Not many players born over seas and all grew up in NZ. I don't care, but if you were to differentiate Lowe, Park and Aki didn't grow up in the system in Ireland. Pretty awesome to see their success and development after they went over though. Ireland's done a good job. People always assume the island boys and maori boys are born overseas whereas nearly always they are born in NZ. NZ has the biggest pasifika population in the world. Bigger than those in the islands. And of course Māori are indigenous
Theirs a big difference between Irish internationals playing for the ABs than Pacifica players that are skooled through the NZ system. Nor only that but many have returned to further enhanced their home nations which by default includes Ire
@@Tom_McMurtry Tom, I not here for an indigenous rant only to differentiate a geographical talent pool of where players evolve from. We don't seem to have a demand to recruit Ire players by contrast!?
I agree with your comments, I think Damien McKenzie needs to prove himself in the big games and disappointed Cam Roigard not on the bench. Ethan Blackadder should be at least in the reserves.
No Dmac doesn't need to prove anything he dose what he dose best with ball in hand he lights up that back line better than mo'unga. of course to Different skill sets. Dmac brings that X Factor from the chiefs.
My 2 cents worth as I don't see these selections as mistakes, surprised yes but not mistakes: 1 - Blackadder has just come off a lengthy injury break, I too am a big Blackadder fan but can appreciate that he needs time to play himself into contention. A sudden death 1/4 final isn't that time. 2 - Roigard has probably done enough to play himself into the 23, but they have opted for a defensively stronger option to combat the Irish attacking the channel off the ruck plus his experience. This one could have gone either way though. 3 - Telea got what he deserved, Fozzie's tenure as AB's coach is over within the next 4 weeks so he could have just made an exception to the rule and let the standards slip just this once as has nothing to lose. However he didn't and made the difficult decision to uphold the AB's high standards. I am a Telea fan too, but if these guys aren't holding each other to account, we will fail fast. 4 - Leinert Brown covers 12 & 13 off the bench, Leicester coming off the bench would be playing out of position in a sudden death RWC which as we know has always ended in disaster for us. No-one playing out of position for this one. 5 - Ofa and Nepo unlucky, but Ethan and Tyrell along with Cody is our best starting front row with good and impactful cover coming off the bench. This team will get the job done by 10-12 as are heavily motivated to do so and Sam will get his revenge on O'Mahony from the 2022 series.
There's only one selection that continues to concern me and it's the one NZ Rugby made nearly 4 years ago, the incompetent coach. It doesn't matter who is selected to play on the day because they once mighty All Blacks are under-prepared as usual and they lack confidence when put under even the slightest pressure, let alone what the Irish will bring this weekend. The most recent example was against Italy where, sure, the All Blacks played a Sevens style of footy and racked up nearly 100 points against a very poor Italian side, but what really concerns me is that only twice did Italy manage to get enough ball to put pressure on the All Blacks and both times they scored. Me, I hate to say it but I want to All Blacks to be utterly humiliated in this game, absolutely thrashed. Only then will the hammer come down on NZ Rugby. It's one thing to appoint a proper coach for next year, a winning coach, but if major changes are not made at the highest levels then they could so easily find ways or sabotaging Robertson and the game in general, as they have been doing for some years now. I can't wait for this ghasty horror story to be over and done with and a blind dog with a note in it's mouth could easily have predicted an early ending to this RWC even 4 years ago.
@@MrWillt100 .....yeah well you carry on accepting poor results and embarassing losses, some of us have standards of excellence and judging by a comment like yours, you have none to speak of. So let's see how your mate Foster turns out this weekend shall we, he's the consummate loser.
Think you’re wrong about DMac, Richie has looked poor against tight defences too at times. I think our forwards are better than last year and will provide a better platform to give our inside backs more time.
I think New Zealand is in a win-win situation. If the Abs beat Ireland, we go to the semi final. If the ABs lose, the Foster era is finished and we inherit Razor!
I'd rather see Dmac start at 15, run riot in first half and bring BB on for 2nd. Papalii has solid form v ireland past 3 games and should get 60m. Talea ahead of Leicester for mine, he's slippery like an eel. def agree that christie the conservative choice, roigaard is confident and scores tries!
I can’t see any selection issues, it’s literally the team that smashed South Africa only 2 months ago. But this team has more power than that one, with Leicester on the wing. The AB’s are at full strength.
