The same lures you use for bass can be used for reds.

I always switch hands been doing it since I was 14 have never had any problems even with lost fish .

However one can get the job done... I also throw left hand reels, and boy I wish companies would wake the F up and offer ALL of their reels in both hand orientations. Do they not want to take my money?

They need to use thicker wire or stronger metal to attach the two parts together. I was going to buy one, but after seeing how thin and flimsy the wire is I'm gonna pass on this lure until they make improvement on it. Awesome action though!

Well all I know is I’ve had 2 of the break on 2 consecutive trips and both are documented here on the channel

I know that's weird... I've caught some monster stripers on the hellraiser and never had an issue. Still use the same one. Maybe your area got a bad batch of lures?? Maybe try setting your drag a little less?

I tie a clinch knot. Yeah no doubt a redfish is way more destructive than a bass but I know over time the same thing would happen with bass just not as soon.

I don’t take it that way just want to see what you’re thinking. A light setup wouldn’t be able to deflect the lure, it’s to heavy. A medium would deflect it about right but a fast action would pull the hooks bad. The proper power rod per the weight of the lure is a med Heavy ( which is what I was using) the proper action per the style of lure is a moderate, this action is slow to load and has a very soft tip to absorb hard pulls and maintain even pressure through the fight (which is also what I’m using) My setup is a TFO tactical elite bass MH Moderate rod designed for top water bass fishing I felt that this would be the best setup possible for my application.

@@southernsalt I agree I don’t know how much more you could’ve done to set up for this lure. I was thinking lighter line but I don’t think that helps the issue being a cheap wire. I picked one up before seeing this and have only used it once and caught 1 (fish were in a funk that day it was tough using my go to lures) but I’ll keep you updated I do have a place I fish that consistently produces me 4-7lb bass that I’ll have it tied to a pole till it breaks to see how it holds

A buzz bait for reds has a terrible hook up ratio. I’ve had a ton of blowups but zero hook ups

@@southernsalt I’m just asking because I have been wanting to try, what about with a trailer hook? When I used to bass fish a lot and they would blow up and I would miss them I added a trailer hook and problem solved. Just wondering if this would work for reds?

Yeah, this is one of those lures that I really wanted it to work out.

Lol a med light rod couldn’t even handle the deflection from the weight of this lure. I’m throwing a Med Heavy Moderate rod and drag was backed down a good bit. If you noticed the video and paid attention you’d know that it wasn’t the hook that was bent it was the wire the blade is on. Fighting the fish didn’t bend the blade, the fish eating the lure like a taco did! But I’d be happy to watch a video of you or anyone else showing me how it’s done.
