Adam as a lifetime runner my advice would be to 1st get off the treadmill and hit the road. Always run away from your home and never do laps. When you do laps or a treadmill you can stop at anytime. Run 6.5 miles from home if you can’t run back it forces you to walk back. Tampa Jay has my #. Good luck.
@@stephaniepersin4222don’t worry it won’t happen just like his fit by 50 he hasn’t been training it takes more then a month to train to run a half marathon
@@stephaniepersin4222 100% not true. Inexperienced runners run 1/2 marathons all the time. Especially a runDisney one because they aren't serious at all. It is just for fun.
I am an RN, and I agree with other comments….before you start any more intense training and running, you should get a full medical exam and EKG. It would be terrible to be alone and have a cardiac event. Be safe! There’s NO shame in walking the entire thing, that’s still excellent exercise and a great achievement! 😊 you got this!!! 💪🏻
@@TheDailyWoo you’re so welcome! I’m sure you will do great! An Apple Watch or fitness tracker would be super helpful to keep track of your heart rate if you don’t already use one. I love using my Apple Watch! My daughter (27) and I are going on our first ever trip to Disneyland for my 50th bday (April 1) and we are so excited! (From Indiana). Also plan to visit a beach while we are there…we have NEVER seen the ocean or been to a beach before! 🏝️
I went from 315 LBs to doing half marathons in under two hours. My biggest piece of training advice is to not do all of your training on a treadmill. Run outside as much as you possibly can.
@@TheDailyWoo I live in Chicago so most of my running from like November to March is on the treadmill. It's definitely a very useful tool and will really help you lose weight. And if you weren't planning on doing the half then I'd say you could stick with the treadmill as much as you want. But outside running is different than treadmill running, and you don't realize how much harder it is until you get outside.
Adam, You can do it!! Don’t doubt yourself. You know after I turned 50 my outlook on life changed. Man, take your time you have been on a great course. Slow and steady!! I hope you read my comment on the last video!! again F**k the trolls with all the negativity comments!! You might try some chair yoga. To get stretched out and it has other benefits as well!!
Adam, I’m so glad you decided to go on this half marathon adventure!! You are also inspiring me to continue being active along with you!!My daughter will be turning 50 in April and I feel blessed that I can still be walking and active at 76!! We can all find our own level and go with it. Stretching is a great way to begin. Clears the mind too!! Have a blessed day 😅
@@TheDailyWooAdam look into H.I.T. training. This will help you get training along with the 5 minute stretching and warm up before you workout. That's H.I.T. TRAINING. High Intensity Training.
Sincere advice: See a doctor. Get a physical and basic bloodwork. At age 49, that kind of serious training needs to be backed up with personal health knowledge (Blood pressure, blood sugar, kidney and liver function, cholesterol). From one older guy to another -- please trust me on this.
You got this Adam!!! As long as you cross, the finish line, doesn’t matter on how long it takes you. You are going to love the new shoes you purchased. Good luck on your upcoming training. I am trying to do the same thing.
You may want to consider following a program for running, that’s what many of the runDisney runners do. For example, like Jeff Galloway😊 Also, I really agree with the person that says to get a physical from a doctor so you can make sure your heart is ready for this challenge ❤ Can’t wait to see your progress 🎉!
I look forward to the Tim Trakcers video showing Adam the Woo in near darkness crawling across the half marathon finish line. I think Tim looks forward to making this video as well.
You got this Adam. It’s all mental, just push yourself and set little goals. Pick a point run then the next and so on. I’m 20 years in the military and still going even though my body is badly beat up over the years.
