I have ibs and does anyone else get extremely irritable when they have to go poop and have the stomach pains? Great video BTW I am so glad that I'm not alone with this. Sometimes it feels like I am.
Hi Stella, yes that's me too. My stomach pains really do affect my mood. When I am out and about around other people it can make things difficult as you just kinda pretend that you feel fine... when inside I'm in so much pain!!
Yes.. This is me!? I feel like every movement and sound coming from my gut is going to have me on the toilet. This is not the case though. I'll try to go and can't... I feel like my mind gut connection is messed up.. Giving me fake IBS or something. It's a huge mental struggle...
Yes! If I get sick while driving home, I have to turn the radio off and don’t like for anyone to even talk to me. My poor husband is a trooper for dealing with me lol
Yes, mine is more constipation than anything so I take prescription meds that make me go and in this process I have every symptom imaginable from bloating to becoming so dehydrated that I nearly pass out. IBS is so underated and needs more recognition. Also doesn't help that I have other illnesses with it
I'm 13 years old and I've had IBS for 5 years now and it's so hard to find foods that suit my diet because I'm gluten free, dairy free, and I'm on a fodmap diet. And your hacks really helped me! It's good to know that I'm not alone.
It's not as bad as it seems I promise. I'm 17 and I was born with IBS, food allergies/intolerance and I've had to live a very strict diet because I'm allergic to absolutely ever while foods and if I consume them I have every symptom imaginable
Omg same I’m 13 and I’ve had IBS for 4 yrs now at first I thought I was alone but I realized that there are so many cases of IBS and people should start talking about it more often.
@@ellarydon9784 I have had it for awhile but didnt know what it was. I'm basically better now and I understand what your going through. It was difficult for me to go to school last year because I would get diahreha on the bus. I also remember when I was 9 and I was on the school carpet I would feel horrible stomach pains and just wait for them to go away. That's when it all started. 5th grade, everything seemed to get worse and worse. 6th, The beginning of the year was horrible, I always has diahreha on the bus an at school. 7th grade 13 years old (right now)I'm doing awesome and havent had diahreha often. it's because I got rid of gluten and dairy and I started taking medication. Good luck.
I get extreme IBS in social situations or when I'm stressed. When I was in school, my stomach would growl so loudly and I had to go to the bathroom all the time. I lost about 25-30lbs in 2 1/2 months because I wasn't eating in the mornings, trying to avoid my stomach upsets. I would eat mints just to stay awake and keep my blood sugar from dropping. I would even faint. I dropped out 2 years ago and I finally got my first job (starting monday) and I'm worried about the same issue. Thank you for the video. I know it's really embarrassing to talk about. I hope some of these hacks help me and others facing IBS.
Omg same I’m 17 and I had to leave school cuz it was so badand now I work in the fields with my parents and I struggle so bad having to go to the bathroom all the time I’m scared to get another job because of it.
I've been diagnosed with IBS recently after a year of trying to find out what was wrong. I'm on several meds, I am also GF and DF now and there's so many things I can't eat, it can make you feel like a pain so it's nice to know you're not alone and you're 'normal' :) Thank you xx
@@patricka1475 I find it happens to me when i lay in bed for a midday nap after going out the day before (even tho i dont consume alcohol very often) but sleeping for a for 15+ minutes will give me a flare up immediately, so strange. Wondering if it has to do with the system that gets confused or anything
I never had a diet.. to be honest, I coordinated it with my nerves. I always found flareups when i was nervous, excited, or anxious. Not really from food. But I am gonna give it a try anyways. And coffee is an enemy to me, which is so saddening. Does anyone else get flareups from nerves like mine?
Yes, it's basically the same for me! I get flare-ups whenever I have long drives ahead, important events, dates and all that kind of stuff. Hate it because I can't control my nerves or brain as much as I can control what I eat.. :(
Yes! I had to take a flight yesterday to get home and it ruined my stomach, I could only eat a chicken sandwich all day because my stomach was so bloated and messed up from the anxiety of traveling
Ive had IBS since i was 7 and now im 18 years old. Not all the "hacks" in the video is true as everyone that suffers with ibs have diffrent flare triggers and some can be mental triggers like stress and anxiety etc. Sometimes you can just flare up without being triggered. I personally dont follow fodmap diet because off how many trigger foods i have if i was on a fodmap diet i couldnt eat anythink. One piece off advice i have is listen to your body and keep a food diary with drinks and everytime you flare go back to what you ate and drank to rule out foods and drinks also caffine and carbonated drinks can trigger IBS aswell and to eveyone out there that suffers with ibs remeber your not alone and that there will be times where you have near accidents and accidents them selves but remain strong as somepeople dont know what pain we go through everyday and how hard it is on us physically and mentally xx
Does anyone eat the same food more than once, sometimes with flareups and sometimes without? That's the part that confuses me the most... Renders elimination diets useless.
