His music BEFORE he changed styles and moved to Seattle was his best. In my opinion, he threw his career in the toilet by going from soul searching rock, to boring ass folk music. I am a HUGE fan of his music from him Austin, TX days. His Seattle era music for me was blahhhhh.....
Brad Cooney Even his guitar tone was best back then when he was playing through that Blackface Super Reverb he's sitting on in the album cover photo above. That first CD is a rare flawless work of art from start to finish. There's not a weak cut on it, an entire album of "A" sides. I've never seen such a truly gifted musician. His live shows in the early days were more like religious experiences than concerts. You knew you were in the presence of greatness and party to something transcendent and special. Why he threw all that away to become just another dime a dozen singer/songwriter type I'll never understand. He talks like he doesn't have regrets, but I bet he does.
I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I LOVE HIS MUSIC, THERE IS SO MUCH SOUL IN IT. IN 2000-2005, I WAS IN SUCH A BAD, BAD PLACE IN MY LIFE, JUST SUCKED INTO THE VORTEX OF CHAOS, FROM DECEMEMBER 2005-2018 TODAY, THE DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE NOW IS SO, SO MUCH BETTER DIFFERENT, SOBER, JESUS IS WALKEN WITH ME AND I WITH HIM, BUT I REMEMBER WHEN I WOULD LISTEN TO THIS BACK THEN , AND THE DIFFERENCE IN LISTENING NOW, IT IS PROFOUND, THANK YOU JESUS AND THANK YOU FATHER GOD FOR CREATING THIS YOUNG MAN AND BLESSING HIM WITH HIS GIFT OF MUSIC, KEEP GOING , NO MESS NO MESSAGE, BLESSING TO ALL
@tomasto351 Buy it again--I have many times--simply one of the best under the radar records I have ever heard--it is church rock--a spine grabbing, foot on the floorboard gospel blues clinic---