35-20 means smashing to you? Wow okay. The smashing was in Twickenham 35-7. Other than that the bench lacks impact, do hopefully NZ doesn't end up chasing the game too much. Because that's not full strength.
Roigards passing is what went against hiim. He was erratic and scattered delivering the ball against uruguay. I think he played his way out of the black jersey.
Cuz didnt you get some of your selections wrong. Sam Cane had a head & shoulders game. He was simply superb. Agree with Roigard tho. Telea was suspended so how can he be selected Cuz. Anton had a huge 15 or so minutes some of the tackles he made were crucial in the last 5 mins. Well we know ABs won and selections including the bench were spot on.
Mark Telea is out for "disciplinary" reasons, Roigard is still too raw and not as safe as Christie under pressure. Blackadder hasn't had a lot of game time and probably not up to play a pressure game. I think the selections are based on a safe option given Ireland are such a solid team and will exploit any weakness. I agree Sam Cane shouldn't be there but maybe he will put in a blinder and show us why the selectors stick with him. At the end of the day the selectors know more and know better than all the armchair experts so we should put our faith in them.

Obviously, Fossie and his team didn't watch your last video on the 2nd q-final. I suppose they know better. More anxiety than ever for one AB fan. I hope they will be proven to be unfounded.
Ethan hasn't had enough game time coming back from injury and Dalton has played too well to be played out of his spot. Cane brilliant at break down and dominant in tackle. Combines well and a cool head.
You are the kind of critic that ends up looking stupid when the all blacks pull through. Never doubt our boys. At least have some kind of optimism mate. Disappointing.
Tough break for Telea and Samisoni, they deserve this game but cant complain with Leicester or Coles. But Roigard was robbed!! Interesting take with Cane/Blackadder, have to agree.
Marko I’m a kiwi living in Sydney. I totally agree with you and your suggestions thats what i thought as well before the announcement. This is the last game for Foster and Cane. Hoping for a miracle.
Now. Now. SH. Worry Oozing out of your Thoughts. Just Accept it. Ireland going for Record 20 Wins. And a Gold Cup to Bring Home for the LEPRECHAUNS. Go home and Rebuild. No Shame in that. We done it 4 years ago. So can you. Especially with all the Irish Ancestry in your Blood 🩸
Totally agree. A captain should command his position in the team. Sam Cane never has or indeed the 33. He would be about 5th best 7 in NZ and plays more like a 6 but is not big enough and lacks ball carrying skill and gets to many cards. Please, no more learnings.
Think you’re wrong about Lester F. We need a specialist in the centres and ALB is exactly that and has done it for us before. He understands the plays and as a specialist knows how to communicate and lead the centre defence. His playing data is also brilliant. I think he is the man for the job. His defence is great too.
Hard to believe Ian Foster has left Mark Telea out of the squad in a do or die fixture, it must of been a bit more serious than going down to the shop after 9pm! Telea was favourite to be top try scorer pre tournament , surely Foster should of dropped him to the bench, if it was a simple "He breached the protocol, nothing major". Thats a major blow for the KIWIS
I think what some people fail to remember is that, this is the same team that went to Ellis Park and in a do or die match and found a way to win when many thought the ABs were done for after having a poor run of form and three losses on the bounce. They found a way to win at altitude in front of a hostile crowd… And I think we will see a similar performance this weekend by the ABs. They know this is do or die - that’s why I’m tipping them to get the job done. New Zealand by 7 +
yikes, your mistake was doubting the AB's and Fozzie, so glad you have no say in anything AB's related :) go continue to support IRE, they need your continued support watching the rest of the cup from their couch
As an IRE fan, NZ is always the team to.beat. Sure, we've won recently, but we will need to do something special against this NZ XV. I'm confident in our scrum, breakdown, distribution, tackling and decoy running. Im sure NZ will match us in the lineout, and their defense is also very good. Where NZ has an edge, is broken open field play. Nobody does that as well as the ABs. France are also excellent here. The crowd will make a difference. Practically a home game for IRE, and we will have lots of French fans on our side. But, Nz in a knock out WC game? Im expecting some magic from them Can't call it. 50/50 . COYBIG ☘️!, and hope nobody gets injured.
I disagree. Finaly is in because of his experience and his ability on defense, and his ability to read the game. Cam Roigard has been amazing against teams were the scoreline has been 50+. He's unproven against the top tier teams. Mark Telea has been stood down, because he violated team protocol. Faianga'nuku will be perfect against Ireland, he's basically a fourth loose forward. Sam Cane is a monster, people don't see what he does on the field. He makes his tackles, he clears out rucks and leads by example.
