Someone ought to write a book about Squires, it goes back decades. I think it's the pre-eminent bikers meet in the whole U.K. I used to go to the original one in the centre of Sherburn in the early 1970's. It was a tremendous business decision when they moved to this new place in the eighties (I think). LOADS of land and the building used to be a Pub originally, I still think they have a alcohol license, not that you'll see any of the bikers drinking alcohol. At the old place, if you arrived early, you were going home late because all following arrivals blocked you in and were backed up to the main road. The old Squires is now a private dwelling.
Hi Danny. They may well be simple dishes but sometimes simple is the best. The Turkey Bun looks delicious. I can just imagine riding in on a brisk day and grabbing some of that scrumptious food. Keep up the videos mate. Cheers from the Land of Beers (Down Under Oz). Take care.
I have been going there since 1969, it was in the village center back then. So many people that it basically overran the village. The new cafe was a pub. The place is very inclusive and always has been, you can go in a tractor if you like.
"Always get some idiots on the road" says the man who is driving 40 in a 60. And the bike didn't even have to slow down. He's complaining over nothing.
OMG ! Now am a simple Canadian man who married into a British family(her parents and two oldest sisters) so don't know a ton about English cuisine. never in my days have I heard or seen Yorkshire pudding used as the bowl for beef stew
Heard you mention it a few videos back and hope it's good! Made the near 2 hour journey up there a few years back for a Ford meet as there is usually one or two every year and I think they also hold Japanese car nights as well. Big biker presence even when those car shows are on and some pretty interesting roads to drive too
OK, Danny, Squires Cafe in the centre of Sherburn-in-Elmet was established in 1954, I used to fequent the place on my motorcycle fortyish years ago for a bacon butty and a pint pot of tea . The place was so popular with bikers that eventually it had three car parks around the cafe. The pub was purchased in 2002 and the original cafe was sold, that meant that the good residents of Sherburn could have some peace and quiet after decades of noisy, smelly motorcycles rumbling through their village. It's great to see that Squires is doing well, I keep meaning to take a trip over there from my home in Halifax, it's not too far after all. Thanks for reviewing Squires, I like the look of that turkey and gravy teacake, I'll have to sample one when I'm there in the springtime.
I'm a Welsh woman born and bred (Barry) living in Sturgis, South Dakota USA 20 plus years watching this during the biggest motorcyle rally in the world (which I happen to live right in the middle of). Quite surreal...Cheers!
Oh Danny, Think I’d jump on my 1000cc Honda and ride down from Scotland to scoff a plate of that stew! Looked bloody lovely! What a cracking place! Great vid as usual.👍👏👏👏😊🏴🏴
Loved the Vespa cos am a ex scooter boy big respect to all of the bikers, loved having riffs with them back in the day but we all grow up eventually and respect each other, looks absolutely fantastic food and excellent review as always, keep well and safe.
the original one was the Milk Cafe in Sherburn , the pub they moved in Newthorpe used to be called The New Inn , my family come from Newthorpe , were millers at the Newthorpe Mill for centuries and butchers in Sherburn , love the place
If there's any type of food that I could live on for a whole week it would be yorkshire puddings I absolutely love yorkshire puddings. Whether the puddings are just with gravy or filled with roast beef or with sausages (aka toad in the hole) or even both with gravy then now we're talking. Another good video Danny 👍
@@christophermitchell6307 homemade are better as they have the softer texture but yeh even frozen ones are good. Doesn't matter the brand, I just buy cheapest available, brand names are just the same. Those large ones are good to buy and fill with your chosen filling.
PROBABLY pickled pearlskin onions; the little ones. I'VE had them in a beef stew or corned beef hash before; can be accompanied by pickled cabbage too.
Used to go all the time Dan not been for a while with the weather but nice food mate and the prices are about there but it's all home cooked stuff lovely
Good, solid food for the that price. I was just about to write it had that home-cooked feel to it when Danny said it. Slightly surprised the bikers didn't recognise Danny more.
Only round corner from where i work, I used to go quite often they have car meets on certain days of the month. also have car shows in the back feild and gigs with live music. great place to hang out with friends on summers day. We used to get the cornish pastie and chips. Food looked good and who dont like a big yorkshire pudding with mashed potatoes and sausages and gravy
Saw you in Selby, typical I had to fall downstairs and fractured my back or id of been there. Squire's used to be a restaurant/pub 29 years ago where me and my hubby started our relationship. Sadly he passed due to covid and cancer 3 years ago but this place holds many a memory for alot of locals. Sas I couldn't meet you 😔
@@veg4life. Hi. Dripping is from Bovine animals normally beef fat rendered to "dripping" which is its english trade name. The same people love "ghee" also which is butter hot melted and cooked until it reduces and has a nutty flavour to taste....both highly sought after ingredients.
That’s a Beef bourguignon at a quality price! I’ve made something similar in my Dutch oven at home. Might try it with Yorkshire puddings next time I cook it!!
That was an easy 10, looked so much better than quite a lot of the other muck you rate (burger, kebab, pizza) i love all 3 but come on dude, mix it up a bit.
16.54 in,is that a fart or a train ?!😂😂😂 always been good Scran, great venue for all bikes, but old spot when it was milk bar was fantastic, down near village,
The yorkie and stew looked really good. The turkey sando with chips looked good as well. I'd have preferred the option of the turkey sando with lettuce and tomato and then a few slices of tinned cranberry sauce.
Back in day think it was called New Inn x There was a Charlie Chalks which was a kids play centre x Spent many a leisurely Sunday there … when kids were small x They’re grown up now x
I make a similar Yorkshire pudding dish with corned beef, tinned veg and the devils sweetcorn, bang it in the oven make some mustard mash put mash on top of corned beef with cheese on top grill it put it all in the Yorkshire pudding with lashings of bisto gravy.
Not sure everyone would be on board but a nice little sticker with Danny's face with a thumbs-up and a QR code linked to the video would probably do a lot of places good.
Looks like they cook that turkey and then keep it warm in the gravy, looked so good, will try that at Christmas to stop my turkey going like an Arabs flip flop! 😂
