Many subscribers have sent me a video of a particular coach that shares his experience with the kettlebell swing. From experience, we can tell that the kettlebell swing might not always be the best option for certain people (especially those who suffer from low shear tolerance in their spine).
In this case however, the coach in question mentions rather peculiar reasons as to why he's not enjoying the kettlebell swing.
Since a reaction to his views have been requested quite often, here's a full reaction to the notion that you should never do another kettlebell swing in your life.

Thanks for this and your channel, I’m so tired of people who because their super fit they think that they can comment and criticize technical sports they have no background in. It’s like learning the 100m sprint from a lawn bowling coach.

Thanks for sharing Scott! In the coach’s defense from the video, I used to be gullible enough to think that I can differentiate exercises from different backgrounds as well. It maybe has to do with the trainer’s mindset. We think we’re invincible because we’re teaching beginners how to move. Whatever the case, I see this happening with others as well. Thank God I got “red-pilled” one day and took time to hone my craft. - Gregory

I liked this video. I am a former Strongfirst certified grievoy. I have not kept up on my certifications as I no longer work with clients. However the only things I have in my home gym are kettlbebells. The only thing I would add to your demonstration at the end is that the top of a swing you should be thinking plank. A drill for someone whose hips go forward in a swing would be to hold a plank position for 30 seconds and then go right into swinging so they can match the position of holding the plank at the top.
@lebe-stark

I've been doing the program (deadlift and press) for the last two months.... and it's working very well for me. Deadlifts and variants (From floor, from 4-inch blocks, romanian, next might be snatch-grip-pulls) And Kettlebells for the press. Five on the left, five on the right, then repeat with 2 kg lighter weight. Next cycle, I'm going to try push-press. I own my own barbell, and I have a set of kettlebells (plus a 2 kg magnetic weight), and it's working very, very, well for me. If you're interested, look up Dan John's "Easy Strength" or "Easy strength for Fat Loss". Very compatible programs. I do the above 5 times per week and do a 45 minute walk with a 35 lb backpack afterwards. Not lost any weight... but tightened my belt a couple of notches, and my friends say I definitely look different.

I also do not like swings. It's not the form of them or something like that. It's just the feeling that i am wasting time i could press, jerk or snatch the kettlebell. Even did a dedicated swing program a few month ago just to maybe get rid of my bias (Program was KB: Strongfirst Swings & Getups). But it didn't helped. The program was good and i even had fun. But every week i was thinking how much i want to press the bells again.
@lebe-stark
@lebe-stark Год назад
It’s a matter of preference in your case as I’m understanding your comment. I too, rather do Clean & Jerks. Yet, there are some vital benefits (with all types of swing variations) that make them part of my weekly program. Thanks for sharing! - Gregory
@ralphnevill6171
@ralphnevill6171 Год назад
While I'll agree with him about the swing in that it is my least favorite KB exercise, but that said, I love me my KBs. I much prefer to do snatches (a swing/clean) that magically ends up overhead or C & J to swings. Having and following a decent program that challenges you on your bad (low energy) days while restraining your enthusiasm on your good days is the key to overtraining with KBs - lots of good programs out there including the ones by LS ;) Thanks Gregory for your insights!

"where somebody is talking about kettlebell and you want my opinion on it" that being said, Gregory, I was wondering if you have already checked out US based coach, Zack Henderson. He seems to provide solid kettlebell tutorial videos (hardstyle though). I couldn't find that much information on him other than he is a certified RKC instructor as stated in his website. I mentioned him because it might be a good way to hear your thoughts and/or have him as a guest for a little "picking of the brain" session and exchange of opinions and insights. I appreciate your insight Gregory and I'd love your feedback on my experience with some moderately heavy swings I did yesterday: the inner part of my thighs where the forearms land became irritated and I'm wondering is this a common occurrence or am I doing something incorrectly? Do you experience this, do others, is this an anomaly or is this the norm? Thank you for your valuable insight Gregory!

@@lebe-stark yes, of course: A discomfort from the pressure of forearm bone digging into that part of the inner thigh and it discourages me from doing more reps because of that discomfort. Sooo … there’s a bit to unpack here … if the bottom of a swing is a deadlift and the top of a swing is a plank think “hinge-plank, hinge-plank” then, by extension he would have to say “if you have a posterior pelvic tilt, you shouldn’t do deadlifts or planks” What? I will agree with Gregory here that his form is probably, sub optimal, perhaps?

Hi Gregory from what im hearing its the guy overworked with the kettlebell swing which is easy cause of the self impulse one can achieve with the kettlebells depending on the of course.but that stuff about losing fat,well it over worked😂ajem🧐it worked!!🤦🏻‍♂️.one can cardio with almost everything even dumbbells and barbells.what you said was correct the kettlebell is a jack of all trades and a master of all in my opinion its not the exact tool for recuperation from injury o fast muscle loss but everything it sets out to do,it will do it flawleslly.it will be mostly a compound excercise with this also one needs calories and fat for muscle growth especially if cardio or cycling running, climbing and so on its on the daily plan.eating healthy is knowing what you need and when enough its enough for each meal,not only eat anything cause it tastes good and that'll be the end of that sort of thing.muscles grow when people know what their doing and have patience or are not aware of the progress.i do what i wanto to do no one can persuade me otherwise.i believe what i can do and others can do i dont have to do what others do like a copycat as the guy is suggesting others not to do something.at least he gave his opinion.but way uninformed not all bicep curls in the kettlebell are optimal effective only the one thats done like the begining of a snatch its a valid curl and a good one at that. its like a zottman curl but between the legs not to the side of the pelvis like common curls.