This commentary adds nothing worthwhile to the team selection discussion. The reasons for the selections would have been based on much more rigorous analysis than this critic who admits himself that he is no expert. For example in relation to the selection of Christie, he is acknowledged to be stronger in defense than Roigard. All tries against the ABs in this tournament have been scored in the second half. Fosters strategy could well be getting a lead in the first half and holding onto it.
Yep I totally agree the selectors selected the team and not just Foster. I believe all these arm chair selectors need to get some sort of counseling are they'll do themselves irreparable harm@@HeeniKeke
Fosters only made needed changes when they've been forced on him! He has zero vision for what the game could be! Not convinced with Blackadder either. Telea should have started but he was a naughty boy. Roigard definitely should have been on the bench.
Thanks for that, I am up to speed on that now. Would like a little more transparency from team NZ on this one, I am sure we will find out after the game so no distractions.
Not sure why you are surprised Mark - what more can you expect from Fozzie? Sam Cane is the Captain of the ABs - so it would be difficult to see him being dropped from the 15. Not having Roigaard there is just plainly criminal from the selectors! What a disgrace!
You are 100% correct, but it shouldn't have to be this way. No one would have been surprised for Cane to have been replaced after two send-offs and kicking a pitch invader earlier this year. Instead we now find ourselves relying on a serial penalty magnet at a critical time.
If NZ try and start trying to play too much rugby in their own half it will be a huge mistake. Ireland will stop them at source either with a turnover or a penalty. Ireland can win games without dominating possession , they are probably the most clinical team once they get into the red zone.
This is the best team Fozzie could pick with the players in his squad. And I'm lovin it. Roigard has x factor and will be the AB's half back in the future, but not just yet. His execution and choices need more experience. Blackadder just free 12000 kms and may not quite be at full fitness he will feature in the semis and/ or final. Papalii is in the best form I have seen him play. Williams and Newell is a gutsy brave selection but pleased foz is trying something new it's refreshing...bring it on.
I agree totally with your selection "mistakes" three men who are all 3 dimensional thinkers and who hunt for and FIND chinks in the defences armour can make or break a game. Roigard would relish the physicality of this game and Lenert Brown , yes should give way to Faiuunuku a multiple position player with Mark Telea he starting wing. Agree totally with your changes - lineouts will be crucial so Blackadder even for 30 minutes could make a huge difference. Ardie of course should be captain - proven leader of men by example. However constant 180 degree changes of attack thru blindside and superior camaraderie, superb fitness and sheer speed should see All Blacks blaze to a comfortable win. These collective thinkers always have something up their sleeves other than just elbows to distract opponent's defensive plans. Go ABS
BB . Cole's and cane shouldn't even in France Reiko is a better wing Jordan should full back the younger hooker should be at least in the 23 Ardie should be 7 Blackadder 8 thank God this picking friends over talent should be over after this game roigard nearly starts in my team I've been watching All blacks for 60 years fancy picking your Captain before super rugby had even kicked off that was his first mayor mistake why because Sam's a nice bloke no no
Yes I would've liked telea to start he is a strong runner difficult to bring down also roigard and blackhader cause Sam cane is not really good I would make ardie the captain
Scott Barrett starting is a mistake His low IQ brain explosions, where he got red carded last time against Ireland could cost us the game. Roigard not being on the bench is dumb. I can see they are looking to destroy the Ireland scrum which I think they will do. Blackadder off the bench would have been good. (Inside word is that Telea has a niggling injury. They are saying it was a breach of protocol, which I think was because he was very late to one of their meetings/trainings)
You are not up to speed about team discipline re Telea and defensive abilities of Christie over Kam R . Didn't you watch Foster's conference? Hope you are eating humble pie by late Saturday evening.
Telea is out due to breach of protocol but the big one I can’t get my head around is how he left Cam Roigard out. I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us.
Cam Roigard should definitely be on the bench. Cane out, Scott Barrett captain. 7 should be Ardie. 8 should be Papalii. Jacobsen or Blackadder on the bench. Ioane to left wing. Jordan to centre, Talea to right wing (stupid to punish the team in a vital game for one player's indiscretion). But, Fozzie just fumbles his way into obscurity.
@100pcent6 Roigard might be a good option and Blackadder on the bench but Ardie should be captain not Barrett or Cane. IMO I would start Papalii and bench Cane. Definitely wouldn't put Ioane on the wing. Foster made ok choices for the wingers.
