Another good video. You activate a little earlier than I usually get up, but we've had a couple QSO's. Between you and K4SWL, I'm having no trouble finding more POTA stuff to buy, lol. Keep up the good work. John WA2OUZ

Man that’s rough! I saw the numbers, but the bands weren’t bad here this morning. No idea how they are now, but seems like the north got the worst of it. TU & enjoy the northern lights! I’ve never seen them in real life. 73!

I was about to message you asking about this antenna. I’ve been thinking getting it to use on the top of my building. Because of the tripod and only 4 radials. How does it perform on 80 with the coil? And the banana plugs used in this one, do they use some Chinese only specs or it’s just like the ones we find around here? 73!
@w4arb
@w4arb 4 месяца назад
It’s a great antenna. I’ve only really used the 80m coil one time, but I feel like it performed respectably given its size. It tuned to 1.2:1 with no tuner on 80m. I’m sure the bandwidth was quite narrow though. The banana plugs are 3mm. They’re a little smaller than the standard ones, but they’re pretty easy to find. 73!

As heavy as that 705 is you could take a 7300. Pretty chunky!
@w4arb

Hah! A 705 including the battery is small and light enough to hold in one hand. A 7300 with a 20 Ah battery to run it, I’d have to start lifting weights 😅

how does MC-750 compare to a Buddistick Pro?
@w4arb
@w4arb 4 месяца назад
There are a lot of factors involved in an objective answer. It would partially depend on band. On 20 meters and higher, the MC-750 is a full size 1/4 wave vertical. On 40/80, it has loading coils to add inductance. The Buddistick is shorter (therefore has more inductance in the coil), which lowers the efficiency. However, the Buddistick is supposed to be deployed on a tripod (elevated) with an elevated tuned counterpoise. Elevated counterpoises are more efficient technically than ground radials (unless you use A LOT of ground radials). All in all, both perform subjectively well enough for activities like Parks on the Air. But the MC-750 is much easier to set up and tune than a Buddistick (I've owned both). I personally found the Buddistick coil and tap clips to be terribly fiddly. Hope that helps!

Thank you@@w4arb! I do own Buddistick Pro. Confirmed 127 countries CW with it since March 2023. It's a great antenna but I need something for 80 mtrs. Working on my 5B WAS CW.
@w4arb

It’s definitely a compromise antenna on 80M but it does work. I’ve made some nearby contacts with it on 80, but It’s about 1/4 the size of a full quarter wave. A good ole 80m dipole, or even a long random wire would do better. :)
