I Watched *Alita Battle Angel* For the First Time - Was WAY TOO GOOD!! 

The fact that we never got a sequel to this was criminal

The good news is last year they announced they are indeed working (finally) on a second and third movie now. It was canned for such a long time that we assumed it would never come back. Such an amazing movie.

Really underrated live action anime movie. I enjoyed watching Alita.

As a loyal fan of the manga, Battle Angel Alita (Gunnm), it was a thrill to watch the movie. Instead of a direct adaptation of the manga, stories from many different chapters of the books were mixed into the film, as well as characters taken from the Alita anime. While I did catch myself comparing the movie to the books, (like how the name Alita was the name of Ido's Cat, not his Daughter), I still loved the story they told in the film, they did a great job of bringing the art from the comic to life. I still secretly hope for a sequel, so even more of the pathos and drama from the books of this Cyberpunk world can be added.

a little backstory (nothing too spoilery): humanity has colonized at least some of the solar system: Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and maybe a few more planets. The humans on these planets have adapted/evolved to living on each of their planets over the centuries URM (United Republic of Mars / martians) all have very big eyes (Alita, Gelda, and the other URM Berserkers in the flashbacks, but they all got helmets on, so we can't see their faces and big eyes: we only get to see Alita's and Gelda's big URM/martian eyes), as Mars gets less sunlight, they need the bigger eyes to take in more sunlight the "earthians", all have small eyes (lol), as earth gets more sunlight, so they need smaller eyes to reduce the amount of sunlight and its the same for humans on the other planets, some have changed very much more dramatically, hardly recognizable as human and then on top of biologically being different, there's also the whole cyberization too (most of the earthians are "hard bodies", having some kind of cyberization: cyborg, machine/robot, or augmentation, whereas, Hugo and his posse, were some of the very rare fully-human-bodied earthians, as they hate the cyberization, they hate all the "hard bodies") ------------- each planet has their own specializations in technology: URM (Mars): 1. nanotechnology/nanomachines (Berserker body/suit): there's a lot more to this, but way too spoilery. Let's just say, the Berserker body/suit is no joke... (hint: understand about nanomachines)... Desty Nova would LOVE to get his hand on a Berserker body/suit... lol 2. anti-matter (or whatever the sci-fi tech) power units (Alita's, and the other URM Berserkers', "hearts", needed to power her/their Berserker body-ies/suit-s). Those "hearts" can: power a Berserker body/suit, power an entire planet, or blow up an entire planet, lol. And Alita just freely offers that to Hugo... ya, Desty Nova would LOVE to get his hand on Alita's "heart"... lol 3. Panzer Kunst (Armored Martial Art): the origin of Panzer Kunst is from Mars, though it has spread beyond mars, but now its been mostly forgotten. Panzer Kunst is no joke, but can't go into its full potential as that's way too spoilery. There's many different developed schools/disciplines/specializations of Panzer Kunst. Panzer Kunst (Armored Martial art), or at least the school/discipline/specialization of Panzer Kunst that Alita knows, at its most basic level is: (A) the destruction of "armored" targets: machines (ships, sentry bots, tanks, etc) and cyborgs and augmented, (B) zero-gravity combat (fighting in space), though the physics involved, also helps in gravity too, and both (A and B) of which, helps with lastly (C) enables a smaller and/or weaker user to destroy a larger and/or stronger target. Also, there's different ranks/"belts" in Panzer Kunst ability, and while Alita is pretty high rank in her Panzer Kunst abilities, she's not the best... there's even better users of Panzer Kunst then Alita... "earthians" (Earth): (can't get into, as spoilery), let's just say, the URM had a good reason to wipe out earth's "sky cities" (aside from failing to destroy "Zalem"/Tiphares and assassinate/kill Nova) and most of the surface of the earth too, in "The Fall" (the Terraforming Wars), 300 years ago... ---------- hopefully this is not too spoilery... read at your own risk... Berserker Gelda, Berserker Alita, and the rest of their Berserker squad were URM's most elite black op special forces, given the most important mission in URM's attack on the earth, during "The Fall" (the Terraforming Wars): destroy "Zalem" (Tiphares) and assassinate/kill/execute Desty Nova, but as seen, they failed to do so (their ship was shot down by "Zalem"/Tiphares' defenses, which is why we see them going up the cable by foot. It would be so cool if the ship under the water in the movie, was actually their ship that got shot down, hehe, and then they were wiped out by the defense rings). We don't learn what happened to Gelda, and everyone else was killed by the defense rings, except for Alita, who was captured. Being an enemy of earth, she was to be executed (much to Desty Nova's horror): sent down with the rest of the trash to the earth's surface from "Zalem"/Tiphares, with the re-entry heat vaporizing her dead, which it (almost) did, destroying her Berserker body/suit, except for her head (and her human brain) and her "heart" (anti-matter, or whatver, power core). Alita would lie in the trash pile for 300 years, until finally an earthquake (not shown in this hollywood movie) would cause the pile of trash on top of her to fall away, revealing what's left of her, for Dr. Daisuke ("Dyson" for us stupid american audience) Ido to find... which is then the start of the movie... Oops, forgot, also the re-entry heat did fry some of her circuits, which is why she had her amnesia... Alita's "amnesia" only effected her in these 3 ways: 1. limited her Panzer Kunst ability (yes, Alita is even more OP than what we saw in the movie, lol) 2. forgot her mission: to destroy "Zalem"/Tiphares and to assassinate/kill/execute Desty Nova 3. forgot who she was: her name (Yoko is her real name), her past, and etc There's no orange (fruit) trees and no cacoa (chocolate) trees on Mars, so that's why Alita didn't know how to eat an orange and didn't know what chocolate was. Also, despite Alita having been around for a long time, it's really just her nature/personality to be interested in humanity, as she cares so deeply about humanity, so that's why she was just so fascinated with everything, she wanted to learn about the earthians, their society, and their technology, literally being an alien martian to planet earth, seeing it for her first time (as she didn't have much time to "sight see" during "The Fall", as her URM unit had to get up to "Zalem"/Tiphares to destroy it and to assassinate/kill/execute Desty Nova, lol). There's no stupid "born again" american trope going on with Alita at all. This is japanese manga, not stupid american krap media themes for stupid americans. Alita (her real name is Yoko) was born fully human on Mars, but in her early childhood, something happened to her, she had her entire body destroyed / very badly damaged, to cause her to be fully cyberized, in order to keep her alive. Alita is now a cyborg, having a human brain, her human brain. Alita would then eventually join the URM military, and would become one of their best soldiers, a Berserker, given the Berserker Body/Suit and the anti-matter (or whatever) power core (her "heart"), needed to power her Berserker Body/Suit, along with learning Panzer Kunst too, and let’s just say, Alita was apart of “unifying” Mars into URM (United Republic of Mars), and then of course, was apart of the attack on earth in “The Fall” (The Terraforming Wars), on a TOP PRIORITY mission, to destroy Zalem/Tiphares and to assassinate/kill Desty Nova, with her other Berserkers, URM’s most elite fighting force, but they unfortunately failed to do both of those things

