It’s frustration. Many of them have been living in the central area for generations and it’s gone from a local quiet place to a tourist trap nightmare. Add on the fact that people buy apartments there and rent them Out as an air bnb reducing the number of apartments available for long term rental while also increasing the prices way above local salaries and people are just exasperated by it. I think the water pistol episode was a way to get it in the news ( which it did). It’s definitely not a regular occurrence.

Barcelona’s main sights really are not compatible for last minute trips - well worth the effort to visit though. Sagrada Familia is simply insane inside.

Brings back memories of a collage art trip. We were suppose to go to the gaudi cathedral but got too drunk the night before - ended up trying to find it ourselves and going around a completely different cathedral with all the locals looking at us wired. Good times :)

Great video! We had the same problem when we went to Parc Guell in May, walked for what felt like miles uphill and then couldn't get in! However it's a stunning city and we'll definitely go back...but book everything in advance this time! I recommend seeing some flamenco dancing. 💃
Flamenco is from Andalusia. What you'll get in BCN will be tourist tat that doesn't respect local cultural traditions. This is why tourists are not popular.

Oh lord. When I heard you were going to park gruel on the bike - I scoffed and said it all uphill- he won’t cycle that 😂 Our first trip we went to Sagrada familla- couldn’t get in… did ur hike to the park and couldn’t get in, both sold out. Then go bus back to city centre and almost got crushed, got off after 2 stops!! Still a fab city!
Englishman living in Barcelona here, the Catalans get such a bad rap. I think they are super friendly and warm even if their manner can seem a bit rough and ready.
To be honest, I’d say Catalonians are hard work, a bit overly proud and dare I say, obnoxious. Barcelona as a city is decent for a one time trip but not really worth revisiting.
The #1 Restaurant in the world for 2024 was just named as one in Barcelona lol, not gonna help keep tourist numbers down... I'm going to Barcelona next summer just to east there.
