Heseltine really defined Johnson when he said, ''Boris Johnson is a politician who waits to see the way the crowd is running and then dashes in front.''
Ditto Kier climb-aboard-the-passing-bandwaggon Starmer... The system allowed Both these people to become leader... so The System is not fit for purpose and requires changing. (... No use flogging a different dead horse!)
He was part of the team who brought about the 2008 financial crisis and made a fortune out of it. He was one of them who brought down the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Yeah like colossal unemployment, neglect and years of misery, oh and the casino low tax immoral City that was funded due to Scottish North Sea Oil receipts. The Germans won that one. Whilst the English fought over the dirty money the Germans invested in modernising their industries and have reaped the rewards. There's no lack of funding for SME's in Germany, whilst the banking cartel in the UK won't allow the smaller banks to grow big enough to support their local companies. Heseltine like Thatcher was a bluffer and they got it horribly wrong. We now have another bluffer in charge, before him we had Theresa bluffer and prior to that sleazy Dave, prior to that Brown and he got the Corbyn treatment due to him being Scottish or something, then Bliar a self confessed Thatcherite, Major Y Fronts and then Dear Maggie. See a trend here? Why is the city of London not subject to parliamentary law?
exactly the same psychopathic behaviour freezing people to death = WHILE THEY COLLECT DIVIDENDS ON SHARES IN POWER COMPANIES - get rid of the shares = gas & electric go down 40 %
It makes no different which political party is in power, they all flop about in whatever direction, their globalist, oligarchial masters demand of them!
He's just a tired old Thatcherite. Same old lame policies that involve bullying the poor and middle, why is the City Of London not subject to parliamentary law?
The Tories wanted to abandon Liverpool in the 80s and 90s, they were going to watch it rot. It was the investment of structural funds by the EEC / EU that helped rebuild and restart Liverpool and Merseyside.
There is No funds from the EU, only illegal Collectivised Poll and Council Taxes which were imposed on people like myself while living with my parents in their rented Council House when my Father was already paying these Taxes. The Tories are nothing but Thieving Parasites on the skin of Society and a Disgrace to the Humane Race.
@patrick h and Cornwall and other poor regions will be waiting for Westminster to provide the same support previously provided from the EU. On the 12th of never!
@@insanityrulestheday rubbish 🗑 Liverpool, Wales, NI, Cornwall and many regions benefited from EU funding. Don't hold your breath for funding from Bozo and Co.
Johnson just talks about 'levelling up' but doesn't come up with any actual proposals, because he's no intention of ever doing it. His Chancellor is too busy doing the exact opposite of levelling up - he's putting up taxes, freezing public sector pay, tax allowances and cutting £20 from U.C.
He’s just talking about levelling up so he can keep lining his own pockets for a bit longer. The wheels will come off the clown car eventually, but be then him and his mates have already won
Indeed Heseltine is right when he says “we not on the same planet”, most of Brits are living in a delusional la la land world! At least one of them once in a while speaks the truth!
Heseltines speaking from a Multi Millionaires perspective. He would be singing a quite different tune if he`d been brought up "Working Class" ,and not in the snob "Toff Society " he`s always lavished in . I`d much rather give a spitting Cobra my respect than a slime ball like the vile ,loathsome Heseltine .
The common quality of Rory Stewart, Ken Clarke and Michael Heseltine are that each can think strategically. They have intellect - the essential for planning.
It's amazing how a maverick under Thatcher now sounds like a reasonable person. It shows how low politicians have fallen. Corporists and weak governments have created pointless politicians
Unbelievable interviewer. I wish he would scrutinise the Government with the same zeal. In essence he is advocating for devolution as the way to level up. Which is also Labours approach but with greater social measure. Unfortunately the current Tory will not back this initiative as it will loose power.
Came to Liverpool as part of a ‘task force ‘ to ‘level’ Liverpool up in the 80’…what happened…they built a ‘garden festival ‘ !! Liverpool got put on its feet in the 90’ with a lot of help from European funding.
Same in Scotland. This mob are impostors and bluffers. I'm now pro independence, which I'd find heartbreaking as I like being part of a collective but the Nasty type of radical that gets returned to Westminster all of the time depresses me.
What an evil person. When he was in charge he kept quite. Now we have a 14 trillion pound pension ponzi to pay. If NI had been invested, 26 trillion in a fund, and the divends would pay all tax. Hestletine took that money from people, and now has the temerity to say, oh there's a problem.
This man, this Lord, is one of the few Knights of the Realm that I have any respect for. He worked tirelessly to promote investment in areas of the country that were in decline. He really was a man for the people, of the people. Brave, honest and relentless. 😎
He’s an absolute snake!what he did to Maggie T hwas unforgivable. And his stance on brexit has been so toxic anyone would think he personally had a fortune invested in the eu! I wouldn’t trust as far as I could throw him, and considering I only have the use of one arm that’s not very far!
@@christinef5785 We have really benefitted since we left the EU. Definitely improved everyones lives. Hesteltine is an insightful man. More than the average racist brexit voter
I remember my mortgage interest rate going up to 15% when he was in government in the 1980s. He did nothing about that, typical politician, all talk but can't do.
Heseltine was a bit of a tool in his day, but many aspects of his views on this interview are correct. We've got major trouble ahead in this country - in the form of households being dropped into poverty because of spiralling inflation. It's happening now yet not many households have the appetite to take notice.
Maybe the interviewer thinks money can go to tori councils only 😂. The government is daft enough not to give money to anybody just in case non tori councils do something good
I have time for Michael Heseltine...but it worries me that he refers only to the regeneration of England. What about the other countries? This says to me that Scotland would be better by ourselves. Things are way too England-centric.
