I sympathise with you, they look so "Pretty in Pink" Joking aside, i have one, but they do need a lot of upgrading to bring them close to the Jem 7V, the pickups and especially the trem are the weakspots.
I LOVE your videos man, you seem to be having so much fun, which makes me feel like I could be having that much fun by buying THAT guitar! You are the perfect guy to be in these videos that feel more like infotainment than commercial. Cheers from across the pond!
Super helpful man, I love this channel so much, even the comments were super helpful, plus I effing love watching you shred, I keep stopping to screen record with the determination to replicate the licks you do 🤘
I saw and played with one in this same color scheme at Sam Ash in Orlando yesterday evening. For 499.99 with a case. Great deal! Brought out the cash and took her home! Treat your guitar like you should your lover. Get inside her 3 times a day and take her to heaven and back! But never go to sleep mad at her/him.
For what I've heard, a bridge replacement is a must for this guitar, as it wears out so quickly. Apart from that, I personally don't like pickups with that much output, but I understand these are Vai's specs
I'm definitely changing the bridge for the gotoh ge GE1996T 100% pickups are average definitely changing them too at some point, only thing I'm stressed with is? Has anyone managed to have there action on this guitar Low E under 2.5mm without buzz,I've tried n tried and just cant get lower action
Good guitar I'm definitely changing bridge for gotoh ge1996t next week my only problem is the action on the guitar? I cant get it lower the 2.5mm without buzz!! 2mm is fine 2.4mm is fine but still buzz on low E string I've tried adjusting the truss rod many times I've tried lots!! Just keeps buzzing on low E when I take it down even still at 2.5mm would kneck shim help? Any help from someone would be amazing I'm not sure if i should just set the guitar on fire thing is I like it but just want it to go abit lower on the action ever so slightly I no fret buzz is normal but not like this bad,my ibenez s521 was easy to adjust that's sitting at 2.4mm I'm happy with that, please help.
@@paulyoung4781 did you ever fix the fret buzz on the low E? If not then maybe the frets aren't leveled your best option is taking it to a guitar shop and see what they say.
@@totallynotjohn8083 hi mate,ye I did a fret leveling on my axe buddy last year! Thanks for asking mate, what a absolute dream it is now,low action can get it from 2.8 mm now to 1.8mm but I keep low E at 1.9mm for preference all up and down the kneck is super smooth now,iam due to give her a fret polish and lemon oil new strings and set the kneck,I got the gotoh 1996te to put on too, looking forward to setting this up in the next week, its definitely worth doing research on leveling it makes playing experience so much out this world!!! Thanks dude for ur comment much appreciated.
Agreed. Give it the maple with pyramid inlays and charge another $100 to $150 and i would have no choice but to buy a pink and a yellow one. Hell, imagine if they released a lochness green one too!
Never gonna happen because it would devalue the OG & 30th Anni 777s... Same with no Green variant. Coloured Vine inlays to match the body would have been nice too but that would have looked too similar to the 777V models
I advice getting the ibanez rg350dxz or the schecter sun Valley super shredder, the schecter costs a little much but it is worth it. The trem on the jem jr is trash, both of the above listed guitars are much better than the jem jr
I just bought this guitar used in white. it's fine but what's with the super high nut? I own gibson, kramer, jackson, other Ibanez, bc rich, fender, prs and others. none are that high at the nut. can I just buy a lower nut I mean so the strings will be lower at the first frets. I like low action and this would help the overall action. it's like 3 times to high. I will have to file down the groove were the strings sit or file down the wood under the metal nut but I dont like that because it wood mean it's stronger and I would take a lot off. all other guitar I have are 3 times lower, I would expect this on a Walmart guitar or something. I very suprised by this on a Ibanez. realy sucks. sorry for the bad spelling I am french. If I can get a lower one please give me the link for the righ one... anyone thanks.
iam stuck with white iam a lefty but thats ok i wanted a white guitar but will see if the jem stays in my collection once i get here and start playing it on my own rig setup
The tremolo system on these is hot garbage, a real shame as it's great for the money otherwise. Having a double locking tremolo that barely works at best is a big no-no.
I have this guitar and it has never kept in tune when using the ibanez trem, ive replaced locking nut, fine tuners and the saddle insert blocks, save your money up a bit more and get a jackson or a evh if your looking for a good floyd rose guitar
i had the white one for 5 years, amazing affordable instrument, only thing i didn’t like was the pickups, didn’t change them and sold it last year january, the new owner love it more than myself
@@bakarenibsheut12 I have a 2017 with stock trem and tuning stability is still fine. Proper set-up and a bit of periodic maintenance (check knife edges for burrs and posts for grooves) is all that's required. I fitted a set of Gotoh PSP springs to mine, for potentially better return to zero point
I've had mine with the stock bridge for 6 months, while it isn't perfect it's definitely playable. You don't have to get a new bridge right off the bat. Obviously a Gotoh is recommended.
@@burnedmyfoot The stock bridge will last until the knife edges wear out, then the tuning becomes erratic. How long the original lasts is down to how much you use the trem. You can upgrade the Jem Jr close to the 7v spec, but ibanez original parts are expensive.
