I always thought that Manny’s parents were killed off screen, and that in the first Ice Age movie he was trying to find the other Mammoths, but then finds out that all the Mammoths were killed by hunters, and that he was the last one. Until Ice Age 2 revealed that Manny wasn’t the last Mammoth and the race were still alive, it’s just that the other Mammoths lived in the other side of the Ice wall, and Manny & Ellie were left behind.
For me Ice Age should really stop at the third movie because the ending for the third movie really have a good proper ending. But I don't know somehow, someone at Fox probably values money than good entertainment because for me the 4th and 5th Ice Age movie I just want to pretend that those movies don't ever existed. Ice Age franchise shared the same issues and problems with the Transformers movie franchise, both franchise started with a good movie in their first entry and slowly started to went downhill with second movie.
My ratings 1. The Meltdown 2. Ice Age (1) 3. Dawn of the Dinosaur 4. Continental Drift 5. Collision Course In other words, the series should have ended as a trilogy.
I actually like this movie more than the original My ranking of the Ice age films Ice age 1 not my favourite good but not one I see myself going back too Ice age 2 Good I liked it story is uhh OK...... Ice age 3 Great loved it my favourite in the series Ice age 4 Good enjoyed it Ice age 5 go Away didn't like the story didn't like the characters Ice age 5 just makes me want to like the first one more
There's a new Ice Age video game starring Scrat that was recently released called Ice Age: Scrat's Nutty Adventure, I'm planning on buying it and playing it soon. Here's My Ranking with All the Ice Age Movies: Ice Age 1 (2002): Great Ice Age 2 (2006): Okay Ice Age 3 (2009): Good Ice Age 4 (2012): Medicore Ice Age 5 (2016): Bad
My Rank Ice Age 1: Good (Great and humor)🙂 Ice Age 2: Bad (its nothing but filler)😡 Ice Age 3: Great (an Amazing Improvement)😍 Ice Age 4: Average (Stupid and random but some stuff is still good)🤨 Ice Age 5: Meh (Good Animation but lame characters)😒
One of my favorite parts of this movie that nobody seems to talk about is the two main antagonists. Cretaceous and maelstrom, the two frozen sea monsters who try to eat manny and the crew. I feel as if they're some of the most threatening villains in tha franchise since they actually killed someone. Heck, even their character design alone is one of the highlights of this movie for me. I dont understand why people dont talk about these two very much.
I think the reason why they weren’t talk about as much is because they barely appeared in the movie with just 2 minutes of screen time, if they have more screen time as Rudy from the third movie then I think they be a lot more appreciated as Rudy since he seem to be the fan favorite in terms of Ice Age villains, which is saying something because Cretaceous and Maelstrom are considered my favorite ice age villains and the most threatening along side Rudy I just really wished they had more screen time.
Glad to see you reviewed the second "Ice Age" film, which I also thought was alright. The only complaint I have about your review, and this might be a nitpick, is that you never discussed the two marine reptiles that chased after Manny and co. Sure they were just predators, but it would've been nice to mention them, like maybe for how they were used in the action scenes. As for your big Classic Review, I may not have voted for it, but I cannot wait to revisit that pineapple under the sea.
@@powerpup97 yeah don't forget I vote the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie cause actually I did but I can't wait for SpongeBob and Patrick adventure to be cause I'm so excited to see the review interesting fact did you know animat is a hugest fan of SpongeBob SquarePants well I'm am too he knows how to draw SpongeBob Patrick and Squidward house I did before but I know how to draw SpongeBob Patrick and Squidward and some character from SpongeBob as well if I wish I was in your house animat I really want to play sonic games with you cause I'm am a hugest fan of your work and sonic as well
The franchise should’ve ended at 3. On a unrelated note I think Shrek & Toy Story should’ve stopped at 3 as well. Hopefully the new Ice Age cartoon & upcoming Shrek reboot aren’t garbage.
Someone Up stairs Everything I said is debatable sense it is my opinion after all. I haven’t seen Toy Story 4 yet but from the trailers and how I feel about the 3rd film I felt like Toy Story had already ran its course and told the story it wanted to. I think the movie didn’t do as well as Disney and Pixar had hoped either. I’m not saying the movie flopped but compared to Toy Story 1-3 the 4th one didn’t make as money as it’s predecessors.
I remember seeing the sequel in theaters after how much I loved the first film and it was way better than I thought. OK, it lacked something that the previous offered, but I did like some of the humor and the backstory of Ellie and the two possums brought emotion and weight towards the end of the film. The 3rd one had a nice premise and some of the best visuals next to the fourth, but predictable execution and while Continental Drift had some entertaining moments particularly the climax, an interesting villain voiced by Peter Dinklage (Tyrion himself) and some funny moments, the story lacked some of the wit and heart of the first. Collision Course... BY JESUS DID IT SUCK! All the beautiful visuals, nice voice work and a good music score from John Debney wasted on desperate and unfunny humor, a story that recycles some of the previous movies, and characters that were once tolerable in the previous movies now grating especially the new characters that served no purpose AT ALL!