You encourage and inspire me through your positive attitude and actions. Have watched your vids since 2012. You are awesome brother. The world is a better place with you on it. Thank you
Adam look what you have achieved already. How many people are doing what they love every day? You have bought a home, a car a gemE2 and you even got to Hawaii and you are ticking off all the baseball stadiums! I'd say that's a pretty determined guy! Don't doubt yourself. ❤❤
I was hoping this would be the news you were talking about! I hope to see you during the race and follow your runDisney training. I'm following the program and it'll be my first one too. We can do it!!! 🌟
1/2 marathons are no joke - especially if you are not used to running outside (in the California summer). Take it seriously, train hard and believe in yourself. You can do it.
I know Disneyland has a 5K. Starting out on a 13 mile run/walk is brave but good for you on wanting to do it! Looking forward to you chronicling your progress in training for it!!
@TheDailyWoo highly recommend getting a doctor check up before starting a training block, especially if you have never done something like this before. Also, train outside, not on a treadmill.
That's a great goal. Sean Astin of Goonies and Lord of the Rings fame used to run half and full marathons, and even did a triathlon in Hawaii. But it takes concerted effort and training. You might want to see if you can find a coach. They can help you pick the right clothes and diet, and put you on a running schedule. Best wishes to you.
Good morning, Adam!! You’re awesome. Heck yeah… a morning hanging out with Adam is a good morning!! ☀️ You’re so handsome as you are!!! 😍 I know that you can definitely do it!! You’ve got a will power like no other! Look at how you’ve kept up this daily channel for years!! So much work and dedication go into this daily channel… if you can go out in the world and do the daily exploring and videos… you can definitely do this!!
Adam I’m so excited for you and can’t wait to watch you through this journey. You most definitely can finish this Half Marathon: you have more than enough training time if you were doing the Full Marathon! I have done more Marathons and Half marathons than I can count: first I was excited to see that you went to a running store and were measured for the right shoe. Grabbing any running shoe is a huge mistake that beginners make and they pay for it later! Make Sure you don’t decrease your carbs too much. Good carbs are energy and you don’t want to zap out. I would suggest a good Half Marathon run/walk plan for first Half marathon. It would keep you on track and keep you from running junk miles that won’t help you. Jeff Galloway has great plans and he used to be the official trainer for Disney races. He may still be. Disney runs are great because they are so entertaining and it keeps you going. Good luck and enjoy the experience! You may be hooked after this! I think it would be great if Tim joined you. I watched his race and he did great. You will too!! We will be here to cheer you on!! Go Adam!!! By the way I’m glad he talked you into the socks!! I disagree that any sock will do and the 1/2 size bigger shoe is a must! Also keep the running shoes for running and walking on and off the treadmill. You don’t want to wear them every day.
I’m sitting here with a broken foot and ankle thinking about this endeavor you are planning. God bless you have the determination you can do anything. Isn’t that the Disney way …. To Dream!!!! But you know you look good weight wise work on building muscle…..as I sit here dreaming of walking down the block………
I wish you well my friend. I really hope you can do it. I did the same for my 50th. Started training for a full marathon 6 months before. After about 3 months of training my knees and back said no sir and I had to give up the dream. I'm pulling for you good luck!
@thedailywoo love seeing more people running! Ive been a runner basically my whole life and think about running like Gusteau thinks about cooking. Don't forget to do a little strength stuff (lunges, single leg stands, calf raises) and ease into it. You have been super dedicated to previous fitness goals, you have nothing to worry about if you approach it like you have other challenges. Don't forget to enjoy it.
Good luck with your running adventure, Adam. And be careful about running on the treadmill….tough on the knees and running outside is so much different.
I just finished my first 10k this past weekend at WDW! It was months of hard work to prepare but so worth it. I was slow, mostly walked briskly, and worried I wouldn’t finish the whole time but did! You’ll do great in the half marathon and if not, everyone at Run Disney events is very support pile and encouraging. I never thought I’d be one to participate in any kind of running event but this was my third Run Disney event and looking forward to more!!