As a neutral fan I’m not too familiar with Cane’s disciplinary record, i think it goes with all 7’s, but I have been saying for sometime Cane is a weak link in the AB pack. He was exposed badly in the game against the boks in London. Frizz & Savea will cover up the cracks in his game but ……..
I disagree and agree with you. I disagree with you saying Talea to start over Leicester, reason being, Leicester is a stronger ball carrier in contact, he is strong at the ruck and better on defence. He can cover both wings and 13 (not 12). This leads me to my next point in Anton Linort Browns selection because there are on 4 players in the squad that can cover 12 and 13 that being Jordie Barrett, Ioane, ALB and Havili. Out of those 4 two of them are starting and out of the other two ALB has shown more form! Christie is definitely the best defensive half in yge Abz, so im guessing the boys are confident they can turn Ireland away for the first 60min and then close them out in last 20min. Roigard definitely has deserved a spot but i thought lastweek he was slightly off with some if his kicks, and pass selections... my opinion.
Finlay might be the better choice over Roigard. Irish is very good on turn overs, if Roigard runs and gets it wrong it could cost the All Blacks 7 points. Finlay a bit more consistent which is what you need in a knockout game. I also think Roigard is the better attacking scrum half, but needs to learn when to carry and do his dashes a bit more with out the pressure of this quarter final. Big teams target inexperienced players also.
Foster will persister with Bauden Barret who kicked and kicked and gave away possession in the loss against the French. Mckenzie has been playing way better and sets the backline on fire. He also links well with Cam Roigard who should be in the starting line up or at least on the beach. The ABs need to keep possession and run it. If Bauden Barret kicks possession away we will lose! Simple as that!
Interesting comment and it made we go back and watch the french game again. we might see a different strategy from the AB's backs across the 80mins, hence DMAC on the bench, thanks for your comment
But as you said, its the Black Jersey, it will be an epic battle, look forward to it, Thanks for your insights but All Blacks all day ;) Kia Kaha Boys!!!
One stand out player who beat six Springboks to score only try in a beaten ABs team Cam Roigard then man of match in next game.Every player has short moments of brain fade classic example Beauden Barrett kicking the ball dead when players outside him and they drop one player who should be starting as Irish have beaten Aaron Smith so many times they know his plays.Big mistake.
Beauden should have been a bench player from years back - But Fosters ego - he won't drop Cane or Beauden - hell he owes them his job - BB can no longer beat any decent defender - can't fend, can't step , can't change timing , only speed and acceleration -which is not enough- as much better people doing that . That would be fine - if BB could check his ego thinking he can create tries from useless kicks - to being the best setup guy ever - Was way too slow to cover that try VS Uruguay - saw the try being scored way before it happen - due to BB pitiful jog across field
@@firmfoundation7421 If you started with those 3 - may not even make the bench in place of Dmac - suppose he has to as knows the systems for 10 and 15, and 14 best
Hard to comprehend really. He has been x factor like when hes played and provides impact which we havent had off our bench for several years. Fozzie said in the presser that Christie adds more on defence. Roigard will be our starting 9 for years to come and Christie will fade away and probably end up playing for Scotland in a few years.
Roigard missing out is the only surprise for me. Hes fast and strong very attacking mindset. So thought him coming on with Big D would finish off the game nicely
To be fair to Cane, he was in pretty good form in the tests at the start of the year. He plays a tighter 7 game than some and likes the tough stuff. He may allow Savea to thrive a little more in the open. Also, Cane is strong in the area of clearing bodies and creating faster ruck ball. I’m pleased they have kept Ofa out. He’s a defensive liability and is targeted by smart ball playing opposition forwards, like the Irish have. The Irish will target our passive back line D pattern and back themselves to punch holes in the channel around Reiko. We need to shut down Sextons space and time or it could be a long night for the ABs. If I’m the ABs I’m kicking the ball out more than usual and I’m attacking the Irish line out and making them restart their starter plays from different parts of the field. I can’t wait, it’s going to be epic.