I tracked my food (and still do) and NONE of the foods are the same. It is like a wildcard. I track on cara care and they tell you the food you ate on your best and worse days and most my food is on both days. Its super annoying.
My stomach would swell no matter what I ate I looked fat Chinese food would hurt me not just make me swell like I would get pain I’m taking ibgard now and I can see my feet
This is one of the most frustrating parts of tracking food triggers...there can be a lot of reasons for this. Sometimes your gut is in a worse place that day, sometimes you've reached your threshhold on a food you are sensitive to in larger quantities, sometimes your stress is the key factor...and ultimately, I've found that people's trigger food list often doesn't conform to any of the diet lists, so you have to do the hard work of getting clear on the specifics.
I also suffer from Ibs and its affecting my life a LOT. I literally can't go anywhere if there is no bathroom. Going on dates, to parties, traveling or even to my local grocery store is almost impossible now. I'm an extrovert myself. I've always enjoyed going out and having fun, but nowadays I can't even leave my house anymore. And is also really hard for me to find a job because most jobs require one to be far away from a bathroom or only having specific bathroom break times.
My IPS Hacks: Get a RADAR key for the 'disabled toilet'. This allows you to toilets in the UK that you would not normally use. It is great if there are queues for the toilet. Take a spare spare of waterproof trousers for emergencies or at least a waterproof jacket you can cover yourself if you have an attack. Use adult nappies, there is no shame. They can be bought online. Pop up tents can be useful in the summer, but only when you know how to put them back.
I go for walks every day not every time I eat but I go on walks and get some exercise in I need to do Christian fitness but I can do two today yesterdays was low impact I mean low it only had like a few exercises so I could do two and go for a walk
I have IBS and am avoiding fodmaps until I can see a specialist in gluten and fodmaps dietician to do the fodmap challenge. I have discovered that asafoetida, ( hing) is a replacement for garlic and onion, it is from the spice section of your store and is not always gluten free so you need to read the ingredients before buying, also you use it very sparingly. I believe it is used a lot in Indian food recipes, I advise google it before buying and using it. Thank you Becky for your openness and willingness to discuss your IBS symptoms.
I'm 17 now and I've had ibs, food allergies/intolerance since I was born, I couldn't have any formulas because I was allergic to everything in them and to this day I'm allergic to everything that I like and won't eat things that I don't like even if I'm not allergic to them. My allergies that effect me most are whole foods like: Corn Wheat Soy Dairy/lactose Tomato's Potato's Eggs Onions Rice Etc... I tried going vegan to lighten the blow but everything consists of soy and rice, I basically live on peas and peanut butter which I like but it gets boring especially since I don't like drinking water. Upon consuming these whole foods I have to take prescription medicine to get them all out of my system because my number 1 IBS issue that I have when consuming things I'm allergic to is constipation which means that if I don't get the toxins out they will stay in my body until I go to the doctor but when I do take my medicine I still experience all of the symptoms from bloating and gas to becoming so dehydrated and lethargic/fatigued that I nearly faint. IBS is so underated and I wish it was more openly known in the chronic illness community. ANOTHER THING THAT SUCKS IS HAVING THE BLOATING THAT MAKES ME LOOK LIKE A PREGNANT 17 YEAR OLD GIRL!!!
