our two boys (brothers) live in the house and we take them out for a walk in towns every weekend / this weekend we took them to the ocean and they loved it and got there feet wet ( Nigerian dwarfs ) they at 11 mo old
I had a token goat yrars ago he was a character. when I dug post holes hed stand where each stroke hit his horns lol I heard him screaming for me one day and I found him floating in middle of pond. hed climbed on the floating dock and untied it. I had to row boat out to get him. He was life of the party, super happy go lucky goat. Kids would visit and he was everyones favorite. I had one of those kids play things with a slide and he get on top and slide down the slide and do a "happy dance" finish at the bottom. what a character. His favorite thing was entertaining babies. hed show out and make babies giggle. More they giggled more he danced. He was priceless!
I sure love you goats I'm just afraid if I had a couple did they would be sleeping in the bed with me and my wife in fact I am pretty sure they would be sleeping in the bed with me and my wife but I do love you goats I wish you all a great day from the tide Waters of Virginia take care of my friend
Actually its a good idea to combine goat and milch cows cos goats prefer to eat shrubs, brushes, small trees etc over grass where as cows prefer grass. So you'll get more from smaller area.
I would like to give a quick note you can tell with people when there is a problem with their eyelids too but it's not for worms it's for their iron. If they don't have enough iron then their gums will be pale too. Some worms can cause a low iron issue I think but so can ticks so it's not necessarily a worm issue it's something causing a blood loss problem or not getting enough iron.
patriotsongs yes, that’s it. The worms bite the stomach lining to feed of blood. Goats become anemic from the blood loss. The pale inner eye is a sign of anemia. Run that backwards and you get to the conclusion that they probably have worms.
I know this video was posted 4 years ago, but I just subscribed, and have a lot to catch up. I have to say ...I know a guy in Texas that is your identical twin you both look a like, and act identical. I have known this man for years, and It is mind boggling how much you two are a like in appearance, and personality. Also I have to say that your identical twin is a very good Christian. So don't worry. God has made us all unique...that is why we are referred to as the salt of the earth. Thanks for your videos...Keep them coming!!
I have one goat, very lovely, she is the boss of my dogs😂I go to farm everyday with her in evening, she follows me everywhere, she doesn't like walk in dark, she eats everything😅
We have Lamancha's and love them. Milk taste great like cow's milk. We get a gallon from one goat a day. They are so loveable but will get into things like all goats.
The feed plays a huge difference in the taste of the milk, as does the breed. Love my goats...even thought they are always underfoot & get into EVERYTHING. =D P.S. A squirt bottle of water is a great tool for correcting them when they try to rush a gate, climb on your daughters, eat something they shouldn't, or do other "baaaad" things. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. =)
We are keeping our goats but just at a friends house. The momma goats have baby's on them so I am not worried about them drying up and the goats are easier/faster to get back into milk than a cow.
Hi Guys I am a new susbriber...living in Ca and thinking of moving back to NY after 13 years , but this time to try the country life. This video is awesome, trying to learn all we can before a big step and praying of course. God bless you ! ...thanks.
Oh, this had me cracking up. Seriously considering getting into homesteading, soon as I figure out how to do it while driving back and forth between where I live and where my mom lives.
I love this video. I learned several things. I agree with you Christa, sheep are not as fun as goats. We are going to be heading back into more goats and less sheep.
My boys want 7 layer hens, and a Nigerian Dwarf Milk mama plus 2 kids. I'd like a small burro. But we are a small startup homestead...2 acres. I'm 57 single grandma. I just need to know how much will a year run me to have these beauties please? I trust you guys SOOOOOOO much. Thank you!!!!
Speaking of electric fences when my brother in law was a teenager he decided to relieve himself, not knowing that the high grass was covering an electric fence. I'm fairly certain you know what happened. It took his two brothers with wooden sticks to pry him loose!
Huh, I had no idea diatomaceous earth worked after it got wet. I've used it for years on my garden and also when I got one of my cats, he was a tiny kitten and had fleas all over him. He was too young for any flea treatments so I bathed him in Dawn and then used diatomaceous earth on him as well as the area he was in. Worked fine. Interesting to know it works for worms too. I've never had goats, but I have a friend who raises them. I loved how the goats in the video pretty much illustrated all your points. LOL They have such character!
I Do not like the taste of Saanen milk either. I have Nubian goats and their milk is super fabulous! Tastes just like cows milk. Plus what you feed them plays a lot in how the milk tastes (fyi) lol Great video!
