If you don’t want to go through the effort of watching the over 90 films to win the Best Picture award, look no further. In this first part of my movie watching saga, you will learn about and hear my take on the first 32 movies to win the coveted Best Picture award. Off first glance, the years of 1927-1959 sounds like a pretty boring time for movies, but trust me, there’s some real heat in this batch of films. Enjoy as I break down the first definitive era of the Best Picture award winners.

The "it's an old movie, spoilers are okay" logic has always been so weird to me. Specially in the internet age where you don't need to watch movies (or shows) at the same time as other people (as you would if they were on cinemas or TV). Not everyone watches every film or TV show.

One big trend I noticed among these wins is genre favoritism. Of course almost all the winners are mainstream, big budget Hollywood crowd-pleasers, but even within that the Oscars in this period seem to have been dead set on locking out many of the most popular film genres. War movies, biopics, musicals, and dramas dominated. Meanwhile the 1930s produced a large quantity of classic horror (Frankenstein, Dracula) and gangster movies (Scarface, White Heat), the '40s saw the rise of film noir (The Maltese Falcon, Double Indemnity), and the '50s were a golden age for sci-fi (The Day the Earth Stood Still, Invasion of the Body Snatchers) and Westerns (High Noon, The Searchers). None of these "low-brow" genres stood much of a chance in the Best Picture race. Hitchcock was also cranking out all-time classic mystery and suspense films like Vertigo and Rear Window in this period, but only Rebecca, which could be a romantic drama if you squint, took home the gold.

From the very first minute I knew that this video was gonna be special. The presentation, those little editing details, the way you confidently look at the camera, the 'zoomerisms' (From sleeper to slaper). It does not got unnoticed how much you put on the video. It was so enjoyable that I also watched your Call Of Duty videos even when I had zero interest on that franchise. Great job! Anyways, I would recommend to you to watch Sunrise (1927). If we count that one as a Best Picture winner I would put it as one of the very best.

The piano playing friend of Gene Kelly is Hoagy Carmichael, who wrote ‘Stardust’. He appeared in ‘The Best Years of Our Lives’ and was portrayed in a Flintstone episode.

I agree with many you loved, and nice to see someone else doesn't like From Here to Eternity. One more It Happened One Night notable: Bugs Bunny's character and carrot chomping is based on Clark Gable's character. And the only reason there was slim pickings in 1955 is because Night of the Hunter didn't get nominated, which is consistent because film noir should have won many times (like 1944.)