@@Barbarapape I agree that it depends on how much of a Trem (ab)user you are wrt how quickly Knife Edges and Posts will wear. However, a bit of periodic maintenance can be all that is required. Check knife edges for burrs and posts for grooves at each string change and gently rectify with a needle/fret file. Job done. My 2017 Jr SP is still going strong with the stock bridge. My 2016 has a Gotoh GE1996T and it is undoubtedly a superior unit
@@ThePedroDB I agree that with sensible use and maintenace the stock bridge is capable, but the Gotoh is so much better and realy improves the tuning stability, this is a classic example of making a guitar down to a price point. All brands do it, it's also one way of them making more money when we buy a better bridge.
Thanks for this video bro! I really enjoy watching your reviews since you seem to have so much fun performing for us and showcasing the sonic capability of a guitar. You make a 15 minute video feel like 5 minutes. I've had this guitar for 6 months, it's great. The stock bridge could be better, tuning stability isn't the best, but it is very playable. I'll eventually get a higher quality bridge to stabilize the guitar. I installed a DiMarzio Gravity Storm in the bridge, which sounded much better to my ears than the stock bridge, it's preference. This guitar plays wonderfully, it's almost effortless to bend and vibrato, it just feels so nice to play anything on it. I'd highly recommend this guitar as a platform for modding with different pickups and hardware for your liking, It's very well built and will give you years of playing enjoyment. When it's set up properly and the fretboard is cleaned and polished, this guitar feels as good as the real JEM.
Hi Dagan. I was lucky enough to win one on th GGG site, I briught 5 tickets and won, I have been on there since Agust last year, and Only ever won 2 T-Shirts, I should sell on on eBay as they mast be worth more than the Jem Jr. anyway What a crazy week, On Monday I Had my 1st win on GGG a Boss RC 5 Lopper Staition, The I got the phone call i have been waiting for for ages, My Bungalow is ready for me to View and then If we like it, move in, My Healthe is Crap, 4 ops on my spin to repair 2 Disc all of which failed, so i am in Chronic pain daily then I was told I have another Disc blow so want to pencil me in for another op, I told them to run & Jump. not going through that again, so while haveing all these scans the saw a shadow on my lungs, but fourtunatlly it wasn't the Dreaded C word But instead it was COPD Emphysema, and Asthma, so now can't breathe after climbing to 73 steps to my flat on the 4th floor with no lift, So thats why I am leaving London after 63 years, But i will have fresh sea air to Breathe. oh almost forgot, I have Stage 3 Proste Cancer, But had Radiotherapy just before Lockdown. So on Tursday I won the Jem Jr on GGG so like a London Bus, you wait ages for one then 2 come along at the same time it is the Yellow One that should got well next to my Elecetron Green Players Fender Strat, one of 200 hundred made, so looking after that for my pension. But the amount i have spent on ticket i could have Brought myself a Custom Shop Gibson or Fender. anyway Dagan, keep up the great work I need to start to learn to play these babie I have 7 in total with a Fender Mustang GTX50 with the Fender 7 switch pedal with Looper List of Guitars 1st was my Gibson Les Paul Double Cutaway, Cherry red Purchased a Gator hard case to go with it 2nd was a Christmas 2008 draw on Planet Rock Radio, a Epiphone Firebird, with hard case 3rd Was the Fender Strat 4th a PRS SE 24 Custom 5th a PRS Mira 6th I Brought a Fender all Black Telecaster 7th The Jem Jr in Blinding Yellow So what do you think!!!! I am still in a few more compitions so hope it's not the last win, I have won 4 pedals too all the best Glen, In Waterloo for now, Dorset within a Month if I can get help to move me, I can't carry myself down the stairs let alone all the PC's and Guitar stash.
Telecasters have a particular "sparkly/twinkly" clean tone that you won't really get from anything else. The Jem Jr will do clean tones, but it won't do Telecaster clean tones.
I bought the white jem jr and the pickups output was very low,the bridge pickup was 7.75 and the neck was 7.52....Is this normal output or should it be more?
I was looking at one of these and my mate said that they are hard to keep as a main guitar and more as a secondary one he didint tell me why now I’m confused
Hey man, great playing and great review as always!! How do you do that small run at 9:17? its sounds really sweet and I would love to use it. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Ye but the action on them well my one is crazy for buzzing,I couldn't get it past 2.5mm low E even then I still have buzz when I play when not plugged in,I'd love to get low E to 2mm be so Easily better for my preference!! And I have tried everything?
@@ThePedroDB hi mate,ye I got it done buddy, what a difference i got a gotoh 1996te bridge installed too also, fret leveling was great process great experience great project i really enjoyed it,i still have small buzz but it's just electric guitar is it lol but cant hear nothing through amp!! But my low E is 1.9mm high E is 1.4mm wich is way way better for playing now,i could go even lower possibly but i think I'm happy with there for now buddy, are u happy since u have done urs too mate, makes a difference does it mate,it was a great experience taking all that knowledge in then applying it to the guitar!! Lease now no what to do in future? Only thing now I need to do is since the weather has changed since I adjusted guitar then,I'll need to tweak the guitar kneck abit of buzzing but its obviously just needing relief? Glad ur all good mate I think JEM JRS are great guitars I wouldnt get rid of mine, great tone great feel and great play from it buddy
Not on the Wolfgang Standard. The Floyd Rose "Special" is far from special. Probably the worst tuning stability of any DL Trem I own. Strings slip at the saddles due to soft Zinc Alloy construction. My Jr never did that...
