Melissa and I go to Lake of the Woods to Border View Lodge for ice fishing. 3 nights at a cabin and 2 days out 20 miles on the lake, ice fishing for Walleye. Great time!
Joe that was awesome to hear how much it cost because my wife and I have been wanting to go out of iowa and go somewhere to go ice fishing but never no where to go exactly!! Now we have an idea of what we need to save up to to be able to go sometime hopefully!!! Probably won’t be this year because I have a surgery the end of the month but hopefully if everything goes good maybe next year we will be able to go hopefully!!!!
Rates were very reasonable. For 2 of you it would cost you a little under 1,200.00 and that's 3 nights in a nice cozy cabin and 2 days in a fish house that is on the fish. All meals included at that price and the food is good. Your bait is included and for no extra charge, if you do not want to drive out, they provide transportation to and from your "assigned for that day" fish house. They are VERY organized and very friendly. 10/10.
Thanks for taking me with youns, I really enjoyed watching Melissa catch fish. Man that walleye was big. Thanks for sharing this trip,it warms my heart.God bless.
Wow Joe! I didn't know people did this kind of thing and that there would be a lake big enough to DRIVE OUT ON FOR 21 MILES. Yikers ... sounds scary like, especially with you describing cracking sounds and the lake 37 FEET DEEEP? yikers. Nice that you and Melissa got to do this and that you both had fun. She is quite the fisherperson, yes? so blessings on you both then!
@@sandrasherritt9708 No, but it was just a joke. There are smaller lakes that do freeze completely that are huge too though. The great lakes are near ocean sized lakes.
I truly enjoyed this video. What an experience. Being Southern I can’t imagine driving 20 miles on ice. I would have been nervous the whole time. And you even caught (well Melissa did) a bunch of fish. 😊
Fabulous video. So nice to see Melissa. Lake Erie used to be covered in ice like that in the 60's. Had a blast then. Used to do wheelies with my boyfriend in hiS GTO.
Melissa leaves for Louisiana this Friday and will be gone 2 weeks. I will do the winter (early spring) trip after she gets back. It will be about a week later than last year.
It freaks this Virginia/Florida girl out driving on ice. Good job, Melissa! Joe, you are so sweet. I saw those chocolates. Hope y'all's Valentine's trip was awesome!!! Thanks for sharing.
Nice fishing Melissa . Joe and what did you catch or did Melissa out do you ? 😮😀How thick was the ice ? So nice seeing you with your loved one. Stay warm. Take care. 👍👍👍
She out fished me but I did catch quite a few fish. Me being the camera person it is easier filming her than me. She did kick my butt though. Lol. The ice 22 miles out was 26 inches thick.
Left my house at 2am to go plow my commercial accounts and randomly thought … I hope Joe puts up a Video of the ice fishing trip tonight lol. Looks like it was a great trip ! Take care Joe
First: I want to say, no way in hell would I go out 20 miles on a frozen lake, yes I know the ice has to be a certain thickness. Second: Melissa way to go fisherwoman also looking good, you should show your pretty face more often. Blessings to you both.😊🇺🇲
You experienced an Ice Quake. Didn't sound like yours was too big, but they do get very unnerving. During them, your physical location does change. One year on Milacs, a Icequake moved us about 12 feet. We only know this because the depth we were fishing changed.
Awesome fishing 🦦 trip Thank you for sharing this with us ❤️the Valentine's gift was nice. Happy Valentine's Day to you too ❤️. Melissa you looked great just awesome to see you too having fun and together . Stay safe and warm 💕.
Thanks for giving a run down of the price. It looked like a lot of fun and really well organized. I moticed her cell phone tethered to her leg...lol. It's a great idea!
You are missing out on some great times. That being said, it was 26 below this morning so I guess with your warm weather I was missing out as well. Lol.
That depends on the ice. Up there the Walleye season does not end until April 14th, the rest of the states inland waters ends it February 28th. Typically the houses will get removed towards the middle to end of March.
