Joining us this week on geohug is Ian Honsberger from the Geological Survey of Canada to chat with us about Orogenic Gold Systems of Newfoundland, Canada: Making and Breaking Rocks Through Time.
Paleozoic terranes in the Canadian Appalachians are bounded and cut by deep-reaching fault zones that host orogenic gold systems. In central Newfoundland, such fault systems extend for more than 400 km northeast-southwest. The scale of faulting and patterns of structurally controlled gold mineralization in central Newfoundland resemble world-class orogenic gold systems globally.