Adam I had been trail walking but the winter has slowed that to a crawl and I look forward to going back to that. You could be an inspiration to others, good for you 😊
Thank you Adam ! You're freaking amazing! Watching for a few years now. I hope all is well. Will be rooting for you from the sidelines for your birthday goal. Shall I ? 👊😂
Great for you, Adam! It sounds like a ton of fun! Work your way up gradually and you should be good! We'll be routing for you! Speaking from personal experience, definitely drop weight first before starting your running, because any extra weight is punishment on the knees. Your training plan sounds solid! 🙂
*SOCKS* I swear by Wright Sock Double Layer socks. As they have a double layer, your feet don't blister. And they are bullet proof. I've had a couple of pairs since 2006 and they are still like new. Highly, highly recommend them. ( I supinate eg wear the outside of heels on my shoes, so I wear Asics Gel Nimbus running shoes. Also highly, highly recommend them ).
So excited for you and jealous. I wanted to run that race. As for the socks. I love my Feetures. Running socks are so key to saving your feet from blisters etc. as fine a good plan and build slowly. You have plenty of time to train. The run walk method is the best things to start.
Just a quick note to say thank you for what you do. Good entertainment is getting harder and harder to find. You bring it every time you record and post.
Not a runner but almost became one after training for my first (and only 😂) half marathon. I used the Jeff Galloway plan. It helped keep me on track and slowly got me up to longer distance runs. As long as you keep better than a 16 min/mile pace you will be just fine. Most people can walk that pace. Excited follow your journey! You’ve got a lot of supporters behind you!
Been following you for so long now and its such a coincidence we are both doing our first run disney event at the same time! Turned 21 last december and decided to change my life around and sign up for the chills and thrills challenge in September. You got this! See you in September
Very excited for your journey. i've been running for 40 plus years, done a lot of long races, many on trails. As others have said, you do need to run outside, as the energy return on the treadmill helps you, and running outside will feel different. One major plus to the treadmill is the incline, even if the race is flat, work in some "hills" because they are great leg strengtheners. What's really kept me running is yoga, and it does not have to take a lot of time. 15 minute sessions with yoga with Adrienne and your joints will thank you. good luck, you got this!
Hello Adam. Good fitting shoes are important for any activity you might go on! Signing up for the half marathon is awesome! Dave and I hope you reach your goal by the day you start your marathon! 🤗❤🏰
Do not worry about the time, Adam. Enjoy the sights and what Disney offers in these “races”. I ran/walked the Wine & Dine, finishing in 3 hours. I stopped for photos, water and snacks. Each mile marker I took a selfie (it’s fun to see how I looked each mile). You’ll hit a wall at some point but then get a burst of energy. Disney puts together excellent race events. This was my favorite half marathon I’ve done. Best of luck!
I cant wait to see you progress and train! The most I've done is 8 miles so 13 miles is my next step. I will tell you that walking and running on hard pavement is no joke. My knees were killing me when I got done with those 8 miles
That’s amazing Adam your be awesome. Do your best mate, you’re not there for a time you’re there to enjoy it and with Tim by your side your have the best time ever 💪🏻❤️
Congratulations on your upcoming race! You’ll love it! Check out the Jeff Galloway method. It’s interval training (run/walk) and it’s a fantastic way to train for Disney runs. Looking forward to cheering you on!
You are inspiring me to get back into shape...thank you! I think getting into shape is 90% attitude and 10% physical. You have a great attitude and I think you'll do it!
Adam you can definitely do it. It’s easily walkable worst case but add in some run walk intervals and you will have no problems. Biggest thing is set yourself up for success, get in your coral as early as you can so you will start as early as you can which gives you more of a buffer. Since it’s your first race limit photo stops or at least waiting in the long line, just snap a selfie off to the side and keep moving. I’ve done both coasts and DL is a different feel than WDW since most of the race is off property. For me the highlight out there was running on the field of Angels stadium with people in the stands cheering us on. Also when the race is over as much as you want to go back to the resort and relax it’s best to keep moving, at least for me it is.