Hi, Brad and Christa thanks for sharing useful information. I love to have a nice homestead in or around London somewhere in UK which I don't. Here not so many lands available for sale. and if available so the price is high e.g. the £2000 acre land price is £15000.
Love my shetland sheep! Yeah, they aren't as smart as goats, but that is not necessarily a good thing. We had goats and couldn't keep them in for anything. I am shocked that you guys haven't had any trouble with them getting out. We didn't have stuff for them to play on either so that might be the secret... Nice tip! I'll have to try that if I ever get brave enough to try goats again.
I have four goats my wether and does are alpine and my buck is an alpine Nubian mix. My wether goat I'm training to be a pack goat and all around work/draft animal.
I don't much care for Sannen milk either. Fattier milk from Nubians and Nigerians is more to my taste. And if bucks are with milkers the milk tastes "goaty".
Patti Sharrow The world we live in says Nigerian Dwarfs (2 females). You can always breed them and have their milk. You just don't know what is coming down the pike.
Great tips! We have Nigerian Dwarfs and LaManchas. I only have one of my Nigerians freshening this year (any day now!). I'm looking forward to getting my 2 LaManchas bred this fall. The Nigerians are great, but the milk volume isn't nearly as good as the full size dairy breeds!
Well well well, thank you so much for the information? I want to downsize but I had a realtor tell me I can have a horse on 2 acres you're telling me I cannot in Warren County on anything less than 3 acres. ????? I would expect someone who is responsible to sell me a property to know what the law is, apparently not!
Donna Terry some realtors know nothingbabout zoning, but tell you their assumptions to make the sale (happened to us) contact the county zoning office and they cab tell you the zoning of the property some counties also have an online thing where you can look it up
Sheep give amazing milk. They can be nervous, but that is what protects them. Ours always come up to us and follow us around. I hate that they get such a bad name, they are every intelligent and great lawn mowers.
That's so sweet. We have been thinking of doing videos for a while, but it seems like a huge responsibility. We are still learning about sheep and aren't milking our sheep this year. I just think it's sad that sheep are called stupid so often. I would call them determined. Lol! And their milk is super sweet.
Our Island Acres That's what my son tells me. He's a vet of the Gulf War and came back deathly iill and now can't drink cow's milk or eat chocolate or whole wheat. He can drink sheep milk and loves it, and sheep milk is the easiest on his system, so when our family buys a farm next year, we're going to raise some dairy sheep. I for one have a very special place in my heart for sheep and I don't think they're stupid. I yearn to have mine and to get to know each one and gain their trust. And don't start a channel until it feels right. But would it be all right if I stay subbed to you so I can be sure of getting to see your vlogs when they do start??♡j
Sue Leigh I'm very sorry about your son, please tell him thank you for his service. My husband is retired navy. That's why we are just getting started. I hope you get some sheep, then maybe you can start a channel and we can teach each other. :) Feel free to email if you want. My name is Mitzi. Ourislandacres@gmail.com
Our Island Acres Oh, thank you very much! I will tell him and please thank your hubs for his service. I wish you blessings and happy serendipities--good things coming to you that you didn't expect! It's nice meeting you and I'll look for you on future vlogs!
Unless I missed it, I think I would have mentioned about male goats and how they can smell especially when near females and that if you are going to have males and females together, the fact that females can go into heat every 19 days.
I tried to switch my donations on Amazon Smile to y'all. I typed in Big Family Homestead, then tried it with no spaces, then saw a link (above) and used it, all to no avail. Can you check on it, please?? I want to be able to help in this way.
Awesome information. I would suggest in the future not putting your wife down on camera or at any other time. Please be more respectful to her. Other than that, I loved the information. I am definitely considering goats as a source of livestock.
Oh, I LOVED my LaManchas. They were sooo sweet, smart &, being native to Spain, they were well suited to the climate in the Phoenix, AZ area. Their milk was rich & sweet. And my wether was the class clown & a favorite of all my neighbors and their children.
Believe it or not but my CATS are very similar to ur goats, just way worse 😂 they are getting on everything and nibbleling everything plus they also rip everything into pieces with tgeir claws 😋 however im planning to get goats too..
We have alpines and saanan Love them!! Check out my page to see videos on goat care/health! We don't keep males within 100yards of females cause it makes our milk taste bad 🤢