Rodriquez actually did one of the most perfect translations of the source comic in Sin City, its wild how exact it is. he is too good at putting the page on the screen.

You will absolutely love *_Equilibrium_* (2002). A cool Sci-fi/Action film with _Christian Bale._ You will flip at the combat sequences.

Yes, Rosa Salazar played Alita, entirely with voice and motion capture so she was there on set the whole time.

There's an animated version of the movie that came out years and years ago before the live-action. I haven't seen it yet but I heard it was pretty good

There was an anime OAV but it basically covered all the same things as this movie. The manga did have a lot more though. More Motorball.

So this movie is a James Cameroon production. I believe he was the one who negotiated the rights for the movie from the creator and from what I've read the ONLY reason why the other movies have been delayed is because he's busy with Avatar. He physically can't manage the two right now and those movies are his priority, but I'm like dude, okay, filming a movie is a lot, we understand that and clearly you don't mind not directing it as the first one was directed by Rodriguez, so all you need to do is work on who oversees things for you as the producer. Get a dozen assistants together, have meetings, delegate, work it out, please! We need the sequel! 😭

James Cameron is working on the sequels. He always intended them and they will happen. Alita grew up on Mars hundreds of years before. As such, there's a possibility she never even tasted an orange or chocolate before. She's lost much of her memories, or more exactly, they're fragmented and buried in her brain which was basically on life-support mode for a long time. Now, how she came to be there in that scrapyard, I won't spoil that. The movies may end up having a different story for that than the manga did.

This movie wasn’t successful because most people hated the fact that it was done exactly as the Alita anime movie but I honestly I loved this movie

She has a human brain, so cranial nerves are probably intact, including the olfactory nerve for processing smell, so the working nose makes sense in environmental experience terms.

A sequel is confirmed but that about it.

Cyberpunk 2077 is story being told about a specific person, just like The Witcher or a book, you can only follow that story, if you wanne create own characters, play MMO's or single player games that are created that way like Baldur's Gate... 😅😸

No sequel yet , we need more RU-vidrs like your self, watching it to keep the IP alive in the media eyes and keep it relative and to let Disney know how we feel and need the sequels , and not the stuff no one actually asked for like the new Marvel trash.

Cameron should have worked on Alita movies not Avatar. But if Disney doing it, I don't care anymore, I will be satisfied with this movie and the manga.

Originally planned for 3 movies but the FOX/Disney merger plays a part among other things that have happened. The Alita Army and other groups and fans have carried this movie. There was a rotten Tomatoes incident too(long story) and then the Captain Marvel outcome (even a longer story) Alita the only sequel deserving story but instead we are getting unwanted prequels and sequels, reboots and remakes and regurgitating origin stories have all gotten ridiculous. Alita Battle Angel 2 & 3 are possible. You know this is being done by James Cameron? There have been some TV shows or movies that have reconstructed a person's mind using information from archives, the web, personal computers, etc... Audio files for voice, etc. I am not sure but maybe Star Trek and maybe The Orville might have done this. Why does she need food? Living brain maybe? Guyver? It's been like 20 years since I watched that anime. I think the critic's problem was they wanted it to be woke.
