I tried that spot again this year on a January full moon night but didn’t have much luck. I’m heading out there with a friend or two tomorrow but we’ll be targeting catfish since the walleye season is closed in MN now.
@@safarigoo We spent the afternoon out there last week, not much luck other than a few little pike. Next full moon I’ll have to go spend the night out there. I usually do better after dark. It’s kind of a hit or miss lake too but there’s the potential to catch some big fish there.
You got me hooked into kayak fishing I am in no way getting into ice fishing. I would be cooking hot dogs and slamming beers all day. Awesome video tho once again.
What a great opening sequence. A hallmark of your videos is that you make fishing look amazingly easy. You aren't trying to fool us, but I suspect few of your viewers appreciate how much experience and thought you've given your sport to get such handsome results.
So do I ! There is just one place in France where you can fish like that, and not every year... There are so much people that the ice looks like a Swiss cheese ! Cheers from France 🇫🇷
Absolutely love the video. Thanks so much for sharing. Used to live in New York, live in Florida now. Miss ice fishing for walleyes something fierce. Again, thanks for sharing.
I just want to echo what some of your fans have already said. Night or day, warm or cold, you still have the best attitude I have ever seen/heard from a fishing man. No, you never disappoint. Ice-fishing sure has an appeal to me now!
thank you, great video with fine looking fish and very skilled fisherman that delivers with no nonsense, no opportunity here in Australia to ice fish, but i thoroughly enjoy your videos
That is a great way to ice fish - - compact but sophisticated and comfy - and at night to boot! Awesome fish coming out of such small holes. Heater a-blazing doesn't affect the ice (we used to do some serious campfires on 2-3 ft of ice no probs). Great video!
Love the vid :) I swear it is of a trip of mine, same gear even! No bullshit, and no phony filler footage, just good hooksets and releases :) One thing, please dont take offense...the gill rakers are super sensitive , I noticed a couple times the fish had them thumbed accidentally. I use a liplocker, and at worst they get is a broken tooth :) Keep 'em coming...subscribed! :) Goota get me a couple of the wonderbread Northlands, first I have seen of them here/
Being from Wisconsin, I am all about fishing local and enjoying what you have in your own yard, but in case you would like to know, the walleye run on Lake Erie off Ohio North of Port Clinton in late spring early summer produce wallys 23”-32”. We get them almost every other cast most years. The meat tastes even better than the walleyes on the inland lakes. Worth the experience at least...I recommend a guide for sure though!
First off, that first shot with the sled going over the camera was ballsy! I would have been so nervous I would knock the camera over! Secondly, I’m just excited to see OU do some ice fishing. I hate having to go all winter without seeing your videos.
Love the sled set up. Maybe you show in a little more detail next time. Great video, it’s the first time in a while you didn’t b read out the whopper plopped. Lol hopefully you get out and do some more ice fishing. Be safe out there.
Thanks Chris! I’m planning on doing a video on the sled setup one of these days since most Smitty sleds I’ve seen just have a couple 2x4s bolted between the sled and skis. I figured I’d wait until we actually had some snow on the ice which there should be plenty of now.
Great video. LOVE your sled. Made my own but how you made yours looks waaay lighter. Lighter means easier to pull across the ice for us old guys. Looking forward to the Smitty sled build video. Keep up the good video👍. Be safe out there respect the ice.
Definitely different seeing you ice fishing instead of crushing all those nice smallies in the river good cool video though and glad to see you are still out catching fish!
I was born in Minnesota but my mother moved before I even had any memories there but I definitely need to take a trip there and do some fishing. For some reason I had no idea that Minnesota was such a great place to fish
That was freaking awesome. Would definitely enjoy more ice fishing videos to keep us entertained until spring! You live in a part of the country with some of the best ice fishing. Happy new year!
Fantastic video. I've never ice fished a day in my life very cool to see how it's done! Wonder if one day you could talk about your battery setup for your cameras (swapping batteries or a battery pack?) And show your rod holder in more detail in the bed of the truck! Great work!
Thanks! I had to take the rod holder out of my truck bed to make room for the ice gear but when spring comes I’ll pop rivet it back in. I’ll try to remember to throw on the hat cam and do a quick video. With the hat cam I was using here I just bring a half dozen spare batteries. It’s tough keeping them from freezing up and working for more than five minutes when it’s below freezing outside but once I get the ice shack popped up I’ll stick the cell phone dry box I keep my spare batteries in up in one of the cargo nets in the ceiling of the shack to keep them nice and warm.
Greetings from Brisbane Australia 👍 That was very cool to watch! It was a balmy 21 degrees Celsius here last night (70 degrees Fahrenheit) so we aren't doing much ice fishing here. Mind you, even in Winter the only ice we see is in our drinks 🥃 I look forward to seeing more of your winter adventures. If you need a fix of warmth I'll try and post an Aussie Bass video soon for you 😎
Dont feel to bad man I have been waiting for safe ice on the Mississippi and now its 45° for the next 3 days so I doubt I'll be pulling any eyes through the ice this season :-( but there is always the spring bite.
Now THAT'S a cool intro shot! Right over top of the video camera. Great fishin' video there, my friend! You know, you're the Pecos Hank of fishin'videos. Like Ol' Pecos Hank, you don't do a whole lot of yelling and screaming, when you're fishin'. Pecos Hank, by the way, is a Tornado Chaser out of, I believe, Houston, Texas. He's like you-a really chill dude. If you get the chance, you oughta check out some of his videos. It's great stuff! Have a good day, and keep on catchin' them there fish! Tight lines to ya!
If I’m hand augering it those blades better be sharp lol. I always bring the auger into the ice shack and set it in front of the heater for a half hour or so once I’m set up then wipe it down once it’s thawed out so the blades don’t get rusty.
