at around 42:40 you talk about the satin "matte" finish on the Prestige 2402 TFF, stating a high gloss is a more expensive process. However, the satin finish is actually sprayed over the already high gloss underneath, so technically an additional step in finishing process. After playing this guitar for a few months the satin unfortunately starts to rub off showing the shiny gloss underneath, which looks bad and is very surprising given the $2000 price tag.

@EytschPi42 You need to put these up against their true competition(Suhr Classic/Standard pro,Anderson,James Tyler,PRS,Music Man,etc...) ,A/B them and give us your honest opinion.A real shoot out like the car magazines do.Thats the only way you can really know.Everything sounds decent on its own... I just thought about scraping every last penny together and buy one from that range, because these seem to be the cheapest guitars with stainless steel frets at the moment. Sadly they only have two configurations and the color/spec combinations are unalterable. I would prefer an HSH in Tequila Sunrise.

The AZ's HH models 5 th position has one the best ( all around) 5th positions I've ever heard. I could live on the setting all night..Great for chords and for leads.. I would not miss the single coil pickup..

Henning, Love your videos. Bought an AZ 2204 Sunburst. I also own a Suhr Guthrie spec. Wow, the AZ is totally amazing and every bit the quality of the Suhr. Before I received it, was concerned about the Hyperion pickups. The balance of these pickups solved some tonal problems. Allows a player to build tone from scratch. Very transparent, they really exceeded my expectation. In this video, what is the brand name of black and blue sweater you are wearing, I want one of those. Oh by the way, Martin really needs some new jeans. Is he not gigging enough to buy some. Keep up the good work.

Wish Ibanez would get with it and get rid of the old fashioned truss rod adjustment and put a spoke wheel at the neck body. It's really makes much more sense and your don't need to worry about losing your tool as you can adjust it with anything. Also are these 2 way truss rod? Don't say on Ibanez site

I have a question: Henning says that the HH version sounds snappier, more suitable for metal than the HSS version. But isn‘t the „Hyperion“ bridge pickup the same on both guitars? Did I miss something?

I'm not a believer in tone wood on electric guitars so I would say the only difference in sound between any of them regardless of premium or prestige would be the pickup configuration hh or ssh

It'll be interesting to try the slightly narrower string spacing. Most, if not all Ibanez S-style guitars have been 54mm E to E, and the new AZ will be 52.5mm... 52.5mm might be theoretically faster between strings with a pick, but will be more cramped for finger-style playing. The old 54mm was a nice in-between measurement... like half-way between Fender Mexi and Fender USA spacings. No volute :-( A volute is a thing of beauty... even if it's not necessary! Still excited to try these!

The size of the trem block really makes a huge difference to me. I just replaced the one that came with my mid 80s Floyd with a large brass block and instantly got a bit more sustain and what I could only qualify as a tighter sound. The whole thing feels more stable. The large "Fat Brass" block is 32$ US from Floyd directly. No brainer in a 1200 Euro guitar to put in a similar one IMO... I'm with Henning on this one.

Can you do that on all trems or just on Floyds?

I would guess it would depend on the model but it's certainly not exclusive to Floyds. You do have to remove all strings and springs in the back cavity and remove the trem. I had to remove all the saddles as well (which I was changing to for Graphtech replacements) as the 3 screws that hold the block are under them. Then you need to put it all back and redo the guitar's intonation which I'm used to so no big deal for me. In my case, I needed to do it from scratch as the saddles have a slightly different shape than the ones that came with the Floyd (which had already been changed at least a coulpe other times before :). You might be able to mark their position on the trem first before your remove them if you put the same ones back after changing the block.

I've heard in this video and others that the only AZ with HSS config without a Pickguard is Master Quayle's. Does anyone know the story behind the AZ2206S model? Much love and respect Mr PH!

The trem block is the standard 510T block as used on $5K Tylers ,sounds good .listen with your ears not your eyes. The trem may be cheaper but it is not worse , just as you can get many options for the 510( almost the same) the price changes according to the material cost.

I COLLECT AND LOVE ALL OF THE 80'S ERA IBANEZ GUITARS LIKE THE PGM'S, THE JS'S, JPM'S, AND THE CLASSIC RG'S BUT I HAVE TO SAY THSES ARE THE FIRST IBANEZ GUITARS I HAVE BEEN ACTUALLY EXCITED ABOUT IN YEARS. I'M GOING TO BUILD A COUPLE OF THESE AND KEEP THEM FOR MYSELF. ONE WITH THE BAKED MAPLE NECK AND ONE WITH A ROSEWOOD/PADUKE MULTI LAMINATE NECK. REALLY STOKED ON THIS VIDEO, MARK IS A BRILLIANT PLAYER AS IS HENNING HOPE I SPELLED HIS NAME RIGHT. WHAT A COOL COUPLE OF GUYS THEY ARE AND AN AMAZING STUDIO. 10/27/2021: I am looking at buying an Ibanez EH10 Matt Green. The neck pickup is a telecaster pickup, so with the coil tap toggle switch separating bridge humbucker pickup, per putting the toggle switch in the middle position, I now have S-S. Can I get Quacky Country Twang sound with this S-S?

If I want to review it and form an opinion on it, then I have to play it... my viewers want to know what I think... so I have to find out what I think, don't I? I think that steel blocks should be the baseline and better guitars should be equiped with titanium, aluminium or brass blocks. I mean, Vintage by Wilkinson has steel blocks on all their strat-like guitars that are just 320 euro’s. Same thing about ceramic pick-up’s, all guitars above 400 euro should all have Alnico pickups these days.

if you can't lock the strings at the nut how do you tune this guitar? doesn't the other strings go out of tune when you tune a string?

Daniel Lievemaa yes. You just have to retune several times until the trem tension balances

It works the same way as any other floating tremolo, with or without the locking nut. Either way, if you change the tension on one string, the others will go out of tune. It's always going to be an iterative process until it's in tune unfortunately :P

Just got the topaz burst premium. Ordered it online. Not at all happy with the quailty for price. Got it on sale for 1500AUD. To compare I have a 300AUD squire tele also built in Indonesia and an Ibanez iron label 8 that was about 900AUD. Both the IR and the tele have a better quailty build. The AZ has tiny chips in the fretboard on half of the frets, the low 4 strings have some bad fret buzz. The hole for the truss road hasn't been rounded and has little bits of off cut on it. The frets on the high end aren't rounded enough. QC is shit house here.