I agree, Reiko's defence isn't up to par, Ofa is a penalty liability against Sexton who can kick from anywhere, as we saw in the Sth Africa game, it came down to kicks at goal. The game could have gone eitherway. This will be one of those games, but, All Blacks all day :)
Ian Foster has come out into the open and vilified Telea for breaking the teams protocol! But he and his coaching team aren't saying anything about David Havili's where abouts. David Havili has a lot to offer the All Blacks, both on defence, and attack. Since Foster has been in charge of the team, no one has been allowed to speak to the media, or us their fans, and supporter's. I believe that this half the reason why the team isn't performing at the high standards that All Blacks teams are well known for, and why their fans worldwide are at a loss as to what's happening behind the scene of the most talk about brand, (ALL BLACK'S,) in world sports. It Looks Like That The Whole All Blacks Team, And Their Brand Have Been Put Under Fosters Curfew Protocol.
Telea broke curfew (and not by a little bit) during preparations for what may well be the greatest match of RWC 2023... Breaking curfew shows immaturity and a lack of respect for the All Blacks. Talented as he may be if he can't commit and focus to team standards and rules that is a weak spot in Telea. All Blacks need total commitment from all. Fainga'anuku I believe is an excellent choice in place of Telea and will prove his worth. Springbok's sent home one of their 9's or 10's earlier this year for violations of team protocols.
Wish that reserve bench had Riogaard and Blackadder. The team selection from Ian Forster well this could be his last pitch as Abs coach and he is gone with what he knows. As always he is very predictable. I don't see anything that will catch the Ireland team by surprise. I believe Blackadder and Riogarrd would have presented a different picture and threat to the Ireland team. Leicester Fainga'anuku on the bench or even if the ABs did something radical Reiko to the left wing and Leicester Fainga'anuku as 13. They will target Reiko as the play off their 9 and 10, the forwards wrap around the corner and send traffic his way. Leaving Mark Telea out of the team for breaking team protocol! Wow - really. This is the world cup isn't the idea to win.
The best thing is Lomax will play. De groot got outscrummed by France then the card, I hope his head is switched on by now and he fronts up to Porter, if so we’ll match their front row. Can’t drop captain at QF WC time, it’d be a mental downer for us and an up for them. Cane is an experienced WC player and there’s no one better as captain. Ardie made a bad call to kick it short in the dying minutes v England, probably cost us the win. Sam Whitelock doesn’t seem to want it that much hence his ‘junior’ partner Barrett captains Crusaders. There’s no one else up to it imo. I feel kinda grateful Cane has taken that leadership role on his shoulders and he hasn’t made bad calls. We have a lot of experience but not that many leaders imo, as in guys who can and will back themselves to problem solve on the fly and change things up, we haven’t adapted in game when needing to. That’s also been behind our lack of composure under pressure and consequent inconsistency. Cane showed in SR, when injury free he’s very good, big work rate and defence and some crucial jackals. No other NZ 7 has shown he’s better and Blackadder didn’t have the up to speed game time to impress imo. Frizell’s evolution is big for the team, balances our back row and less pressure on Cane. Fainganuku cannot be nervy and hesitant like his test debut, this is an even bigger pressure game, he has to step up because his power game bending defence and over the ball could be pretty influential. I like Roigard’s confidence, he would’ve been the more positive selection but let himself down in the last game with inaccuracy and i’ll buy Christies extra experience comes with better defensive nous and we should be aiming to be defending a lead via our (cunning Joe schmidt!) strike plays not chasing one, since Ireland are so well structured and have the composure to defend a lead at the death that we used to have but now seem to lack.
As an AB fan...I find your Fozzie bashing repulsive and most divisive. Clearly like all Kiwis... you are panicking andonly foresee defeat for them. Its a shame. You are still welcome to the victory party 😊
I disagree respectfully wud play whitelock..retalli k as locks..loosies barrett ..ardie..frizzell..agree telea shud b der however beadie sud b benched wth jordan at fullback also roigarth nd samisoni as subs nt cane n cristie
Apparently its a conduct issue with Telea breaking curfew or something, but hey its a crunch game theres no second chances here he should be playing, and Roigard is a huge mistake Christie is nothing special he doesn't bring as much to the game as Roigard and i agree Blackadder brings mongrel and thats what we need, hate to say it Ireland will make their first semi...
Win or lose against Ireland the NZ public do not believe in Foster. NZRU have undermined him too I believe in not wanting him putting his name forward for another term.
Talea ruled out for breaking curfew protocol. The team selected could win but again it's not a squad that has consistently played together under pressure and as we know, that usually doesn't end well for the AB's in recent years. Ireland will have to be off their game for us to have a chance. Openside needs to be able to pillage the ball to unleash our broken play attack, I'm fairly confident Sam Cane won't excel in that role like we need him to.