Hello Joe and Melissa what a great adventure video Melissa was hooking the fish 🐠 YESS great job. I think this video is in my top 5 . Thanks so much for sharing Blessings Always 🙏💕
Great video Joe and looks like you guys had a great time. Hearing that ice crack would put me in a panic!! Of course, you guys are probably use to that, down here in WV, especially the central/southern portion we don't get cold enough to freeze the lakes we have so we can ice fish. Well, not anymore, I remember back in the early 80's fishing a very large creek that was frozen for trout. Didn't have an auger to drill through the ice, we used a hammer and an old steel or lead window weight to bust a hole so we could fish. I guess that is the closest I have come to any ice fishing. LOL Again, thanks for sharing and good to see Melissa in the video. Juddie - J & J TOA
nice fish Melissa. but as a commenter said below I don't care if the ice is 40 feet thick I just can't walk or drive on a frozen lake. it just scares the bee gee bees out of me. glad you and Melissa had fun. Joe. stay safe.
My grandpa Bob's brother Tom N. lived with his wife, Alice in Baudette, for years. Don't know how big of a town it is. All I know is it was a Walleye Anglers paradise for decades, all 4 seasons.
Joe and Melissa; thank you for taking us along on your fishing adventure. Joe, you are the man for treating Melissa so well. If my wife were still alive, she would gladly go on this adventure. Lelissa, thank you for joining us on this outing and being on video. I enjoy watching a husband wife team enjoying yourselves. Cheryl and I would keep the fish coming as long as we could.
Thank you John, what a great comment. It is sad that your Cheryl is not here to go on another adventure with you but the way you talk about her it sounds like you had many good times together. Melissa and I had a great time and Border View Lodge was really organized and that made it a great experience. Thank you again.
Aaahh, Melissa out fishes Joe!! Nice size Perch Joe.. What a great guy, makes tea, coffee, cooks he's a keeper Melissa!! Was that a picture of the Outhouse or inside the Fish house(the toilet)?? Looked like fun was had by the both of you. Now back home and chores and work.. Stay safe my friends.👍🤓👍🤓Randy.
Your fishing hut is a far cry from the places that we rented over 40 years ago when I first went ice fishing with my buddies out on Lake Erie. All plywood and just a small Coleman white naptha heater....
I remember going with my Dad and the fish house had a kerosene heater that had a chimney. It was like a little drip heater. I can still remember how it sounded and the smell of the inside of the fish house.
Great fishing trip you and Melissa went on. Got some nice fish too. Thanks for sharing with us, I'll watch it from here though. I have a phobia from going through the ice when I was younger and it has stayed with me all these years so call me a chicken but no ice fishing for me. Stay safe and keep up the great videos and having the super fun you two share with everyone. Fred.
Thank you Joe for bringing us along. This has nothing to do with Fishing but when you were saying you were at Alex’s family restaurant, all I could think of was one of my favorite old songs Alice’s restaurant.(Arlo Guthrie). Were you able to keep that big fish that Melissa caught? I had to do a search on the size of lake in the woods, I’ve never even considered a lake that is so large’s like a 21 mile drive to get where you’re going and you still could’ve gone further. It’s just amazing to me. I need to get out more, see the country… Thank you. p.s. the fairy lights on the rose brought a smile.
Thank you That fish had to go back for someone else to catch another day. It was too big to be a good eater anyway but a very beautiful fish. I thought about that song when we pulled up to the restaurant also. Lol.
Can't believe how much ice I remember in kebek years ago speed skating competition's so cold and all the fisherman an woman ice fishing brings back great memories thanks u Jo an Melissa for sharing your friend glenn from Massachusetts 💕
After all these years watching both channels and loving all the videos I can now say I have finally gotten to put a face to Melissa’s voice …… very nice to weirdly meet you …. Lol !! Great to see you both having fun and living life !! Hope you had a wonderful time!
was watching some videos of people out fishing at the lake of the woods about a month ago .didnt think you would be going there to .thanks for sharing your fishing trip.
I couldn't imagine driving on a lake. I find it fascinating! Maybe why I binged watched several seasons of "Ice Road Truckers". It looked like you had a GREAT time!!
So you and Melissa were doing the "Ice Road Trucker" thing for at least 21 miles both ways and managed to catch a few fish and relax, it looked very nice. It was also good to see you two spending some time together everything looked really pleasant.
This is the coldest walk that southern girl has ever made...that had me rofl. That trip looked like so much fun. You both work so hard, it's good you're getting some relaxing together time. Thanks for sharing this adventure.
Joe, my ancestors came from Norway to Elk Lake Twsp, MN. All first generation ancestors are buried in or near Barrett, MN. Is this near your fishing lake in the video?
Barrett MN is about 4 and a half hours south and west of where we went fishing. It is close to the South Dakota border on the west side of the state. I have duck and goose hunted over in that general area several times.
