Interested to see more on this kayak. My first kayak three years ago was the RS117, loved it, great kayak, but I had to sell it. My next kayak will be motorized, I'm a 100% disabled vet. I don't have the endurance anymore to paddle

Both of the companies are really expanding their market and I am so glad to see it. I started with a Hobie pro Angler to a Pelican PWR 100 and have sold them and was waiting for something to be developed that us older, lesser balanced, but want the use of all the ways you can rig these kayaks/boats. For me who cares if it is loosing its pure kayak form. I want a in between both worlds for the fun, fish ability, and ease of use. I am 67 and it’s a good thing in all the features that us older guys can appreciate.

It's cool and all, but I don't think we should call it a kayak and call it a skiff instead... I have a TitanX 12.5 and admittedly that's a big kayak but to its defense it does have a manual drive at least, the Xtr130 the way it's laid out and needing to be motorized as I highly doubt it's something you'd want to paddle just seems more like a skiff to me and with the advancements we have available to upgrading our kayaks I understand where we should just include small boats and skiffs that fall under certain guidelines in tournaments as some organizations do but to the same point we should then stop calling those "kayak" tournaments as well. Definitely gonna shake the industry up a bit with this one, and I wouldn't be surprised if rules on motorization end up being adjusted because of boats like this.
@thebeardedpaddler
@thebeardedpaddler Месяц назад
It's not a lot different than the Titan X in size. I think every inch of the deck is utilized though. You can stand on the bow as well as the stern. I'm looking forward to hands on experience with it

Interesting, the comments on how these boats stray from what people want when buying a kayak. I’m coming from a Ranger 520 which cost the equivalent of a well equipped kayak to maintain and run every year. These kayaks are exactly what I’m looking for.

hope they change the seat to make them better for larger paddlers since their normal seats are too narrow and inflict pain on anyone with a wider waistline. Most importantly they need to change their "capacity" ratings to be accurate and factual before it gets someone killed.
@thebeardedpaddler
@thebeardedpaddler Месяц назад
@@MysticalDragon73 all companies should use usable weight capacity. There are a lot of companies that refuse to do so and "guess" at the weight cap. People should be talking about that more than anything. The flak that Old Town and Bonafide get for doing it correct are the reason the other companies refuse to do it. That is not my opinion but fact.
@MysticalDragon73
@MysticalDragon73 Месяц назад
@thebeardedpaddler I would hope you meant the flak they get for doing it incorrectly because both bonafide and old town are notorious for doing it incorrectly. More flak should be given for these incorrect and misleading capacity ratings that will get someone killed. Why More people aren't up in arms over it is baffling. I know that Jackson for sure, and a few others state their capacity as what you put into the boat including paddler since that weight is always a variable. This is the correct and safe way of listing capacity ratings.
@thebeardedpaddler
@thebeardedpaddler Месяц назад
@@MysticalDragon73 that's what they tell you. Bonafide and Old Town do it Correctly which tells you how much "usable" weight cap there is. Major companies refuse to do this because it hurts marketing. Usable capacity should be the standard.
@MysticalDragon73
@MysticalDragon73 Месяц назад
@@thebeardedpaddler that is NOT what old town and bondafide do. They NEVER have stated a proper useful capacity. The ONLY ones that think that are those with those two companies. From bonafides website: Note: Capacity is determined by taking kayak weight + paddler weight + gear weight. This is NOT usable capacity. Weight of the boat should NEVER be factored into any capacity listing. Usable capacity is what you put into the boat. Usually until performance decreases or with sit on top kayaks until the scuppers are full. You get a half ton pickup its usable capacity is 1/2 ton which is everything you put into the pickup. Not 1/2 ton minus the weight of the vehicle. When I got my ss127 I was needing a boat with alot of capacity. This is before bonafide started putting the disclaimer on their website as it was never there before. I got it and then was shocked at how quickly it was loaded. I was well below their stated capacity rating. A couple weeks later tg canoe and kayak did a review stating what the usable capacity actually was which matched my numbers. They said it appears bonafide is factoring in the weight of the boat into their number. They stated it was dangerous. Chad hoover also stated it was dangerous.He has been pushing for a constant and to try to keep people safe. This is why I stay on my soapbox so people see it and understand it and how dangerous it really is. You cant tell me that someone with many boats is going to remember how much each boat weighs and to take that out of the equation. Jackson kayak for sure ALWAYS uses a conservative proper usable capacity. There are a few others that do the same but I can speak from experience with the jacksons.

@@thebeardedpaddler but I’d still need a rudder and foot steering. That could be expensive. I don’t see the options on the web site yet. I’d guess they need to upsize the rudder to accommodate the greater displacement. Hope so anyway. The current rudder seems too small for the PWR.

These comments always crack me up. Is the Hobie PA 14 a boat or a kayak? Cause this is actually shorter than the PA14, and only half inch wider. If we’re going to say this is a “boat” then we should be saying the same thing about the PA14 and the Titan X 12.5. As a bigger guy, I say props to Bonafide for pushing the envelope!

These kayaks are targeted for a very specific group of anglers mostly tournament guys. At the end of the day fully rigged out with dual motors,FFS,graphs power poles etc you’re looking at 10 grand or more. Most people dont want to or definitely don’t have that kind of money to spend. After all that being said though,just like anything there will be people that will buy these and spend that kind of money to trick them out.
@thebeardedpaddler
@thebeardedpaddler Месяц назад
10 grand is the high end. you can absolutely motorize one of these for less than an Autopilot and have more capability. The fact that you can go beyond $10k is a testament to the ceiling of the custom options.
@Daiwa_Is_King
