Yoo got it chief. It’s right up there wit shootin yerself with ya non-dominant hand with a borrowed gun whilst simultaneously holding plane tickets for an upcomin’ trip, making some coffee in the other room and talkin to someone on the phone. It’s textbook! It’ll be nice and quick for Jennifer to write up back at the station wont it? I’ll get the donuts…

You remind me of a Carol Burnett skit. It opens with a body face-down with a knife in his back. The detective asks her what she knows. CB: It wasn't suicide. Detect: (smirking) How do you know? CB: No note.

@@auldthymer My favourite version comes from Blake's 7, in the second episode of Season 3 where the two remaining heroes rush the guard outside their cell, only for him to flop onto the floor with a knife in his back. The second line is incredible. "That's a difficult way to commit suicide." "Maybe he was cleaning it, and it went off."

The greatest plot hole of the entire series: Everyone knows Jessica is a detective story writer and had a knack for solving murder mysteries, yet some idiot thinks it is completely fine to kill someone while Jessica is around as though they will get away with it.

The thing was, over the seasons, the show developed a predictable pattern or formula that when figured out, enabled me to correctly guess who the killer was by process of elimination no matter how improbable it may seem at that moment. My cousins and I who liked to play the board game "Clue" would try to guess who the killer was mid episode and write it down on a piece of paper and open them at the reveal at the end of the episode to see if we guessed right and I always won.

You ever read the Dark Horse comic BANG! ? A character based on Jessica Fletcher solves a murder and the culprit is not only dumb enough to think he can fool her but also tries to fight her. Sadly for him Paige Turnier is also a dab hand with cane fighting (she's an amalgamation of Flecther and Poirot, hence the cane)

I really appreciate that this show actually went through the effort of having an actual comic book artist make actual comics just for this episode. So many movies and TV shows either use existing real-world comics or have the characters seemingly look at random drawings that happen to be in panels but don't resemble comics in any way, but freaking _Murder, She Wrote_ of all things actually made sure they got it right. Hell, even Hatter's workshop looks like one an actual comic artist would use.

But she definitely belongs in nightmares because she was the ultimate obnoxious elderly parent/horrifying mother in law.

The most interesting thing about that comic was that the last original strip was Momma's grave (with the epitaph "I told you I was sick") surrounded by mourning characters from other comic strips rather than her own family members. Could have been an episode of "Murder She Drew".

The Death To Smoochy reference was brilliant since Fierstein was in that too. Even in the early '90's there was a decline in newspaper comic strips, and some of the legacy strips like Beetle Bailey, which miraculously still soldiers on, got some criticism for continuing long after they'd ceased to be creative. Famously one of the critics was Bill Watterson. This could have been a fun satire of comic strip artists fighting to the death over dwindling resources and intellectual property rights but, alas, it was not to be.

Hey PushingUpRoses, I've got a nice Easter egg to share with you on this one. The drawing of the old lady character that now haunts your nightmares is Mamma from the comic strip Momma. Momma was created by Mel Lazarus, who is the man who comes in after Whiting's credit card was declined and tells him Wantanbe is dead.

Death to Smoochy is a classic! You have Robin Williams in one of his most manic roles, Edward Norton as a guy who just wants to entertain kids (and druggies in rehab), Pam Ferris in the Irish mob, and an entire Smoochy on Ice sequence. And somehow, in spite of all of its raunchy jokes, it ends up being kind of wholesome.

"Weird candy machines?" They're gumball dispensers and you could _(and still can!)_ find them everywhere, even if they're less common than they once were because pre-packaged portions in electronic vending machines are more common. Probably cheaper to build, offer more variety, and take up less space, too.

Roses! Glad to see another video from you! Harvey Fierstein is always just amusing in anything he's in. The mystery though of this episode was probably the weakest I have seen. Seeing Fox Angela Lansbury is interesting, but I wish the story around it was different, because the comic book industry is a very petty industry, but not quite like this.

This is definitely one of the episodes built around its stunt casting, rather than being a good episode. It was Angela Lansbury getting to pal around with Patrick Macnee (too bad Diana Rigg wasn’t there to play his asssistant) and Harvey Fierstein on screen, and probably everyone else behind the scenes.

I think I've recommended it before, but I'd love to see you cover Prediction: Murder. Season 5 episode 8 or 9, I think. It comes before Something borrowed, someone blue. David Birney (you'll remember him as the dude from The Legend of Borbey house episode) plays a psychic. Jessica flies to Arizona to hang with a friend and the psychic holds a party where he tells people things he's divined and has maybe the *most* over dramatic scene in all of Murder She Wrote. If you thought he was dramatic in Borbey House, you have to see him here! Just spectacular!

In the mid 2010s I was in an apartment that had cable tv, and I usually kept my tv set to this one channel that played classics like this, MASH, and Knight Rider. Unfortunately I only remember a little bit of one episode, and that one I believe she was visiting Tokyo. Then another episode I had to look up what year this show was filmed, as they pulled out a cellphone and I was like I thought this was made in the late 80s.

Two episodes I have to recommend: Thursdays Child- A quite emotional and heart wrenching plot where a woman tracks down Jessica and claims her late husband Frank had an affair with her years ago and that her son is Frank’s love child, only for Frank’s possible son to get accused of murder. It has one of the few instances where Jessica actually begins crying and loses her happy persona, which really caught me off guard. Not campy at all but very emotional Night of the Tarantula- Complete ludicrousness. Jess stays on a Carribean island and someone is murdered, and the plot descends into voodooism, killer spiders and zombies. Yes, zombies. The way Jess gets the killer to confess is so ridiculous and awfully acted it’s honestly laughable, but a definite watch if you want an episode that goes deep in the supernatural and hops on the crazy train
