I finally went to WhipCon this past January in LA.
‪@Adam-Winrich‬ organizes the event every year as a way for whip performers, cosplayers, and enthusiasts to get together, hang out, and practice together. It was awesome to get to meet a ton of people I've been following on social media for years but never got to meet in person.

The thing about performing is you need tricks you can hit every time, even if you're feeling off that day. Performers become excellent at always nailing tricks that are sorta-hard but not super hard. Can't be too hard because it would be risky, might mess up. Someone who focuses on competition is going to be better at competing. I've seen this in several circus arts, magic for example. Amateur magicians are often "better" than pros, because they only have to get it right once in a while, so they can practice harder techniques, where a pro has to find the chosen card every night, no mistakes ever.

The longer I'm on the internet, the more I realise that there are thousands of very specific communities out there for sorts of hobbies and interests and often those communities are a decent size and you generally have very little idea it exists until suddenly you encounter it and a whole world opens. It's very cool but also overwhelming the part of me that wants to 100% life and wants to be involved in everything 😂