Thank you, I'm going to try these out and see how it goes! I have extremely bad IBS, like its debilitating, exhausting, depressing and just fucking awful. I've dealt with it my whole life, some years are worse than other. I've had flair ups having lasted for months and it's awful. On top of that I'm obese and have been stuck in quarantine the last year. Life feels fucking hopeless right now to be honest. I'm really glad I found your channel today. I think itll help with my IBS and depression. Thank you darling
I'm 16 and I've had IBS for few months now. I was in hospital because of it and I'm on fodmap diet. It's really hard for me but I have to learn how to live with this. Thanks for this video❤️ (sorry if my English isn't good)
Hiya (your English is very good by the way!) So sorry to hear that you've been in hospital. I hope the low FODMAP diet is helping you and your IBS is feeling a little better. We all have good days and bad days, I hope this is a good day for you :) x
@@BeckyExcell I just take ibgard I’m not doing any kind of diet I haven’t been diagnosed with anything I would just swell up I just thought I was fat but most was bloat I’m obese don’t get me wrong but I can see my feet now so I don’t feel as fat now
The more you mention it, the more you will realize how many people around you suffer or have family members who suffer. It will start conversations and lead you to solutions. I found out about Alflorex and The Monash University FODMAP because I spoke about IBS. Other sufferers are so pleased to share their success.
I hate that my IBS literally does not have a trigger food. I can eat pizza one day and be totally fine no issues. Then I'll have pizza another day and it's world war 3. Same with dairy and meat. I've gone without both and saw no change. So basically I just have to live life as is and if I get a flare up eh whatever 🤷♀️
I love pizza it doesn’t mean I’m going to eat pizza every day that would get old quick. It seems like there was a point in my life I ate doughnuts every day but I eat healthier now I eat doughnuts on occasion I had to stop with the doughnuts I think it was making me fatter or it seemed like every day
Thank you for these videos:) the garlic infused olive oil is such a clever idea. I'm glad you talk about the emotional side IBS. It really effects lots of aspects of life. Keep doing these vids, they're great x
I have the Monash app and I love it, but I wish it had a scanning function. Hopefully someday someone will make one since I'm kind of sick of closely reading ingredients labels.
Purav Patel I completely agree, I use a combination of these two exact apps. Living in France and seeing the mixed and recently buggy reviews for the app Becky recommended last year (so this may be recent), I feel like I have a good system in place. There's still a lot of room for improvement I think in these two though. Particularly they should enhance their export functions and could I think quite easily help IBS folks like us recognise where we are most vulnerable (Fodmap Helper goes halfway but piechart fails and still no export options). Thanks Becky if you're reading this, I just subscribed!
Luthien FDA does not recognize gluten free. My doctor pretends he’s ignorant about it. Yet I’ve met many ppl like me. Gluten free foods are expensive. Flour, bread and snacks are outrageous. 😞
You're really careful about what you eat ( I am not, I eat anyway and suffer), so is your ibs under control? Does it work like 100 per cent or close to it?
I had to limit my foods anyways because of food allergies (wheat bran barley, nuts etc) and its made a huge difference for me. I was super depressed and tired all the time but now I can make it through a day without much struggle
I haven’t been diagnosed but I swell up I been talking ibgard for a few days it really works I can see my feet I like that I use of couldn’t because my stomach stuck out too much my waist is down to 39 inches and my lower stomach is 41 inches that’s 4 inches lost on both of them so I feel good now
I have found that how much I chew my food makes a great deal of difference in how it affects my tummy. And also, eating cold foods, while not too bad if I chew it a lot, can affect me poorly.
I’m almost 30 and I’ve lived my whole life untreated for ibs. I’m bloated and uncomfortable everyday some days it’s so severe it’s painful but I’m pretty much always bloated.
I was too and I started taking ibgard try that I can see my feet now my stomach stuck out so much I couldn’t see my feet I lost 4 inches on my waist so my waist is 39 inches around now and my lower stomach is 41 inches my waist use to be 43 inches a few days ago and lower stomach 45 inches I feel better without it sticking out so much. I feel skinny not like annoriex skinny but I feel better and I’m still 39 pounds overweight which I don’t get but I feel better taking ibgard I haven’t been able to see my feet in a long time because my stomach stuck out so much I couldn’t
If you eat the foods that are Not agreeable? Your intestines can get damaged over time. So, it’s important to be vigilant. It’s your well being. I had tests done on my stomach and bowel, everything is good. Warm water, no ice. Wait 15 min after you eat, relax. Let your body absorb. I started having to run to the BR if I eat salad, fresh fruit, then it’s ok. Oily food is bad too. No grease. Thanks.
