The 2024 total solar eclipse was amazing! We had planned to view it for a while, but at the last minute I added some very amateur radio astronomy to the mix. While I didn't necessarily get any real scientific data, I definitely attracted a lot of questions at the campsite!

It wasn't the interference going down... it was the F layers rising up, and the D layer absorption ending... look at the dB meter, signals went *up*! Effects are best when the umbra is *between* you and your contact, affecting the bounce zone you're using. Very cool that you got to see it, the clouds were merciful for us here in Texas... a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You have to become a jet-setter to see the next one in New Zealand in a few years.

NOAA 15 has the weakest signal and is probably the most challenging. NOAA 18 seems to be the best one. The decoding can take a long time depending on how long you recorded, with Satdump I just let it sit for a while and think to itself, it should go back to the main screen once it's finished.
