Hi Dave, what a coincidence!, I have been getting a notification that my American express card has been compromised!!, but, I've never had an American express card !!, like you say, scam !! Great video on the cameras
@@12voltvids so, in other words there's differences between the two boards, so it wouldn't work? It was just a thought, but, oh well... no great loss, I guess 🙂
Phishing happens to me sometimes. I don't have Netflix or other things they want me to verify. I never click on their links. Interesting repair attempt on the camera!
The mechanisms are all standardised. I have done videos in the past where i have taken parts from completely different models from different years to repair units. 8mm cameras for example they had 5 different mechanisms that spanned from the mid 80s through 2004.
I wouldn't be surprised if the sensor in the Digital8 has a native logical resolution of 720x480 bayered while the one in the Hi8 might be an older sensor type with some legacy logical resolution deemed good enough for that format, say 600-ish x 486 bayered. Of course they could resample the horizontal resolution off any sensor to the 720 Y and 180 Cb/Cr samples wanted for Digital8, but probably decided to put some extra pennies into a better sensor to show off the difference between the cameras.
Digital 8 used a shitty sensor, not a higher resolution as other more expensive dv cameras did. This was done so D8 didn't look as good as DV so as not to undermine DV sales.
I have an idea (I hope it will work) you can change the mechanics of the analog camera, take the mechanics of a digital camera and change the head from digital to analog and that's how you can make one camera work
In theory I could take the chassis out and swap it. I have done that before, however the costs associated with that would be prohibitive. The digital was donated and I had planned to hang on to it as I have 2 trv240 cameras I use for digitizing work, so if the chassis was going into any camera it would be one of mine for when I wear it out. What I would charge to transplant a chassis is more than the camera is worth. Remember working Hi8 cameras of this vintage go for between 100 and 150 for a working camera. I had 2 hi-8 cameras that I unloaded this past year and I didn't get anywhere near what the owner was expecting. One came to me with ebay listings showing buy it now for 400 and thought their camera was worth that much. Listed on ebay, nothing happened. Had a reserve at what I thought they might get and no bites. Had a buy it now of 225, nothing, and the 20 of so bids didn't get to the reserve. The one with the working battery finally sold for 160 and the other one that battery would not hold a charge ended up selling for 125. These were for late model hi8 like this one. I see lots listed on facebook market place and most go for 60 to 100 usually with no battery because they are usually toast. They are not worth anything. Anyone that thinks they are is living in a dream world. And yes I know some people pay big bucks for this old stuff, if you can flog one for big bucks all the power to you. Around my parts however most are well educated and know what this stuff is worth. Very few pieces are worth money.. And then I saw on the news that 15 boxes of unopened hockey cards from 1979 just sold for 5 million dollars to some anonymous buyer hoping for some uncirculated Gretzy cards from his rookie year. All I can say about that is some people have too much money lol.