Winner of a video, been searching for "best medicine for ibs" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Mackorny Defeat IBS Blueprint - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my buddy got cool results with it
I'm so excited! I jst found ur channel ...l too suffer from IBS & it's bn completely miserable..The constipation is pure torture😖😫 I Jst downloaded the app & l believe it's going to be a game changer..Ty so much for creating this channel~ New subbie Franny Gb!
Hi Franny, so glad my channel is helping. Tell me about it, I am often in a lot of pain because if it. I hope the app helps and I hope you start to feel better! x
What helped me for IBSD (Diarrhea Type), was either taking 1 immodium a day for 8 months, followed by 2 immodium pills for the next 8 mths and after that you have to switch to another Anti-Diarrheal (e.g. Dhamotil, loperamide) as your body gets used to it and it wont work.
Since covid my ibs has made life unbearable. Lost over a stone this month and been hospitalised twice over past 5 months because of inflmattion of the stomach so bad i couldnt stand up or bend over. Im sure that our gut flora and bacteria does play a part. I found drinking peppermint tea slighty helps with the cramps
The Bloodbender it was horrible i cried a lot but still went on stage took sum imodium i always get them at dance competitions i don’t think there’s ever been a comp that i haven’t been in and out of the bathroom
Bella Eng I hear you saying it consistently happens during competition. That is no accident (🤣 - No pun!). I’ve heard (and experienced it myself first hand) that stress can make it worse. I figured if I could talk myself into spiraling into negative thinking, then I could also talk myself out of it. It’s helped me not make things worse. Marissa Peer has videos on You Tube about changing our self-talk which are very helpful. Congratulations on being brave and going out on stage!! 👏 👏 👏
To be honest, I am relieved knowing that I'm alone with this :) I've been dealing with IBS for over a year now and it is not fun :( It definitely affects with what I do throughout the day and there are days where I just don't want to do anything :/
Hi Confluence Nutrition, Yes, it's still a reoccurring pain that keeps happening to me. I would describe it as a 'discomfort' kind of pain and I would feel it more in the morning and near night time. I've been to many doctors regarding my pain and they say that I'm normal and there is nothing wrong. I've also tried like probiotics, but it doesn't seem to help me.
@@rayminster Sorry to hear it's still bugging you... there's often more required than one individual thing, like probiotics. Have you worked on some diet changes?
Hey @@ConfluenceNutrition, I had followed the low FODMAP diet for a couple months and I did notice that if I eat garlic, onions and some other food that my stomach would hurt a little. But even though I eat foods with low FODMAP, I still feel some discomfort. I've tried Gravol Ginger, but it doesn't help too much. Also, I've tried Immodium and it does help me a little. Even though I don't have diarrhea, it does calm my stomach the next day.
I really recommend the Fast Tract Diet for IBS, which is available as an app. My IBS used to be too severe for a full time job, but now I can mostly cope as long as I stick to foods I can tolerate :)
Possible additional "hack" is going to bed early. Im getting increasigly the impression that going to bed early and getting up early may help me. Still working on that but in any case, I do think that sleep plays a role.
Thanks Becky 😀 I have given up coffee 2 weeks ago and I’m feeling better. I still have 2 cups of tea and a hot chocolate with almond milk every day. I will need to give these up too I think! I take coleze if I have a flare up and this helps. I also need to limit my red meat intake and yes fat is a big trigger for my IBS. low fat intake makes a big difference, low fat mayonnaise, small amounts of olive oil, no eggs. I have also limited my lactose free dairy foods because it just doesn’t agree with me. I eat mainly potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, lettuce, zucchini, capsicum, tomatoes, green part of spring onion finely chopped, lettuce, oyster mushrooms. Free range chicken, tuna in spring water, lean pork mince. I also have stopped fizzy drinks and much better 👍🏻
Hi it’s me again 😀 I also find that rice and oats are good for soothing my tummy. I have sourdough or spelt bread with no preservatives. Hope this helps
Hi, I 'm very slowly introducing spelt bread back into my diet. But I get more bowel crampings. The glutenfree bread I had for over a year was cancelled by the supermarket. So it left me no choice.
Oh Yes! I drink bottled water that is not "spring water." I can use some filtered water at home, but if I wait too long on changing the filter and getting any amount of tap water, which is chlorine here in the U.S., my stomach hurts so much. Water and everything is so expensive here now. I am basically going broke on water. I may need to buy a lesser water than what I buy.
