The sharks are in remembrance of a cruiser named Justin Shearer who passed away while test driving a motorcycle with his fiance a long time ago. He had been friends Mikael and a number of other musicians over the years. He was the nicest dude. One year he had too much fun with a similar shark, and it ended up being used as a symbol on a patch that was made in his memory. I ended up with a shark during that set, myself. Mikael gave it a hug and passed it back to me lmao The Halo Effect and Blind Guardian in the Theater were two of my favorite sets of the boat this year, too. Excellent.
I live in Miami, and the prices are why I never go out to do anything. You will be hard pressed to find a greater collection of jerks on the road. The parking alone is a coin toss on if you are going to be spending a small Is fortune.
I worked on the 70.000 Tons cruise in 2020. I mean I worked on Independence of the Seas so I was lucky enough to attend 6 music charter cruises. So I was chatting with my colleagues from the dining rooms and they were so at ease. Nobody complaining about anything. One of my friends even said that he brought wrong food on some table, the people ate it, and left to enjoy the music. The worst were the guests from the Capital Jazz FM Cruise, they were even complaining if the glass for water wasn't polished enough.
@@tonchie23I tried to explain this to some non metal head friends about the fact that because we listen to extreme music, we can get our aggravations out in a healthy safe way so we dont have to behave like dicks to everyone else. They weren't convinced *shrugs*
The actual Royal Caribbean staff have said many times over the years they look forward to this event every year because everyone is so genuinely decent and polite to them. A few even are even metal fans.
Great job, man! All hail The Algorithm for connecting my love of metal to my wife's love of watching cruise vloggers. Actually a better cruise review than most of the full-time folks, my friend!
It's basically a music festival without the parts that suck. Can crash out in your bunk if you're getting tired, everyone has a shower which means there's no excuse to stink, it's priced so that people who can afford it know to be on their best behavior without being snobby, everyone has a shower which means there's no excuse to stink, you're able to actually mingle with the artists since they can't really leave the boat when they're doen, and best of all, everyone has a shower which means there's no excuse to stink.
I went on a normal cruise it was pretty whack. Metal cruise would be dope. I met only 1 other metalhead on that cruise of 4500 people. I wore band shirts and just got dirty looks from grumpy old people.
Awesome video! We did Headbanger's Boat and it was a very similar experience. Day 1, the staff looked terrified. By Day 4, the staff were wearing metal tees and banging heads along with us. It was magical.
Wyatt, watching all your festival videos made me want to go to europe for my first fest there... so i booked it! doing rockstadt in a few months and excited is an understatement! thanks for the inspiration my guy! Travelling all the way from Australia too
metal heads do smell. so rude to not wear deoderant and then sweat all over people. dont think ive been in one pit where a clear neglect of deoderant isnt a thing
I was lucky enough to go on the first 70K back in 2011... would love to go again. The crew had never witnessed such a spectacle before, and were kind of shell-shocked, but when they realized that metalheads are generally really awesome, they lightened up. Glad to see it's still going strong today!
This video is making me want to go on another metal cruise!!! I went on the 2nd Motorhead Motorboat in 2015 and it was the greatest festival experience I've ever had!!!!
Mean video dude. I've always wanted to go on the 70k ToM, that shit looks amazing. I live in New Zealand, and I'd need to win the lottery to be able to afford it. The Tulminator line up looks epic, well done getting on the list. Cheers mate Keep it metal 🤘🏽
I've been looking forward to this. You did a great job! It sounds like you had a most excellent time on 70k. The funny thing is that a lot of what you said could apply to me and The 80s Cruise. Music cruises are a lot of fun. I recommend them to those who can find a compatible genre. I look forward to the other parts of your video and another set of videos for Headbangers Boat? Maybe??
I was always taught that the way a person treats hospitality staff speaks volumes as to that person's character. Also as an Australian: 15:02 They made you drink Fosters WTF? You poor bastards.
Great summary and recap. Loving the video dude. Next year, we definitely need to meet up. We have so many friends in common with whom I hang out on the boat, it's a miracle we never actually met.
