Damn! Looked like they were easily doing 60 or 70kph+ on the main stretch... They play hard in South America! And karting doesn't negatively impact the environment either. 👏 I liked the show of comradeship at the start. I can see why you'd want to wish your fellow drivers luck.. pretty dangerous!

Quite brilliant that the community gets together to have this great sport without the nonsense of big money, advertising, sponsors, etc, not to mention the air- and noise-pollution that goes with internal combustion engines. Free for the spectators, and affordable for just about anyone to compete. I do hope they have the sense to keep it like that. I find myself thinking of good sites in the UK where we could do this... Mind you, here it would all go wrong so quickly, with the 'Health and Safety' idiots now in charge. But, the rocking that these crews go in for! Perhaps basic physics is not taught in Ecuador... Even with their own belief in the efficacy of rocking to-and-fro, there were several occasions where the driver and co-driver rocked in opposite phase! Hard not to smile. And then there's their neglect of minimizing air resistance: I know it's proportional to the square of the velocity, and they don't get up to very high speeds; but it could make the difference between first and second place. I don't think there were any hard fast corners here where the co-pilot could make a big difference with the position of their combined centre-of-gravity, in the way motorcycle sidecar racers do so spectacularly, but they do at least have a go at that elsewhere [see ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6Q9hfJng3G8.html for an example - also in Ecuador]. However, I don't mean to carp. To pursue efficiency too far, for instance reducing rolling resistance with use of expensive bearings and tyres, making expensive fairings, using computer-designed this and that, would be starting on the road to the big-money - and therefore more and more exclusive - game that bedevils many richer, more developed countries. I'd love to see it stay at this close-to-basic level. This is what we used to do [in England] as kids, constructing the carts with old pram wheels and whatever wood we could scrounge, making the hole for the front axle steering pivot with several attempts with a red-hot poker [we had no money for drills], nicking some boy's sister's skipping-rope to steer by [along with the feet] - then off to charge down the steepest hills we could find. No brakes - well, your feet were the brakes, to the chagrin of mothers who had to replace too-quickly-worn-out shoes. What happy times, before the internet came to ruin childhood for so many. So for this reason also I applaud these guys, and their town officials. Long - and as cheaply - and with such excitement - may they race!