IBS/D has completely taken over my entire life. Its so frustrating. I’ve been contemplating a completely liquid cleanse for a week or so to just reset my body and then go gluten and dairy free
I struggle with it too, don't feel u are alone, people from all walks of life struggle with it, I use to be a ganster(not joking either), drug dealer, in and out of jail, I'm now a devout Christian and I struggle with it to this day
Sometimes garlic salt or powder might be less strong same with onion and even adding a little sweet relish in a garlic sauce can cut out some of the acidity Hope this helps
Peppermint tea really helps with cramps but if my intestines are too crampy I will take mebeverine (an anti spasmodic)However for upper tummy bloating which happens in my IBS , buscopan helps a lot
thank you. would love one on IBS and coping as an athlete... really struggling at the moment how none of my clothes fit I can't wear tight tops and when training I loose energy faster... even though I eat really good before and after. is this due to the IBS? also morning nausea when training. would love to hear if any successful athletes especially crossfitters with IBS and if its possible to succeed in sport.
This was very useful :) now being pregnant I'm even more worried about what i eat..i had until now 3 days i was in soooo much pain that i vomited. I realized that was someting so silly that i eaten and caused that.
I just found out that i have IBS and my doctor said that i have to try the Foodmapdiet and it’s really hard but your videos are so helpful! Thank you so much. I enjoy all of your Foodmap videos
Terrific video. Practical and clear. Thank you so much. A question about the food diary: I have done that in the past, but then I found that the amount of information in it was overwhelming and I couldn’t really sift through it and find patterns. Any tips for how to actually use the food diary after you keep it? Again, thank you for a very Helpful video.
Can I say onething to all suffer from ibs....as she says first two avoid d things tat u should not eat...later eat little bit Wat u like....later only one mindset think tat u r completely fine and iam alright I can watever I want....sure tat mindset will give great change!!!
For some reason I can eat sweet onion, cooked is better... scallions seem to up set my gut.. garlic salt and onion salt work for me, yes, on the food diary... a big yes!!! eating out: pressure cooked chicken, many big chain restaurants pressure cook their chicken and coat it, then ship to local restaurant where it is fried. Not all do this so I have to be careful. Kentucky fried does this and so does Golden Coral buffet. I'm sure there are others... pressure cooking breaks down the fiber! Only fresh green I can eat is chopped raw spinach, so I make small spin salads with canned mushrooms, sweet onion, canned black olives. some times add canned carrots too! Olive oil mayo only... soy oil gets me...
Ive just been told I have ulcerative colitis not IBS. I've been put on the FODMAP diet, I've downloaded the app. Doctor has told me no dairy products, no coffee, no carbonated drinks, nothing spicy or fried. I'm not to eat onions or garlic. Bread, I'm to have gluten free. I'm going to try the garlic infused oil and the chives. If you have anymore IBS tips please let me know, I've only been diagnosed with IBS for 6 months and diagnosed with ulcerative colitis on Monday of this week. I'm finding your videos extremely helpful, lots of good tips and advice. Stay strong in this fight with ibd. Much love to you xxx
Wish I could eat chives. Part of my IBS/Digestive issues is I also get chronic heartburn/chest burn/regurgitation. Chives are from the allium family which is a big no-no for GERD.
Aww sorry to hear that. There are different types of garlic infused oil, I'm not sure if you have tried different ones? Some seem to be more cloudy (I stir clear of those) but the one I buy from tesco is perfectly clear and is fine with me :) x
HELP!! I’m 14 and I’ve been having stomach pains for about 3 weeks. I get diarrhea and then I get constipated. I have nausea and a lot of gas. Do I have IBS? PLEASE REPLY!!
