Why couldn’t he have just, you know, go and gotten an actual walrus? It seems like less trouble to attain an actual walrus, than surgically altering a human being to look like a walrus, when walrus’s are an actual thing that still exists.

i havent seen the movie personally (just not interested. i know medical people and research medical topics as a hobby so its hard not to get too nitpicky even with what ive seen in reviews) but what i have seen others say because this is a reasonable question anyone would ask at first is that his mr. tusk was more human than other walruses. that is hearsay tho so maybe he just thought it would be fun who knows..

@@nyassaisleaving990The old mans reasons and ideals are absolutely ridiculous but i think the premise is actually horrifying. Its ridiculous when you see Wallace suddenly morphed into a weird human Waleus hybrid but hes not... He's a human mutilated and stuffed into a walrus suit made of human skin being held captive by a man with a *Walrus* fetish. You can alter it a little and have a true S tier horror film. You can have a dude have an obsession with someone and their obsession goes beyond that of affection and adoration but its a perverse love. They kidnap someone, they mutilate someone, so they cant fight back, sew their mouth shut so they cant complain (but its reversable, so maybe they wont mind anymore and the weirdo will reverse it, and you can see how far gone they are) and explore how far the body mutilation goes. The body mutilation went pretty quickly in this movie but if it took longer, and you can see the person slowly degrading you can see them become something entirely different that would be horrific.

I am a glutton for body-horror. I love the stuff, especially when it deals with metamorphoses and utilises practical effects. Cronenberg's "The Fly", John Carpenter's "The Thing", Kostanski's and Gillespie's "The Void"... I saw "Tusk" once. I don't want to ever see it again, and the only thing that soothes the pain is watching others share in the trauma. I’ve always been partial to the detail that the walrus suit body mods are totally reversible (as the corpses are de-walrused *before* being dumped - which implies the walrus hide is stitched on like couch upholstery, and can be removed as such, and not fused to the body.) Anyways. His friends know this. He just sucks so bad they choose to keep him like this. The movie never brings this up again.

@mysteriousnonamegirl7685
@mysteriousnonamegirl7685 2 года назад
@@alisaurus4224 no idea!! That’s horrifying, isn’t it? However, when wearing the walrus suit, the villain had the same bulk as Wallace, and he was able to rip through it like paper (or flesh) without encountering any barriers, so I think the movie literally forgot to account for that. I’m going to assume though that it’s murder victim meat padding the costume, but I think that’s putting more thought into it than the movie did. I think hypothetically with the right surgery, you could unanchor the arms the same way they were anchored, but honestly, it’s been like… years since I’ve seen this! So, I’ll take your word for it :)) but IRL disabled people exist and have good lives without full arm mobility (also without legs) so I guess Wallace’s biggest issue would be mental trauma, after a lot of OT and physical therapy. I have a frustrating relationship with this film. On one hand, it’s a bizarre body horror that’s genuinely disturbing and unforgettable. On the other hand, it feels like the movie just gave up after he became a walrus. It was an abrupt leap from losing his leg to being sewn into the suit. Then there wasn’t too much to do with him at that point until his awful friends find him. The horror and comedy was so unbalanced that I got whiplash half the time. Smith didn’t help this by keeping scenes too long that didn’t progress anything. And I’m still not over that overly ridiculous ending that went for an emotion it didn’t earn. I wanted to like this movie. Teenage me was so excited to see this film as I was learning that I really liked body horror stories. But for every thing I like about it, there’s something else keeping me from loving it.

I think it could’ve been effective to show at least a couple of stages of the walrus transformation, with Justin waking up more and more mutilated each time. He would scream and swear and beg the surgeon not to do any more, promise him money, emptily threaten him with revenge etc. until finally he wakes up with tusks in his mouth and can no longer speak at all

So, fun fact. I'd always heard of this movie. I heard that it was weird and that Johnny Depp was somehow involved. But I'd never seen it. At least not all the way through. I remember flipping through channels and seeing it on tv shortly after it had first come out though. It was always bits and pieces and it always just seemed weird and not really scary so I just never watched, even though it was on different streaming channels. And then I watched youtube reactions of it. And that's how I discovered what all happens. All I know is that Kevin Smith's brain is really interesting. Frightening, but interesting.

So as a Québécoise, the story about Duplessis orphans the old dude told about is surprisingly accurate, that's a disturbing part of Quebec history. However, Johnny Depp's portrait of a quebec detective is straight up offensive, caliss de tabarnak. And idk why Lachute has the Mexican filter on. Kevin Smith's love of Canada shows throughout this movie, but every now and then he's also risking being drowned in a barrel of maple syrup.

The thing is Smith in some ways improved over time. When you watched Clarks you see that he doesn't movie the camera and it felt mostly flat. It wasn't until later that he really tried to give his shoot some style and moved the camera. The only movie of his I have seen that hasn't felt like somewhat of improvement was the last Jay and Silent Bob flick which felt a bit lifeless.