I actually really like Ice Age 2 and I think the third one was just okay in my opinion. Any Ice Age film after 3 though does not exist to me!!! I do respect your opinion though as always. So the SpongeBob Movie is next. One of my favourite childhood films!
Wow animat this is the second time you've reviewed a winter themed movie a big coincidence if you think about it.I also enjoyed this review by the way!
Why didn't Fast Tony ever come back? I liked his voice and he had funny lines. Plus, he's an armadillo. They're awesome. Not as much as pangolins, but still awesome.
One of my biggest flaws with the Ice Age sequels is the lack of David Newman’s themes, which is one of the reasons they failed to live up to the original 2002 film.
It always bothered me how the Sequels basically have 0 Thematic cohesion when it comes to the music, and they didn't really bring back any of David Newman's music from the 1st film, yet they brought back the Music from the 2nd film for the later sequels. That always bugged me that the 1st film's score was never referenced or brought back again. Don't get me wrong, I really like John Powell's music, but David Newman's score feels a whole lot more like an Ice Age movie imo.
Nah! The sequel made the right choice in bringing in John Powell. Just listening to his score “Return of the Mammoths” is proof enough. You’re just too nostalgic for the first film.
@@hunterolaughlin No, *I’m not.* I’m not saying John Powell’s score is bad. In fact, I actually LOVE his scores that he did for Ice Age 2-4. It’s just that I’m not a fan of when studios or filmmakers replace composers for sequels to one of their original movies; There’s no proper thematic continuity, unless if count the reprisal of Newman’s baby theme at the end of Collision Course.
No hating on the 2nd film, it's amazing and my FAVORITE Ice Age, the 1st movie is a classic, the 3rd movie is beautifully good, the 4th film is meh, but the 5th one not so good
I actually kinda like this sequel. The story is a little better, when they're setting up that Manny may be the very last mammut. And I like how this new character Ellie is a very smart girl and her little story where she believes she's an opossum is interesting. And she is a great female addition to the team. And I like how Scrat actually come to some use for the story in the end and wasn't just a masqot. And the animation is a little better, you can almost feel the beautiful sunlight here. And the music score here is a BIG improvement since the first movie! ( I mean it's John Powell! ) The first have only a few memorable scores, while in this movie pretty much all the scores are memorable. And I also like how the interaction between the characters feels a little bit nicer this time, which makes sense since they know each other better now. So overall I think this is a pretty entertaining sequel! Perhaps even better than the first one! :)
He definitely forgot to mention Cretaceous and Maelstrom the Villains from this film since I considered them my favorite characters from the film series

Ice Age 1: Manny, Sid, and Diego send a baby home. Ice Age 2: The Meltdown: The ice is melting and the herd tries to escape. Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: An underground world of dinosaurs is revealed by Scrat, and some of the herd gets trapped and have to escape with the help of a new friend. Ice Age 4: Continental Drift: Ice Age 2, but with Pirates. Ice Age 5: Collision Course: An asteroid is sent to Earth because of Scrat's acorn. Ice Age 6: Passion of the Scrat: The herd takes revenge on Scrat because of the last film. Ice Age 7: The Living Acorn: Because of Scratlantis magic the Acorn becomes alive, and becomes a ruthless dictator.
The most requested movie of all time for AniMat's Classic Reviews is "The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie". We all know it is that one. Damnit! I wanted him to do "Hoodwinked!". But I'm glad that the most requested movie for this section of the channel is at least a good movie. Not to mention, it's very fitting to review it in 2019, considering that this year was the show's 20th anniversary.
@@shady9044 Haven't seen "Hoodwinked!", so I can't tell you if it's good or bad. Although it does look awful, I like the concept and there may be a reason why it's so praised. I was just happy to see that Mat wouldn't have to review a bad movie in general for his 100k Classic Review special. Maybe I should have cleared that (and even then, I don't know if I have cleared it here).
It s really bumming that this movie was working with two plotlines at once. It struggled between the main cast trying to escape the meltdown event and Manny having a love interest in Ellie, and because of that, this movie's story felt disjointed and unfocused on what it was trying to be.
#8:00 realistically, Fast Tony didn’t make an appearance in any future installments due to his character simply not fitting in the story, not to mention his va, Jay Leno not being able to reprise the role due to scheduling conflicts
You didn’t mention the two sea monsters as the main villains at all... almost like they weren’t characters at all... they were still the best part of the movie for me
This is the only Ice Age sequel I own on DVD and I don't have any regrets about having it. This is a good movie and is one of only three Blue Sky movies I actually like. (The others are Ice Age 1 and The Peanuts Movie)
I don't mind the first 3 Ice Age films. Seeing that the last 2 got the worst reception, I say it should've stayed as a trilogy. I mean when you see the end of the 3rd one, it gave the impression that it was gonna end on a high note.
