Some people would call this pointless. Not me though, this is the material I enjoy most. Improvisation and using stuff in ways they weren't meant to be used. Two thumbs up👍👍
Curious decision by Apple to route the trackpad connector exactly over the hottest part of the Mac. They could’ve chosen any path really but no, “let’s see if we can melt the connector and cause a technical issue that needs fixing over time”. You’ve got to love Apple, haven’t you?
I thought that too when I hooked up the FLIR camera and saw the exact location of the actual chip. The cable isn't glued to the logic board so there's a bit of a gap, and the actual heat coming from the chip won't be enough to melt it (I think). But still - really weird decision, it should have been just as easy to route it slightly off to the side instead...
@@OnlyCitrus weird because I've never had heating problems this entire time. I use my laptop in bed and never heating or feels weird. I like my room really cool though. So.. I don't know why your laptop is overheating
You guys do a great job posing questions, solutions, and testing them out. Thankfully, there are plenty of liquid cooling kits out there, designed to handle the strain and heat from high-end PC components and keep your temperatures low and your FPS high. PS: Goodbye to the warranty though, "if you start to experience irregularities on daily use, you're on your own🥺".
Too bad apple doesn't give the user the ability to increase the clock speeds of Apple Silicon... would be interesting to see how far this chip could go before overwhelming the AIO.
The bottom cover is off. Not really accurate that alone will keep it much cooler. A friend of mine took the bottom case off had it diamond cut right below where the processor is. It is now slotted and he used a thin mesh on the inside. Because of these tiny slotted holes cut in the perfect area it lets a lot of heat out with no fan and his MacBook Air reduced heat by 40%. The problem with these laptops is there is no way for heat to escape. Apple needs to fix this or be sued over it. They get so hot you can't even tolerate these toasters on your lap after a while. So he is running 40% cooler just by adding some little slots at the bottom. Amazing all apple had to do is put some vents in there. Terrible what they have done. And all of of these tests are crazy nobody looking at the simple fact. If you have heat completely enclosed with no where to go you will have problems. Apple wants you to believe this is okay when its not. It will destroy the batteries and the electronics in no time. Good luck.
It's more and more clear why Apple left the old MBP13 around - didn't make much sense in the M1 era, but with mainly the M2 GPU performance it seems more of a stepping stone between Air and base MBP14. Would be nice if Apple figured out a way of optional partial better M2 Air back heat dissipation - warmer back option with some pads pre-installed :)
Apple said in interviews around release that the M2 MB Air was not for sustained performance. They advised the MB Pro 13 M2 was there for that. Most people in the real world understand this, but, sadly, techies on YT seem to think that a fanless ultrabook should be a performance giant! Weird!
@@andyH_England I can safely say I haven't seen a SINGLE video where this MacBook is touted as a "performance giant". Sure, some channels might push it to the extreme, but that is simply for fun and to find the limitations. No one is under the assumption that the MacBook Air is a good option for extremely demanding workflows.
@@CreatedTech Glad to hear that. However, many comments seem to be very disappointed with the thermals, and that I can only place at the blame of the videos out there. It may be all good fun, but from what I read it is quite misleading to those watching.
@@andyH_England Ah, well thermals are another topic altogether... I can agree with you there, and it's all because of one particular video from a channel I won't name...
Could you combine a copper coil with thermal pads on the inside and still cool it well with a system like this snapped onto the external cover with a magnet?
Great project. My take - M2 MBA is not a productivity machine. It's designed for web/e-mail and light tasks. If you want more than that, you need a fan. Nothing wrong with that. It's just the target market - and it will sell like hotcakes. I'm not a buyer but I appreciate what Apple has done with it.
Oh no! Theres basically no mounting pressure!! 65° on a 10W chip with a 240mm AIO is terrible! Would be great if you did a more secure mount in another video. Apart from that the video was really good :)
This video like all the other shows how good M2 chip will be with good cooling when the Pro's comes around, but RU-vidrs where doing this when the M1 came out repeating the same thing over and over this problem of over heating will sort of stop when Apple make the M chips use the same power consumption as that like the iPhones and iPads, well all fanless laptops overheats and throttle down when over work 🔥🔥
This shows you that people are really looking towards a cheap laptop with a high performance chip to use as a non portable machine at home for heavier use
Seems to me like people should just pick up the Macbook Pro, even with the price higher.. I love my 2020 M1 macbook pro, it has and still handles anything I've thrown at it.. So I know that M2 has to be bad to to the bone!
Hi can any one tell me that There are any SSD speed change in 2020 M1 MacBook Air and 2022 M1 macbook air??? I want to buy M1 MacBook Air now so I want to know that the same M2 base model SSD problem come in M1 base model mac
Can you expand on these tests and graphs - 1. m2 air with thermal pad to bottom plate mod 2. m2 air with thermal pad to bottom plate mod plus laptop cooler
I have a M1 Air, thinking about giving it to my father and getting a M2 air, but I can only afford the 256GB. In the future I want to learn about programming on a university, that's the only "power" use i would utilize. Will I regret?
Another rubbish about the MacBook Air is that it’s thinner than the wedge shaped model. That is garbage. The previous generation is still thinner. The new MacBook Pro and the Air looks like a chiseled box
this videos are such nonsenses. the m2 MacBook Air doesn't run hot on the tasks its made for. The MacBook Air is made and marketed only for Daily use and School use. it's not advertised for Gaming or any other heavy workload. Period
Bro the thermal throttling is not the MacBook airs biggest issue I wish you would stop pushing this idea. The laptop is not meant for 8k video editing or long session’s of gaming. If that’s what you want to do. I say this because there people in IT that try to get these amazing laptops adopted by their company as a business laptop, but the company for some reason *cough cough* thinks the laptops are inherently broken and can’t run Microsoft word without overheating.
Chill out, it's just a title for a silly video... I've made multiple videos debunking the M2 MacBook Air thermals and I am certainly NOT "pushing this idea".
