad because of the root of its development but it is fascinating to study
I probably put this M.night movie up there with The Sixth Sense and Signs. The writing in his films aren't always the best with his common usage of poor and cringy dialogue, but it is refreshing to see something fairly recent of his and knowing that he can still put out a gem every once in a while
D.I.D = dissociative identity disorder, commonly known as multiple personality disorder. DID is the official diagnosis though. - a psych student and yes like most the comments say, it stems from childhood trauma. basically some people cant deal with their reality themselves so they create other personalities to take it on. so they switch or dissociate between them depending on the situation.
DID is a real mental disorder but is greatly exaggerated in the movie. But since this movie is part of a trilogy it may be that this is just a "super human" type of person with DID
If you watch Unbreakable near the end of the movie Bruce Willis actually passes by the dude n his abusive mother n the reason why he takes a moment n look at the kid weird is because he can hear multiple voices coming from the dude when he was a kid 🤯
This is one of my favorite movies! Now you definitely have to watch Glass. It's really good! Have you watched Unbreakable? It will also help you understand Glass.
Bro I can't believe you don't know this trilogy exist!! Watch all of them! cuz like what you say is so true its so powerful that he have diff personality. Please watch unbreakable and glass too. There are two other guys with diff specialty. Glass is the last one and the girl is there too. I'm looking forward to it aaa so excited cuz the trilogy is one of my fav and the actor very talented too. Have you watch The Narnia? He is also the faun "Mr. Tumnus". I love him ahahaha 😂
M night Shyamalan ( the guy who was at the computer with the Dr, when they were watching him walk past the trash ) makes all his movies in philly so from 6th sense on every time He starts a movie I try to get close an I tried getting in but only was around when they were doing some stuff at the Philadelphia zoo😤 one day I’ll be one of the assholes walking in the background of one of his movies😂 but all in all this is probably my favorite of his movies
So this disorder does exist and to an extent the movie portrayed it well. Some people with DID can have different dominant hands when another personality takes over and even other physical differences, such as a speech impediment or a twitch. It’s very sad, but also interesting how the brain protects itself
Split is part of a“trilogy”, this is a second movie(and the best in my opinion). Research about it and blow your mind! That’s why Bruce Willis appears at the end.
As terrible as Shamcloths movies had become during this era, thought this was going to be awful going into it. Boy did he prove me wrong with this one. The acting, the writing, and the the unexpected tie to Unbreakable was just stellar.
There's a sequel to this movie called glass and unbreakable but you have to watch unbreakable first then glass to get the whole story line it's amazing pls do check it out
Missed the end scene which tied in unbreakable, another underrated great film. Glass was good but could of been much better in terms of their story coming together and the explanation of the underground society. But was a decent film