Here is the thing with this movie. The story is definitely meh but I like this movie around as much as the first movie because of really good animation and characters are for the most part really likable. But the main reason I really like this movie is because A: Scrat and how BlueSky made him a bit more important but not too major to make him the star on top of lots of scenes with him. And B: this movie has some of my favorite scenes in the series. I mean the piranha and heaven Scrat scenes are the best two scenes in the series
I can't wait for the review on The Spongebob Movie next month! ( I actually voted for that movie) Personally, my favorite ice age films from best to worst are: 1. *Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaur* Consensus: This movie was one of my childhood favorites so it does have a little bit of an unfair advantage. I love almost everything about this movie. The animation is fantastic, the dynamic between Scrat and Scratette is hilarious, the scene where the characters inhale helium is my favorite scene in the movie, and Buck is one of if not the best characters in the Ice age franchise. Even if the quality of the humor and story can sometimes be a little bit of a mixed bag and the fact that it may not be everybody's favorite installment, I still love this movie and I will definitely consider it my favorite. 2. *Ice Age* Consensus: It's the one that started it all and it started the franchise off well. It has almost all the things I like about Ice Age: DOFD, but what is keeping it back is that the animation has that early 2000's kind of cheapness and a little bit of the story can be predictable. But with the other stuff like the characters, humor, and the rest of the story, it is all great. 3. *Ice Age: Continental Drift* Consensus: To me, this movie was just okay. The story was a little predictable, it contains too many characters in which some we do not care about, the humor was average, some elements from the movie were either done before or just plain stupid and it clearly shows that it was during the production of this installment where the people at Blue Sky started to get bored of these Ice Age movies and just came with random ideas( hence all the issues I stated before). Luckily, the animation was creative and nice-looking, Scrat was funny, some of the characters were good, and certain ideas did have great execution. 4. *Ice Age: The Meltdown* Consensus: I only saw this movie once and from what I saw, almost everything about this movie except for the animation and maybe the humor was really boring. 5. *Ice Age: Collision Course* Consensus: THIS MOVIE SUCKS! The story was awful, the jokes were bad, The animation was unoriginal and weird(especially by Ice Age standards), all the characters are either bland, annoying, or pointless, the ideas that this movie has came straight from Blue Sky's butt, and the movie was so bad, it even ruined Buck! I wish this movie never existed!
speaking of Scrat's nutty Adventure, I Saw a trailer of it on RU-vid, I mean, Ice age was a hit back in the day, but 2016 was the last year we heard about ICE AGE as the fifth film Ice age:collision course was a massive critical failure! but then 3 years later, They decided to put ice age back in The video game industry with ICE AGE: scrat's nutty adventure! released for PS4 Xboxone, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 18th 2019! and I was excited that ICE AGE is back after all these years. I've even finished the game during the same day!
I actually watched this sequel a lot more than the first movie, meaning that I enjoyed 2 more than 1 as a kid. But then again, comparing thoughts on the same movie as a critic and as a small child can be very different, since the former pay attention to every single detail and weigh all pros and cons, while the latter just enjoy the movie and don't mind anything at all.
It's ironic for the story, animation and characters were given the same score as Smurfs The Lost Village, but that got a 5/10 while this got a 6/10, anyone sees something off
@@cintronproductions9430 because, ice age has not been on the video game industry in a long time, so 3 years later, they put it back in The video game world with ICE AGE: scrat's nutty adventure.
I thought this movie deserved a 7/10. I was just glad to see a review where you don't know for sure what the final score is gonna be for once. Also the SpongeBob movie is next yes!
8:00 "You know an Ice Age character is bad when they don't get a chance to appear in any other sequels afterwards." Then would you care to expalin why the fridge we have CRASH AND EDDIE in every single follow-up to this?!! On the other hand, this case certainly does pertain to Buck the weasel-so much so that I heard that he got his own spinoff series on Disney+. I'm not so sure we need it, but hey, I'll take that over another sequel movie any day, because I think Buck is the only character in this franchise who can hold his own at this point.
Yeah, I do not like Crash and Eddie either. They're easily the most annoying characters in the whole franchise. As for the question "are you ready, kids?", here's my answer: "AYE-AYE, CAPTAIN!" Looks like we're going back to Bikini Bottom, guys! The Spongebob SquarePants Movie is next!
Rating the ice age movies Ice age: Great 8/10 Ice age 2: Still great 7/10 Ice age 3: not as good but still pretty good 5/10 Ice age 4: I actually really like this one, not as good as the first two but better than the third and fifth 7/10 Ice age 5: Extremely mediocre 3/10
