Minecraft was really popular from 2009-2012, but then Minecraft had several small updates that no one really liked, and Minecraft lost popularity and was looked at as a kid’s game. 5 years later, in 2017, Philza, a streamer, died in his 5-year old hardcore world, and Pewdiepie started his let’s play series, which gave Minecraft popularity again. Minecraft started to introduce better updates, such as the ocean, nether, and Caves & Cliffs.

I think the main reason Minecraft randomly became popular out of nowhere was that after a long time of bad updates they added like 3 great ones in a row

For Minecraft query, It was a reddit post about someone who died in a hardcore minecraft world (You die once, its over) after 5 years of streaming. He wad relatively unpopular beforehand but the reddit post went viral and popped up in European news channels. Felix started a Minecraft lets play to combat T Series rapid growth in the PewDiePie vs T Series subscriber race. The nostalgia drive that people had also boosted by Minecract Monday (an event where people play Minecract Hunger games and later on many different minigames in Minecraft, by Keemstar alongside Fortnite Friday). Covid kept people in their homes and back to their nostalgia lane, the dream impact through Minecraft, But challenges and Minecraft manhunt (Dream speedruns the game while his friends hunt him down) and the dsmp kept Minecraft on top.

For minecraft it used to be kinda popular up until roughly 2016 but then it became popular again in 2019 its hard to say why it became popular again but there's a few reasons that I can point out Fortnite was kind of at it's peak but at the same time there were hundreds of memes going "so glad I grew up with Minecraft and not Fortnite. Like those memes were everywhere on any meme compilation channel/reddit for at least a few months Jschlatt posted a video called "A tribute to Minecraft" which only fueled the nostalgia Pewdiepie finally did his own Minecraft Lets Play All of that led to SMPLIVE and Minecraft Monday which consisted of a SMP with like 50 streamers in it and a weekly Minecraft tournament with big names like PewDiePie Ninja XQC James Charles (and Dream funny enough even though he only became relevant 2 years after)à And then it was a chain reaction up until the Dream SMP which was the most recent peak, its slowly going downhill again though.
