I had a goat kid that had a similar problem with her hooves not wearing down properly because she was so light. For the first year I basically had to trim the hoof walls just a tad every other week so she wouldn't start to go lame and walk oddly. Once she was old enough and had gained some bulk they started wearing down properly and she started getting normal hoof trims with the others.

aha, i knew it! the title said incurable, and I had a feeling to would turn out to be corkscrew claw. incurable (since it's symptomatic of the bone changing) but treatable. (i always get a little nervous when I see a title like that, even though I know graeme wouldn't title a video about a seriously injured animal like that) I'm quite pleased I've learned so much just from his videos edit: ooh, I didn't realise it was the second cow the title was referring to. it's a shame she wont get much better, but I'm glad she'd being made for comfortable. since graeme mentioned it's a tendon issue, I wounder if it's the bovine equivalent of hypermobility? being hypermobile myself, I give my sympathy to that calf

Been around cattle for a bit over 40 years (3rd gen rancher). I don't think I've ever seen a calf that needed hoof trimming. Would have looked into who her mother was and her past with calves with issues then deemed to cull her line or not.

What an awesome career choice. You're providing a service that impacts a lot people, you work with animals outside and you don't have to pay for them....pretty sweet gig!