Pity he didn't have the same attitude about letting the banks fail for their 2008 incompetence that ended up costing us directly and indirectly 1.5 trillion pounds (nearly 1 trillion in QE alone that's never been paid back) Frankly the problems now are a bargain compared with bailing out the ill-deserved finance sector, ^oo^
Helstine doesn't need to remind the Bodger about that famous 68 report on regeneration, he is probably brushing up on the finer details out in Marbella as we speak.
I've got a lot of time for Lord Heseltine, but he is wrong on this. As a citizen of Wales, I can tell him devolution is not the way to fix things, it seems there is not enough talent spread around the regions. it could be argued there is not much talent at HQ either!
Why did people vote for brexit ? Why did people vote for Boris Johnson? I really didn't get then. But I'm not happy that I was right. Very sad times to come
The Conservative party should listen to Lord Heseltine . A man of substantial experience and ability . Instead they appear determined to jump off the Brexit cliff encouraged by the emperor with no clothes , the Charlatan , Johnson . The government has palpably not taken back control . It’s lurching from Brexit crisis to Brexit crisis. Weak and rudderless.
He would not accept the offer due to his age. But replace the PM with a better person (someone like Anna Soubry) and make Lord Heseltine his/her adviser.
As a pensioner I am worried green zealots pushing up prices, energy, food council tax all going up. Annuities, savings slashed with pathetic rates, we’ve lost £48,000 due to the delay of my wife’s pension, now the triple lock cancelled and NI going up. So much for working hard, trying to save and stand on our own feet. The Tories have abandoned the poor and the old, they have lost my vote, and Labour despite their bluster have done bugger all for me too. So I shan’t bother voting unless the army take over at least I think they will do a better job. UK r.I.p.
“Other advanced economies”, with the notable exception of the US, are not as extremely right wing as the current government. Co-operation and mutual support are what made humans the predominant species - not dog-eat-dog capitalism. The prosperity of the EU is a shining example. We have stupidly chosen to turn our backs on that, and put tariff barriers between ourselves and the bloc with which we do 50% of our trade, as well as kicking out many of our key workers. Little Englanders have won. They will have their Little England.
We are reaping what we have sowed over many decades. The majority of those decades 70% since world war 2 have been lead by conservative governments. The story is out, this is why Boris is now trying to claim a new narrative, levelling up, version 2.0 of the northern power house. Again Boris can only also blame previous conservative governments as they have been in power for so long, who else can he blame, it is clear we have serious systemic issues with the country and economy, do not compare ourselves to Italy or others. Post war Britain had industrial strength an advanced economy and the benefit of the English language which was a jewel in crown as allows us to be able to export throughout the world in our native language!
Great man who really loves his country & talks great sense. Why nobody listens, i dont know why , his experience is evident & his knowledge fast . I heard breit remainers say he only cares about his business & there interests in Europe , which is ridiculous. Im actually Irish , so a lot of these matters dont effect me .
If this poor excuse for a ex minister was Chancellor every body would be very worried .even having voted tory for 65 years this man is the worst politician ever i n my opinion .Nothing but a over rich HYPOCRITE
This leveling up thing has not been defined as yet. It means different things to different people in different areas of the country. Its a nebulous term.
Heseltine was found to be a big criminal and got away with it because he could not attend Court because he had a weak heart, 40 years ago! Then because he knew where many skeletons were he was given a Lordship! beggers belief!!!
Local governments are even more authoritarian and corrupt than centralised government. The very worst thing to do is give more power to local government. What we need is less government and less control over our lives. Prosperity was created by low interest rates, not by regional political 'initiatives'.
He’s the biggest crook ever, a me , me, fill my pocket politician, he disgusts me and all the people who lost our careers through his decisions so he could make his best friends £ millions.
The collocation is thick and fast. We spend a fortune on his education, and he struggles to speak properly. A classic case of a Tory educated beyond his intelligence.
the tory party has left the likes of hesltine behind its a far right party now and sliding further right daily, the weird thing is despite being on the left i share more in common wth hesletine than he does with rees mogg and co,, the christian one nation torries need to get there party back or join the pogressive opposition
Boris fancies himself as a Churchill figure hence his flowery speeches. But Churchill could make the big decisions and stand by them. BoJo says we're not going to do that then 3 weeks later he changes his mind and does it. Imagine if he'd been PM in 1940? We'd all be speaking German now.
Hilarious. He starts out by levelling criticism at Labour because all they want to do is throw money at problems. He then goes on to explain how his solution to regeneration in the 80s was basically to throw money at the problem. Then he says that the solution today is devolution of funding and strategy to the local regions, but finishes off by saying that this would only work if it is tightly controlled and fully approved by central government departments! That's a very peculiar definition of devolution! This guy is an absolutely typical politician, he thinks his ideas are a marvellous new and different approach, but in truth its the same old rubbish that doesn't work. He was a major political force in the 80s, how many people now think the 80s were a marvellous success apart from him?
What should alarm people bout this interview is the fact that Trevor Phillips seems not to like Boris and his Government being criticised. This country's media has become no more than a mouthpiece for the Government and is the main reason why we are in the situation we are now in.
This isn't a criticism, just an observation. As someone from the Isle of Wight iI've never heard the Isle of Wight called "The bottom of the solent" before. Interesting.
Heseltine says that palliatives are never temporary when the the government has just ended the palliative increase in tax credits long before the crisis is really anywhere near being over.
