I am almsot able to visit a BRAND NEW shopping mall every week in Russia. OdiPark is about 45 minutes from my house, so I had to go and check out somewhere very local to where I live. Even though a lot of the mall wasn't 100% open yet. It is still interesting to see the investment in Shopping malls in Russia in 2024. Are new malls opening you live in the world?
It is somewhat ironic that one can buy almost any Western brand or good in Russia most of which at a fraction of their home prices but Russian goods are very expensive in the West.
I am from Melbourne and this is how exactly Australian shopping Malls look like...! One level shopping Mall, very big car park, even the design of the car park resembles Australia one. !
One level malls here are normal too - but only for suburban locations where land cost allows, like this one. It's 15 km west of Moscow city ring road, west end of Odintsovo.

There is Decathlon in London and it is identical to the shop you showed in this video. And in London the same problem with Decathlon. They are in a difficult location, not on high street, not even in busy useful parts of London. You have to travel far just for this shop. I think I've been there once, and unlikely I will go there again. LOL. Just for this one shop on the outskirts... I guess for those doing a lot of sports it is a trip worth making. Prices there generally lower than on high street.
It's crazy that when you walked in the store obviously recording, the associates said and did nothing and let you film. In the USA, once someone sees you recording in a store, they will immediately accost you and call the police. You will then be trespassed from the store. It's fucking insane
Love your videos. I find out so much about Russia while being a Russian living outside of Russia. Call me a bot if you want and i will reply.. bots however do not :)
I really enjoyed the video, Russell maybe you would consider a Halloween themed video, that would be so cool ? I have heard there’s some Russians that dress up for Halloween , just a thought.
Looks like the only thing sanctions accomplished was to hurt the brands that took their products out of Russia, other brands replace them took the sales revenue! Great job! 😂
I have a robot vacuum, it is a nice little helper. Except that i have a dog and a cat and their fur is everywhere, so you have to stop it ever so often and clean up the container. Pretty good at wet cleaning though. Also i did a little trick with its voice pack and not it swears left and right as it works. Calls me a 'leather bastard'
That Desport looks like the Best Buy of a sporting goods store. Same blue color and on the tv screen @4:01 looks like Best Buy's trademark yellow price tag they use on their logo and ads on their products.
One (110g) bar of Alenka chocolate costs $ 5.00 dollars in the US (if you buy a set of three for $ 15.00). And if you think that is just import sanctioning, think again. German chocolate is just as expensive and French chocolate runs between 10 and 20 dollars a bar. Swedish Marabou is also up there per bar but their bars are bigger.
@@Shushka2010 that is a little more than in Germany but a lot less than in the US. Jacobs coffee and Milka chocolate seem to cost the same or less in Russia than in Germany. The Alpengold chocolate is a Stollwerk brand licenced to a Russian manufacturer. Stollwerk is the German manufacturer of Schogetten. And Alpengold is significantly cheaper than all German chocolate brands I know of.
You got there a bit early, in a few months it might have a lot more stores open. The shops that opened on time have no shortages, as usual the sanctions hurt the sanctioners the most. The market is always a great place to shop, the cheese and that honey stall would have made sales to me.👍
In the sports store, they did give me a few looks. After I finished that part, I explained about my video and the channel, and they were totally ok with it. But for a Sunday lunchtime and someone walking in speaking English, can throw them off a little.
Russell, you really should buy your lovely wife a robot vacuum cleaner. Or you could just undertake to do all the vacuuming yourself as you think it's so easy. I lived alone with a rottweiler for years, I know about vacuuming.
You can keep your American style shopping mall & its oversized parking lot... I'll take the Farmer's market and the smoked preserved fish thank you very much.
Неy Russel. There was a supermarket called Sedmoi continent, right next to the MID (ministry of foreign affairs) building 20 years ago. I wonder if it's still exists? Do u have a video? Thank u!❤
Do they have shopping malls which sell cars or supermarkets for used cars . Would be interesting to see and how sanctions have impacted western car companies . What can you buy car wise in 2024 in Moscow,
That’s probably the most affected industry in Russia. I don’t drive so I don’t know for sure but you probably can buy almost anything but the price will be through the roof. But Chinese companies don’t beat around the bush and are filling this gap
Are stores in Russia not private property? There's a law that lets you film in stores? In USA, stores are private property and the workers freak out, get in your face and tell you to stop filming before they call the police. This is my second comment on this because it's so crazy.
@KPbICMAH So it's the law they can't be kicked out for filming, but are businesses and stores in Russia private property? Wish we had that law in the USA. In USA you can be kicked out and banned for nothing.
Those are mockups on store shelves, and the buyers are actually shop employees who have to come in on Sunday and pretend they're shoppers. Of course they are not paid for this overtime work, but they will be shot if they refuse. 😂
‘Retail alive and well’????? Are you being serious???!!!!!! This looks like miserable decline to me!!!! Russell, I think you need to stop with the talking Russia up…… it’s sad
Well, it’s a *new* mall. What did you expect? Personally I haven’t noticed much change, however I rarely actually go there, since ordering online is so much more convenient
That’s not what the international . The International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Russia to grow 3.2% this year, significantly more than the UK, France and Germany. Just google it to find how Russian economy is growing… Last year Russia economy Growth was 3.5% , this year it will be around 4% . So what you are saying sounds like propaganda…
@@Quantummechanics-p4o economy of India or Vietnam grow 6-7%. So Russia is worse with such amount of natural resources ? Russian economy didn't grow much last 15 years by the way.
@@Quantummechanics-p4o besides military economy nothing is growing in Russia...watch the Rostag figures , Russian budget for next year and listen to Nabiullina...Hitler Deutschland was also growing until it collapsed
why is difference so big between showcase cities and rural areas. poor pensioneers are living on 150 EUR per month without flushing toilet, no central heating
@@Alx_T. Private and rural houses have autonomous heating! You are very stupid if you believe that they do not exist. Russia has a long and cold winter and heating has always existed and still exists!

It’s shows how well Russia is doing compared to amerika. It’s nice that Russia has a leader who cares about his country and his people. Too bad amerika is falling apart.
It's down to the local administration as well, giving assistance to company and businesses who want to open new places. Locals benefit, jobs are created and it's a win win.
Compared to US's capitalism and still having problems providing basic needs while simultaneously operating wars in other countries and delving into others affairs, anyone with a brain would say Russia is definitely in a better position than US @@stevenfriedman6042
