Apple stores throw their stuff away in clear bags to avoid theft and usually the boxes and all apple parts go into separate bins for recycling. Mall stores might be a little different.

Hi Sarah, just though I would let you know that people pay crazy amounts for apple boxes, I saw a iPhone 13 box sell for $30 the other day so if you want to get your full moneys worth try selling the boxes :)

Sarah, you should definitely file a back charge with your credit card company or bank and they will dispute it, and if the seller does not agree, the bank will take them to court for fraud.
