2:19 our response: Ibn Taymiyyah, in the provided text, is emphasizing the importance of accepting and affirming the descriptions of Allah as they are presented in the Quran and Sunnah, without attempting to reinterpret them metaphorically or allegorically. When he says, "What is intended by the eye is seeing, but not an eye in reality?", he is cautioning against the practice of interpreting Allah’s attributes in a way that strips them of their apparent meaning. He argues that if Allah describes Himself as having an eye, then believers should accept that description as it is, rather than reinterpreting it to mean something else, like merely seeing without an actual eye. Ibn Taymiyyah's point is that denying the apparent meaning of Allah’s descriptions, such as His eye or hands, and reinterpreting them symbolically, goes against how Allah has chosen to describe Himself. This is a key aspect of the Athari (or Hanbali) creed, which stresses the importance of adhering to the literal texts of the Quran and Sunnah without delving into speculative theology (kalam) or metaphorical interpretations that could alter the intended meaning. In the Athari (or Hanbali) creed, as represented by Ibn Taymiyyah, the statement emphasizes the importance of accepting the literal descriptions of Allah's attributes as presented in the Quran and Sunnah. When Ibn Taymiyyah says, "If we say that Allah does not possess a hand in reality; and that what is intended by the hand is His favor upon His slaves, then have we described Him with what He describes Himself? No!", he is rejecting the metaphorical interpretation of Allah's attributes. According to Athari aqeedah: 1. **Literal Affirmation**: Attributes of Allah, such as His hands, eyes, and face, should be affirmed literally as they are mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah without delving into how these attributes are in reality (i.e., without likening them to human attributes or trying to imagine their nature). 2. **Avoiding Metaphorical Interpretation**: The text is warning against reinterpreting Allah's attributes metaphorically. For instance, saying that "hand" merely means "favor" or "power" is seen as not adhering to the way Allah has described Himself. Such reinterpretations are viewed as distortions of the original texts. 3. **Submission to Divine Description**: Believers are encouraged to submit to the descriptions of Allah as He has revealed them, without trying to rationalize or alter their meanings. This approach is based on the belief that human comprehension is limited and that Allah’s attributes are beyond human analogy. In summary, Ibn Taymiyyah is stressing that describing Allah in a way that differs from His own descriptions in the Quran and Sunnah is incorrect. The Athari creed holds that Allah’s attributes should be affirmed exactly as they are described, without metaphorical interpretation or negating their reality.

I just have one correction to make. During the video, you conflate "affirming the meaning" (or ithbat al-ma'na) with the concept of tafwid al-ma'na (or relegating the meaning). However, at one point in the video, you correctly mention the name of the group that holds to tafwid al-ma'na among the Atharis, which is the "Hanbali Atharis". They are mufawwidah, i.e., proponents of tafwid al-ma'na. So, was it just misspeak? Anyway, excellent video. The Orthodox need to focus more of their time and effort on Islam.

hi, I appreciate your work. I first saw you on the Orthodox meme squad channel. Anyway, have you read much about the hieromartyr Fr (St) Dainiel Sysoev? He did much evangelism with muslims (and which is the reason for his martyrdom). May God bless you!
I’m a catholic and love that you’re defending the christian faith publicly! You don’t have to take my advice but I would say raising the camera upward so it doesn’t look like you’re looking down at the camera and backing it up will drastically improve your content. Keep up the good work ! Subscribed!
If you don’t mind me asking, where and how did you become knowledgeable in the quran and the bible ? You speak other languages very well and seem to be very intelligent. Would love to know more about your journey to Christ! God bless.
When I first returned to Christ, I asked God to give me some sort of sign about which NT bible I should study to best understand his word as he intended it. I've never had, nor claimed to have had any visions or profound spiritual experiences, but when I prayed for that sign, almost as I asked for it, it was answered with a single word "Koine". Now as a southern Baptist, I had no idea what that meant because I'd never so much as heard the term, but upon looking it up and learning that the NT was probably transcribed in Greek Koine before even Aramaic, I hit my knees and almost had a panic attack. I THOUGHT I was a true believer before, but in that moment God became utterly undeniable, and it was truly terrifying. Joined the Orthodox church the very next day. Amen.
I saw your interview of your conversion with Bob of Speaker's Corner. I just want to encourage you to allow the love of God continue to penetrate your soul. It protects you from all attacks. If you are firm in your knowledge of the Love of God, then you will not be enticed away, you will not need to react in fear, you will not need to react in anger. Read and pray daily. Meditate on the love of God. It really is the armor of God.
Hey man, I have a question for you, but firstly I best introduce myself. I’m a devout follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I do not follow any denomination (yet, as I am still figuring things out). I was observing you’re video with Sneako, and I couldn’t help but notice that you, along with a friend were talking about these terms, and an example of one was the classic “personal incredulity fallacy”, and I was wondering, where did you learn all of these? I would love to learn these as I want to build my Christian defence against anything I come across, debates etc, by knowing these and having to apply them to certain situations. I hope you are well, and may the Lord Jesus Christ lead us both into salvation!

Q: How many gods are in heaven? A: Only one. Q: Are they sitting on the same chair? A: These words are understood only by the one who has the holy spirit. *so.. God sacrificed God to God in order to save God's creation from God. God prayed to God for help but God didn't help God, and God killed God with help from humans. And that God is a father of himself and the mother of himself and the son of mother he created at the same time. He is also eternal but his birthday is...? 🤡

Hi! Ive recently been really interested in orthodoxy/ christianity in general and I was wondering if you could make a video about the books you have read or what you have used to learn about theology and things like that?
Perhaps when it says that He is one, rather than taking it to mean that He's unique, it should instead be understood to mean that He encompasses everything within His being. Something like, 'the one is all, and all is one'.

If you imagine allah has an ear, he does not. If you imagine allah has a body, he does not."😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Ahad in Arabic translates as "One of" Wahid means "One" Sura 2:102 Sura 3:153 Sura 9:4 Sura. 9:27 And many many more verses all use the word Ahad, and its always One of, anyone, anyman, any one of you.. and so on and so on. Relliance of the traveller is a good read and insight on Sharia law
It's a deep philosophical and theological question. How God has cataphatic, positively affirmed attributes of Oneness (Or Triune in Christianity), of absolute Mercy, of absolute Justice, and so on. But at the same time we are also told by scriptures through apophatic negative expressions that God and His attributes are beyond any scope of human logic and understanding. Does this necessarily make the cataphatic affirmations "blah, blah, blah" and gibberish? It's important to emphasize that this is not unique to Islam and the concepts within Islam you have put forth (e.g., Allah having a face and hands, or Allah being One, or Allah being the most Merciful). These seemingly opposing positions have been held by theologians within Christianity and other faiths as well as you may know. Either way, for most muslims (and I assume laymen of various faiths), such concepts are not a focus of attention.

Plato's Theory of Forms asserts that the physical realm is only a shadow, or image, of the true reality of the Realm of Forms. So what are these Forms, according to Plato? The Forms are abstract, perfect, unchanging concepts or ideals that transcend time and space; they exist in the Realm of Forms. Not necessarily the most accurate way to describe God's attribute but it should give you some idea on how to understand the concept of there is none like unto him