I fainted a while ago when I was pooping, it hurt so bad that my body shut down ): after that incident my anxiety got much worse and that increased my IBS
Great tips...I have to try that infused garlic oil, I have heard of it but I also read somewhere that it is low fodmap only when you add it cold, as in salad etc etc....supposedly when you heat it up it changes properties and makes it high fodmap...? Anyways the only thing that I can add is, I have been taking this powder magnesium every night before sleep, it is called CALM and one side effect it might have (not on everyone though but keep that in mind) is diarhea....I have an IBS C so that is not as issue for me but I think it makes me more regular on some mornings...and it also helps me relax, fall asleep and if I take it in the morning, I am much calmer...which is good thing for IBS:)
Hiya, I've never heard that actually, I'll have to check but I'm pretty sure it doesn't change anything. I always make sure my garlic infused olive oil is the kind that doesn't have any little pieces of garlic in it, it has to be completely clear. I'm pretty sure you can cook fine with it :) I've heard good things about magnesium, I might look into having it a little bit more, thanks for the tip! x
I recently got diagnosed with IBS and acid reflux, and it’s making me feel like things will never go back to normal. I also have anxiety issues so I get anxious and then I get a stomach ache, then I get anxious over the stomach ache and it just gets worse. Anybody have any advice? Does it get easier?
I’ve had IBS for years and a tip I have is when you’re in that stomach pain mode, remind yourself that this has happened and passed before! It feels hopeless as you’re in that pain, but remind yourself you’ll be fine. Don’t focus on the pain, focus on the relief you’ll feel eventually. Also of course go to the toilet every time the pain hits.
It is hard. Remind yourself it has passed before and that if you succeed in calming yourself down, chances are your symptoms will diminish at least a bit too. It’s the reverse vicious cycle. I hope you feel somewhat better in the meantime. Good luck!
i had no idea that you had your own channel. I suffer from ibs.. too ive just found out ive got it:( i know there was something wrong for years but ive just got on with it, i used to the pain and other things that happen after i eat now, but ive been told if i carry on it can damage my body in the long run
Aww so sorry to hear that, it isn't the nicest thing to have, you just need to learn how to control your own IBS. Everyone has it slightly differently. Definitely don't just deal with the pain, peppermint tea is helping me this afternoon! xx
Whenever i have my IBS, i scream and my mum and dad shout at me for screaming and its just a hell hole. After having my attack i suddenly go all empty and skinny again and i havent been able to put on any weight since my IBS started. Idk if thats just me but it really sucks.
Idk if I have Ibs (and I can't speak to doctor/ parent about it) I get diarrhoea when scared and I seem to poop a lot, and recently (past week) I've had abit of on and off diarrhoea constipation and stomach ache and I'm so scared I have it :/
I haven't heard anyone else say that onions are a trigger. Raw onions in tiny bits only. Cooked onions rarely give problems. Also the type of onion matters for me. The worst is the white ones. I don't know what it is about onions that is the issue. Strawberries are so good but even 1 will make me hurt so badly I completely abstain.
For food diary, there are apps that make that so much easier. mySymptoms Food Diary and Symple Symptom are really good food and symptoms tracking apps. Plus you can record so much more than food, like medications, supplements, exercise, stress, sleep, and so much more. You control the detail.
Hi first time listener 👋 What is the exact name of the Fodmap app ur referring to? There are several, some with out cost .. please let me know if you have info.. thanks
Ibgard helps really helped me I lost 4 inches around my waist and 4 inches off my lower stomach so now with my stomach not so bloated and sticking out so much I can se see my feet my waist is down to 39 inches and my lower stomach is 41 inches
What do you do if you have reflux esophagitis, chronic gastritis and IBS? Wondered if the app you are using is basically for where you are using vs for in the US? Would it still be worth the $9?
I know people recommend and plug different probiotic pills, but I have had a lot of luck and was recommended by my gastrologist to take the VSL#3. It's a bit expensive, but it's been the best. The corresponding would be Allign, but that is not as powerful, so you have to take more. But, both of these are specific bacteria. I've had good luck. I'm not plugging this probiotic. I'm just saying what has been helping. It's not a cure. It just helps. Also, it has to be refrigerated and taken on an empty stomach. So 2 hours before you take it and at least 30 min after is when you can eat.
I have to ask have you ever suffered with anxiety since suffering with ibs as since it hit me ive lost my job and now suffer with going out especially when going to the shops as i feel awful daily
I could imagine it getting only worse by stressing about everything... No food is gna cure this anyway, stressless life will, if something can ever even cure it.
I have abdominal pain every day with painful bloating and dissension and painful cramps starting at my lower ribs and over my abdomen and going poop all the time. No meds help. Starting to feel like I can’t go on anymore.