Thanks for this video. I've gone 5 times now and honestly my interest in going are dwindling more and more by the year. That being said, you're video has sparked much nostalgia in me, and rekindled my interest in the boat with new vigor. I also liked your comments regarding how respectful metalheads are with the staff, as well as the first Blind Guardian set; you're description of remembering teenager years and crying on Bard Song were spot on with my take. Thanks again, and maybe see you next year when we go to Jamaica.
I went to this year’s SNW and during Danny Elfman’s set, i lost my phone. Was stressing so much and actually missed BMTH and 15 minutes of Slipknot’s set (included with everyone else who performed). Also asked 17 workers/security where lost and found was and no one knew. Finally the 18th guy knew but i was just 100 feet beside it when i asked. Other than that it was amazing
I would love to go to 70 000 tons, especially after seeing my school teachers in this video (the guys from blind guardian and Epica). Unfortunately it's a long trip from the Netherlands to Miami.
I was on that cruise. Really fun, up all night and crawl to the pool the next morning. Lots of good lookin ladies. I don’t remember which night it was but I saw Ted Nugent on one of the stages and wonder why he’s not in the video?
Your comment about metal fans being polite and respectful brought back the memories from some of the concerts I went to. Most of the time I had to book a hotel to attend. The extra fun was the breakfast the day after the concert. I never found any loud or obnoxious metal fans at the breakfast buffet. But they mixed very nicely with the slightly confused and surprised regular crowd, being businessmen and women in their suits. A sight to remember......
I've never been on a cruise, mainly because of the majority of old boomer types is off-putting to me, but I would go on this one since it is more my scene
The fact is when metalheads get together in large crowd, there tend to be much less violence, rape, and general assholery compared to pop music concerts and especially soccer matches. soccer fans are just animals...
@@wyattsmetal From the snippets I've seen on YT Blind Guardian played some Songs off of God machine at their 70k shows. It seems to have been Blood of the elves for both Sets Delivers us from evil Pool Deck Set Violent Shadows theatre set Secrets of the American gods theatre set If you liked those I recon you'd like the album.
Looks fun, my mom won tickets to a cruise, I mostly just stay in my room only occasionally going out to eat, didn't much care for the activities, this looks way more cool
I was told that the shark thing with the Halo Effect was that there was a cruiser who died that used to dress up as a shark and Dark Tranquility was his favorite band. Since Mikael was on the boat with the Halo Effect people had inflatable sharks in honor of their friend.
Not Boring if I'm on it , only got on a plane once and promise no one said it was boring , landing 5 min after takeoff to put me off pissed a few off but not at all boring .
only remember first 2 min , someone behind me choked me out , he saved us , had no clue I was slap terrified of heights , no clue I just freaked out and I'm quiet shy dude never speaks or make a scene even when I should, and had been drinking a bit , a lot okay !
Wait a minute, did they misspell Heidevolk as Hedivolk? Also, this summer, I'm going to Wacken's cruise (Full Metal Cruise), and this vid was recommended by YT, so yea, thought I'd watch a video to see what the vibe of a metal cruise is like :)
You really should. This was my first time and it was one of the coolest things I've ever done. Even getting a really bad fever the first night (I stayed in a hostel in Miami Beach and one of the guys in my room was sick) and being sick for most of the cruise didn't put a damper on it. My biggest regret is not doing it sooner, TBH. It's heavy metal summer camp on a cruise ship.
So I saw tickets range from 1200 to 5000. Can’t find info on extra details, what does 1200 get you? And which ticket did you choose, I’d love to have my own room xD and not have to share it with a random person.
I’ve been 3 times in the cruise and it’s a hell of an experience. For this year I had to sell my spot cause my dad passed away very unexpectedly and I have my little brother with me but next year I’m taking him. He’s disabled but he enjoys metal 🤘🏻
A friend of mine sold literally everything he owned to go on the 2011 trip. We all made fun of him for doing something so irresponsible. He came back and said it was worth it. He died a year later in a rollover accident on the highway (tire blowout, he was a passenger). The cruise was the trip of his life.
Yep. Fuck the Star Lounge. I’m a 3 time 70K attendee, attempted to watch one show in 2020 (my first cruise), haven’t been back since. I don’t care if Jesus himself is playing in the tightest metal band ever assembled, not going if they play there lol.