Adam - you will definitely finish the run man. You’ve totally got this. Don’t under estimate the energy the crowd brings to one of the race, it will carry you across the finish. Good look on the journey; it will be extremely rewarding. You’ll be ready for the full marathon right after the half ! 😅
This is great, and you’re doing the right thing by having a plan. After doing this you’re going to catch the bug and want to register for all kinds of races. See you at the start and finish lines!
What a awesome and exciting goal, Adam. I hope you have a lot of fun. Be kind to yourself and do your best. Be safe with your training.. You got this... No matter the outcome, all that matters is you try😊❤
I’m gonna have to make a reservation for Disneyland and get my hotel at the Marriott so I can watch you run walk sprint. Whatever you’re gonna do I think it’s great Adam as a long time runner Glad you are doing it. Best of luck in your training.😮
Very excited for you Adam! I can't recommend enough to buy Nike Alphaflys for the actual half marathon!!! I have done 5 runDisney half marathons and the one that i felt comfortable and got my best time was with Alphaflys. Using other shoes my knees would start to feel pain around miles 10-11. I'm telling you man, Nike Alphaflys will save your knees and will make it a much easier experience. A few years ago one woman won all the races on a marathon weekend and she was wearing Alphaflys.
Having watched but YES YOU WILL FINISH! This isn’t about time or beating anyone, it’s getting to the finish line. I’m rooting for you Adam! You got this!!
Congrats, on deciding to run the half marathon. You'll do great, you got this. Pace yourself it doesn't matter when you finish. Just getting out there and do it, you already won 🥇
Adam, I will be running the same 1/2-marathon at Disneyland! You've got this, sir! IT will be an amazing accomplishment and you will feel incredible when you complete it.
That happened to me too with that run Disney! Was in there 20 mins early and only had the marathon available .. I know my limits so I didn’t sign up. It would have been fun. Especially if you and Tim are gonna be there! Well I’ll be routing for you guys!
A marathon?!? Bro. I love you as another human being loves one another, just go enjoy another delicious triple cheese burger instead. I worry about you in a good way. If you train a little bit and find you can go for, kick some ass! Just be responsible with yourself one way or another. It would crush me to hear of anything bad happening to you. For real. Live and love your life my friend, but do it in a safe way. Please. I’ve been a subscriber to the channels for YEARS now, I rarely comment. But I appreciate and value you as a person and love watching your content.
Much appreciated. I’ll be ok I think bit as it gets closer I’ll see my progress . I can walk 13 miles easily so just gotta pick up the pace a little . That’s my mindset
@@TheDailyWooI grew up overweight and lost a lot of it after high school, I’ve been on a journey myself. I’m not as old as you are, but I’m getting up there! Don’t want you to think you’re ever alone on these kind of journeys my RU-vid friend! We all live life and enjoy it in different ways, I’m proud of you one way or another. I know you’ll be smart about this! Sorry, giving that little brother worried about his older brother vibes now. Haha
Hi Adam, I wish you all the best in your health and wellness journey. My wife and I started using a rowing machine last year to help with our cardio because we both have questionable joints and I'm considerably over weight. I just wanted to share because it makes a great difference in other activities we do now. We have one called a concept 2 rowerg. I wish you all the best and we're all cheering you on
Adam, I'm so excited for you!! I just completed my third marathon myself and you will not regret it. As another lifetime runner on here said, the best thing to do is get outside to train. Work your way up slowly and don't punish yourself if you aren't progressing as fast as you want. A fitness tracker to log miles helps immensely. I live in Celebration too and I run almost everyday. Hope to see you out there!
You might consider going to a physician and getting a complete physical first, especially since this distance is considerably longer than what you had planned .
I’ll be there with you, you got this! I’m 52 and always been a big guy. Did some run Disney events pre-covid years and never thought I could do a half. Completed Star Wars at wdw in the humidity. Check out running/walking intervals using Jeff Galloway’s methods! Good luck training, see you there!
