The Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer is a reissue that's just like the original in so many ways. Same housing, same famous seasick-green paint, and the same crankin' overdrive that made the original one of the all-time classic pedals. Guitar Player called it the best. Plug it in. Crank it up. You'll hear what all the fuss is about. Tone, drive, and level controls.

What a lot of guitar players don't seem to understand is the different uses for a distortion and an overdrive. A distortion is best used when being used in conjunction with a clean amplifier tone. An overdrive pedal is best used when used as a 'boost' to your tone with an already overdriven/distorted amplifier tone to give you that little bit extra for solos etc. That's what most players who use the TS9/TS808 use it for: as a booster to give you a bit extra for solos

Yeah, but many players prefer an overdriven gain over a distorted gain.

i use it to boost any sound i like and it makes me really like it lol, even presets on a fender mustang if im playing blues they have a tweed 57 twin amp preset and i use my ts9 to give it that little bit more mid push, same for my rvh 5150 pedal (ik that sounds dumb using a overdrive with a overdrive but the 5150 overdrive pedal is more of a amp in a box or distortion pedal then it is a overdrive pedal)

Bruh you could do whatever you want, there aren’t no rules😂 Play a distortion through a crunchy amp (i do that) Play an overdrive through a clean amp. Enjoy yourself

I used the TS9 with a JCM800 and it gave me the Randy Rhoads tone. Pretty much nailed it.

This is the first pedal that I bought back in the 1980's. It cost me a whopping 30 bucks. Can't really describe the tone that it produces, I've told people that it boost the sound and fills in the holes.

Use this in combination with a nice drive channel on your amp if you have one. Guitar into TS9 into amp! And you get a very nice thight and responsive tone! Dont put the gain on your channel to high. And play with your TS9 until you find a nice tone. Start out with the volume at max on it and no drive. Have fun! :)

TekNacho I know what you mean. Companies seem to be really focusing on the two ends of the spectrum - smooth overdrives and high-gain distortion. I really like my DOD 250 Overdrive (which is supposedly the same as an MXR Distortion+) but it's a little weak with single coil pickups. Wish I could find something with just a little more gain and maybe a tone nob. Maybe it's time to start modding it.

@DarkFottloch Yes maybe you right it's just like the clasic ESP like the one kirck hammet uses in the ONE video or the one Takayoshi Omura uses today. Certaly look like the old Ibanez and there is a flash in this vid where you can see the headstock , but what give me the doubt is the nitrocellulose finish in the fretboard. The old Ibanez have that finish in freatboard??? Best regards.

@ViktorVR One has to keep in mind the market for this pedal extends far beyond Ibanez guitar users. SRV enthusiasts who can be convinced that this pedal does the original justice will buy this too. Hence Strat.

I'm not sure if you're looking for that sound, but I've heard several guitar players having success with a TS9-pedal willing to achieve a Paramore kind of sound. If that's the kind of guitar sound you're looking for, I'd give it a go.

There's absolutely no way that a tube screamer can get you that "deep and heavy" death metal sound by itself. People do use it in death metal, but mostly just for a subtle boost before it hits the amp, which makes up most of the tone you're looking for. And of course, not just any amp can do this.

i know of noone using the pedal as an actual od pedal... only as a booster in front of a hot driven valve head to clear up the bottom end and give it that ultra high gain thingy...

@GuillermoSmyser Yes you are right but what can be mor convince that you use an Ibanez guitar like an RG or so whit = twang and make it sound with that pedal like a SRV strat , if you can do that whit that kind of guitar the whit a telecaster which is the King of the twang guitars well I yhink you know what i mean.

I'm starting to give up. I can't find anyone play anything besides blues with this pedal. I like the blues, but I play lead in an alternative rock band and half stack is not giving me what I want. And I don't wanna buy something that might not work for me. Buying a metal distortion pedal isn't what I'm looking for either, that's too much.

Defiantly most bands of the melodic metalcore and death metal genres use this pedal! Best overdrive in the business imo

Just because you can play 15 notes a second from a scale that doesn't even exist doesn't mean you're good. Generic blues licks, yea, but I see no beginner player here.

So damn boring doing the same thing over and over, this guy really needs to learn some new licks rather than just be so damn repetitive. Look at the Blackstar commercials at least they hired talented people like Andy James to demonstrate the quality of their products no begginer players like the one on the video.

could have used a better guitarist and guitar. instead of just having a hack of a guitarist playing the same beginner blues licks over and over.
