Completely letting the cat out of the bag on this one. My brother Ewing and I took first and second place in the Hobie BOS on the Susquehanna River using a bait and technique that most have never even heard of before, which is hard to do these days.
Make sure you check out Fishing Online www.fishingonl... to get some Evergreen Gizmos, those were the money makers on the river. Really great way to trick big summer smallmouth in low water.

I feel like this guy should have been disqualified from this tournament. He has spent most of his time wade fishing. Not kayak fishing. I don’t know. Maybe it just me. But if you join a kayak tournament. Maybe you should be in your kayak.

So I stand corrected. I did some research. Found out they allowed this on this body of water. Because it’s so low. That is crazy. Sorry for the blast in my original comment. My bad.

I didn't do well in the tourney, down around low 100's. But my 2 biggest fish came off a berkley driftwalker or jwalker... one of the two, i think a drift walker. I shoulda spent a lot more time on topwater than spending most of my day throwing a crawdad squarebill. The day before tourney a musky ate my only black choppo, which was the only topwater i could get bit consistently.....and he cut the line with his teeth. I went to bass pro, and they didnt have one, so I threw a whopper plopper and an academy version of a choppo.....and they just didnt want it, only little ones. I had a couple of those duo realis cicada baits.... different than the one you were throwing but I think it still woulda done well. I never even thought to throw it---just shows how smart you are in research and paying attention to your environment---hell of a job. I was close to where you were, i would run over to that bridge both days, and fish 2 little pools under it and after next rapids. i think you were further up.....day 2 I ran upstream far when I couldnt get a limit... all the way up to.....well as far as I could(without giving away anything). I put in at the ramp south of yours, but I was going over in the same little "side river" or section, I was just further south. I just couldnt get them to eat, I was around a bunch. you def showed in these videos your skill and knowledge in breaking the water down, putting all the variables together, etc. awesome job bro.....you worked your ass off and deserved this one, pay no attention to haters...it's hard to fish the way you are and not spooking the fish, etc. if someone else runs through your area, they scare all the fish, I mean any number of things can happen and you still made it work, put everything together from years of experience and made it work. You deserved this win bro, be proud and show that hardware off.

This is some of the coolest tournament footage ever man. A match the hatch finesse win is so much more gratifying. Great job! I won a tourney sightfishing a 2inch fin-S -fish that i perched up with some sharpie markers. Any depressions in the sand had a cloud of perch fry and the shadow of a 4lb smallmouth under it. I cleaned up. After weigh in people laughed at what i had tied on, were you fishing for bluegills? they asked. I have had the same experiance when the fry gaurders start turning on there own. Using only the back 1 inch of it. The Biggest fish in the system will take advantage of these situation’s, just like a large trout will during a hatch.

Great video! I was wondering about that line twist...thanks for explaining. Do you think you could've caught some of those fish on a Ned, crank, or jackhammer?
@nolanminor6761
@nolanminor6761 2 года назад
I'm sure the smaller ones would have bit a jackhammer or crank but aside from early in the morning I don't think it's likely the larger ones would have. Abby caught all his fish on a ned and he was fishing nearby for a 5th place finish!
@chrishannegan2316
@chrishannegan2316 2 года назад
@@nolanminor6761 that big bite was genius. The cicadas must have been isolated in your area...they weren't in mine. Dragonflies and mayflies we're present in my area. One puked up a mayfly on my board. Did you stumble upon that area or did you have some higher sense to locate those fish?
@FishYourHeartOut
@FishYourHeartOut 2 года назад
How are you able to fish OFF/OUTSIDE of the kayak?? Seems like that should be a DQ for those fish. Every tournament I've fished you had to be IN the kayak?
@nolanminor6761
@nolanminor6761 2 года назад
(Specifically) at the Susquehanna we are allowed to portage and wade fish as long as the kayak is tethered to us. It would be nearly impossible to have a tournament on that river otherwise.
@FishYourHeartOut
@FishYourHeartOut 2 года назад
@@nolanminor6761 Somehow my video skipped forward and I missed the part where you explained what's going on. I just was curious because 10K tournament I would assume would have strict rules ha. I'm in AZ and as far as I know a tournament has never been held on any river here so low water isn't an issue. Always interesting to see different tournament styles/rules.
@nolanminor6761
@nolanminor6761 2 года назад
@@FishYourHeartOut At the rest of the Hobie BOS events they're very strict about always being in the kayak while fishing/no portaging etc but Susquehanna rules have always been this way
