Ice fishing rod vs halibut
Just having some fun out of Homer, fishing for Halibut. I am using a custom 3 rivers fly and tackle ice fishing rod to catch halibut!! They did not intend it to be used this way, but it is a heck of a lot of fun!

Awesome those rods are great I caught 2 kings on the one you made me a few years back. It wears out the wrist though huh

I didn't have any wrist fatigue using the ice rod, but I had a lot using a trout rod. The added leverage and lack of back bone seem to be the culprits. The Ice fishing rod is working out great for Halibut, the weak spot for me is the reel and its line capacity. That and I have already killed one reel this season doing this.

😂 ya I bet it’s a fun fight. Have you hooked any Ling I want to take mine out to Seward and try for a keeper ling once it opens. Mine doesn’t have much of a fighting butt on it so my forearms burn like crazy 😂

@@hookedonalaska7004 So, far I have not caught a keeper size ling on it, though I have caught plenty of smalls and black rockfish.
